Neither do the Celtics

Juan 05-30-2008 04:45 PM

Ok.

SammyG 05-30-2008 08:24 PM

Let's go Pistons!!

IC Champion 05-30-2008 08:33 PM

I just want it to be over, the games have been so brutal at times to watch.

McLegend 05-30-2008 08:36 PM

Cause they blow the damn whistle at everything. Game 5 took over 3 fuckin hours.

That should not happen.

McLegend 05-30-2008 10:23 PM

Yeah remember when I said Sam Cassel should play in this series?

I was wrong. He should stay as far away from the court as possible.

IC Champion 05-30-2008 11:12 PM

This series can't end soon enough, it's been so fucking brutal to watch at times.

Splaya 05-30-2008 11:20 PM

Great series, Boston deserves to go to the NBA Finals because they wanted it more.

Detroit played horrible in the 4th quarter. Joe D has to get rid of Rasheed. Rasheed for sure though. I'm sick of him complaining, taking costly fouls, getting costly technicals. Also, I will not be surprised if Saunders is fired.

weather vane 05-30-2008 11:21 PM

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

best nba finals ever

mrslackalack 05-30-2008 11:51 PM

Splaya made some great points. There is a lot of rumors that Flip will be fired and that players are fed up with Sheed and want him out of Det.

alvarado52 05-31-2008 12:06 AM

Celts v. Lakers in the finals....Couldnt be scripted any better. Gonna be a good series.

Just take it from someone who lives in Metro Detroit and has to watch this for 100 games.

You guys, if you're lucky, only have to endure this for close to 20.

Ninti the Mad 05-31-2008 12:35 AM

Guess the NBA got their 'marquee' matchup.

Seems kinda scripted to me.

they're like 2-9 on the road or something in the playoffs ( when it counts ). Thats really pathetic for a #1 overall seeded team in the playoffs. Even more pathetic that they were playing East talent. So i wouldnt be tooting your horn so fast.

Who the hell is gunna guard Lamar Odom in this series. I mean, if Odom has his way like he should, the Lakers should win this in 5. I think the Lakers have beaten 2 teams that are better then the Celtics imo, Spurs and Utah.

The Celtics have a major IT factor. When they've had to absolutley win a game, they've done it. Lakers havent " absolutley had to win a game " at all this year in the playoffs. Everytime i've thought the Celts wont win, or shouldnt win, or cant win, they win. They've dug deep and gotten it done. Thats a major factor for championship caliber squads imo.

But Kobe > everyone at this point. I'm not taking anyone over Kobe this time. I'm thinking Lakers in 6.

for the most part no argument there.

I'm picking the Celtics in 7, but I'm not betting on it.

I think Lakers in 6 would be reasonable.

Pierce is going to probably be on Kobe all day, so that does leave Odom, no I'm not sure who they will put on him, my guess is 2-3 people rotatiing.

That being said, they are the best team in the East, they won in Dertoit twice which is a very difficult place to play, What means more? winning in Atlanta in round 1, or winning in Detroit 2x in the ECF? they did beat the Lakers twice in the regular season.

I don't agree the Spurs or Jazz are better then the Celtics, I'd say the Lakers are a better team right now, but in 7 games who knows...

most of all, I'm just happy I wont have to listen to "mason" and the worst introductions in the league and of course no stupid steam whistle either!

mrslackalack 05-31-2008 11:07 AM

I think the Lakers will win the series if they take Game 1 or 2 in Boston. I think the Lakers will AT LEAST 2 of their 3 home games in LA. I see either team taking it in 6 or 7. Phil Jackson is trying to break his tie with Red in titles. Ironically hes trying to do it against Reds team.

Jura 05-31-2008 11:46 AM

I'm gonna root for Boston because I like the underdogs.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-31-2008 02:45 PM

Odom is a huge match up problem for the Celtics but the C's present some match problems for the Lakers as well. Pau Gasol is soft as babyshit, I think KG and Perk will be able to dominate him on the block, especially on the glass. Its gonna be real interesting, the way it should be - the two best teams in the NBA facing off for the championship

SammyG 05-31-2008 03:08 PM

What an amazing NBA Finals. God, so different from last year's bullshit with the Cavs and the Spurs. This really is a dream matchup, it's amazing for the fans and the NBA. Celtics scare me, I admit it. Perkins on Gasol terrifies me, and I really don't know how we are gonna guard them. Rondo-Fisher, Allen-Kobe, Pierce-Radmanovic (and Kobe)- Garnett-Odom, and Perkins-Gasol I guess... Radmanovic's length might bother Allen, maybe, I don't know, maybe we can put Kobe on Pierce the whole time. This is going to be so good. If we can steal one of the first two in Boston, we can definitely win all 3 on our homecourt....

Prediction wise... I'm gonna go with the Lake show in 6.

Lakers in 5

SammyG 05-31-2008 03:18 PM

Guys if we win it all.. Oh my god.

I made a prediction like 3 months ago or some shit, or maybe even further back, saying the Lakers would win it all. I'd much rather face the Pistons though. It's all good, this is the best matchup any NBA fan could hope for. I hope all the old Celtics and Lakerrs are at the games.

VonErichLives 05-31-2008 05:22 PM

if the Celtics drop one in Boston they could be screwed because don't forget this is 2-3-2 not 2-2-1-1-1.

as for the intro, I like it because it's not over the top, however the sparkler display you can feel the heat and you'll see spots for a min.

The old intro had a bunch of classic celtics stuff, "Havlicheck stole the ball" and "There's a steal by bird".

I almost 1/2 expect them to work the McHale clothesline of Rambis into the intros for the finals.

I just think Detroit and "mason" are way over the top and annoy the crap out of me.

The first team I remember doing the lights out music and everything was the bulls back in the day.

Heck, the Celtics waited till Aurbach was dead to bring in full-time cheerleaders "Celtics Dancers".

IC Champion 05-31-2008 05:40 PM

LOL at VEl saying the Celtics are better than the Spurs. I guess he didn't realize that Boston played scrubs all year like Philly, Toronto, Orlando, Washington, Atlanta, Charlotte etc.

While the west is arguably the toughest conferernce in all of sports, and possibly ever in basketball.

Celtics have gotten it done when it matters, but they've also lost games they had no business losing. Lakers have beatin 3 good teams to get to where they are, and had their way with all three teams more or less.

Not only are the Lakers better, but they haven't played 2 seven game series and than a 6 game one, so the Lakers will be the better rested team.

I just don't see how Boston can stop Kobe, and if they double team, Odom, Gasol, Fisher, will burn them all night. And even if they do play him man up, like RP said, who guards Odom? Perkins isn't quick enough, PJ Brown is to old, Garnett will have to play Gasol. Odom should be able to have his way in this series.

It's good to see Lakers/Celtics and it will be even better to see Lakers take it in 6.

Also, the 2, 3 , 2 format is retarded.

no question the west was tougher then the east this year, and the Celtics beat the Spurs twice, we really don't have much else to use as a judge, so yes the Celtics would have beat the spurs. The Lakers match-up is more "fun" but the Spurs would have been much better for the Celtics.

it should be a good series, I don't see the Lakers taking 6 or 7 in Boston, so if it goes past 5, I like Bostons odds.

oh, the reason they claim they do 2, 3, 2 is due to traveling from coast to coast. I prefere 2-2-1-1-1 myself.

SammyG 05-31-2008 06:49 PM

2-3-2 definitely favors the road team. Lakers got screwed by it in 2004 against Detroit.

Lakers are the best team in the NBA, most wins or not. I'm putting 100 dollars on this series, and I'm not worried on bit that Boston will win.

They had trouble beating LeBron, Kobe who in my opinion is better than LeBron has guys like Odom, Gasol, and Fisher who can all score and makes plays. Cavs didnt have anyone but LeBron.

Garnett, Allen and Pierce need to show up for everygame or it won't even be close.

Celtics had a much easier road than the Lakers to the finals, yet had the tougher time to get there, which is why I've had the Lakers to win since day one, and why I still have them.

aren't the lakers like -165 on the money line for the series meaning you'd have to bet 165 to win 100, so betting 100 wins you like 60 bucks... which seems silly to bet to win less then you're betting...

the thing is, Kobe is a better player then James, but James is so much more physical, I think Pierce will be less tired gaurding Kobe then he was on James.

but we shall see...... I haven't been wrong yet with the Celtics... feel the least confident in this one then I did the others.

Celtics in 7.

but Lakers in 5 wouldn't shock me.

and no, maybe I'll do some over/under stuff but I'm not betting on these games.

early line for game 1 is Boston - 2.5

IC Champion 05-31-2008 09:43 PM

I have a bet with a friend, not Pro-Line.

I think Boston will make it tough, because of how badly guys like Garnett and Pierce want it, but nobody wants it more than Kobe. This is Kobe back in the finals for the first time without Shaq. He's gonna be the difference and why the Lakers will win. Lakers also have a deeper bench, and more talented bench.

I'll give you the Spurs, but Celtics arent better then the Jazz. I thought the Jazz had a fantastic team this year. Just ran into a better team, which wasnt hard, because the only 2 teams i thought were better then the Jazz this year, all things considered ( not just records ), were the Lakers and Hornets.

therocksays 06-01-2008 01:45 PM

i called it didn't i Sammy? CELTICS LAKERS FINALS!

MCEazy 06-01-2008 02:05 PM

I'm taking my lakers in 6 for a few reasons: 1. No one can guard kobe. 2. Hall Of Fame Coach. 3. Best bench in the league.

When it comes down to it, LA beating Utah in 6 and SA in 5 > Boston beating ATL in 7 and CLE in 7

SammyG 06-01-2008 03:53 PM

Shit son, Mad jealous. I really think that if the Lakers steal one of the two games in Boston, this series is over.

Also, every single one of BSPN's "experts" have the Lakers picked, with Legler being the only exception. This is gonna be good. I don't see why the Lakers are such "favorites" here. This is two powerhouses going head to head.

alvarado52 06-01-2008 04:10 PM

I wouldnt say either are favorites. My honest opinion is they are equally matched. When there is one obviously pro to the others con, thats matched vice versa. Regardless, this will be a Finals to watch for sure...and thank god, i miss watching basketball in June...havent done it for the past 3 years or so.

VonErichLives 06-01-2008 04:32 PM

ok, I don't undertsand "TV" and all, but can someone explain to me...

Why the fuck every game starts at 9pm ET and there are no Friday or Saturday games?

WTF... I remember the 1980's, we had afternoon games on the weekend.

I know, 9pm East is 6pm on the west... but damn... just seems like they're going to to lose a chunk of the audince going that late, also how many parents will let their kids stay up till midnight on a school/camp night...?

dunno, just doesn't make sense.

IC Champion 06-01-2008 04:42 PM

Makes perfect sense. You cant have a weekday game at 6ET in the Finals, it would only be 3pm in the West. Plus 9pm primetime, when they will get the most viewers.

I understand that part although they'd could have done 8pm and gotten the same viewers.

that aside, what confuses me is no friday or saturday games and sunday being 9pm.

that was the part that makes no sense.

IC Champion 06-01-2008 09:44 PM

Who wants to watch basketball in the first weekend in June? People are out on Friday and Saturdays. Those days are never big draws for TV ratings anyways.

SammyG 06-01-2008 09:57 PM

These finals need to fucking start tommorrow. Why wait a week, come on. It's killing me.

mrslackalack 06-01-2008 10:32 PM

I think for Boston to win they have to

1. win at home

2. have large margin of victories. I believe in close games that Phil Jackson would outcoach Doc easily.

mrslackalack 06-01-2008 10:40 PM

I agree Sammy G we have to wait till Thurs. It also will last TWO WEEKS if it goes 7 games because of some 3 day periods in between games.

RGWhat316 06-03-2008 02:00 PM

Can't say I'm too surprised, but Flip Saunders got fired as the Pistons coach. I kinda saw this coming since Pistons went to the finals in 04 and 05. But when Flip came in 06, they haven't been back since. I didn't mind him as a coach, but when a team is at the top and he couldn't keep them there, something is wrong.

ClockShot 06-03-2008 02:25 PM

Flip Saunders is to the NBA as Marty Schottenheimer is to the NFL. They can kick some serious ass in the regular season, but somehow seem to fail during the playoffs.

Flip only had a year left. Maybe if Dumars went and found a big name, Detroit could go back to the finals.

Jura 06-03-2008 02:51 PM

Coaches getting fired left and right. Does Phoenix and Dallas still need a coach? I think Chicago is hiring Collins or already did. I haven't heard anything lately.

Detriot suffers from lack of motivation, and their one big man doesn't show up half the time. Saunders shouldn't have been fired. He'll go somewhere else and win I'm sure.

Jackson wants this one bad, and he wants it in Boston so he can light a cigar in the Garden like Red used to.

He and Red never liked each other, Red made some comments a few years back how Jackson doesn't stick with a team when they get bad and try and rebuild, how he was just picking and choosing a team that would win and make more money, where Red turned down a lot of money from the Knicks to stay with Boston.

Also in fairness the "player coach" championships were as much Red as they were Rusell or Heinson.

IC Champion 06-03-2008 07:48 PM

This will be Phil's 10th ring as a Coach. Which is one more than Red. I like Phil Jackson myself.

There are rumors of D-wade going to Chicago for the no. 1 draft pick and some other players. So D-Wade plus Beasley or Rose unless the Heat can get both draft picks and have Rose and Beasley on the same team. That'd be interested if any of it is true. Also the finals are starting tomorrow!

Utah & San Antonio), they just have to be able to contain KG and pierce which is no easy task mind you, but if Pau can actually be aggressive, Odom and fisher consistent and Kobe simply being kobe, i think we can take this one.

Heads will roll if they show an old Dr. J embracing Larry Bird or some other Celtic courtside.

RP 06-05-2008 08:40 PM

If Bird shows up, I hope he brought Jamaal Tinsley with him and leaves him.

VonErichLives 06-05-2008 08:41 PM

I don't expect Larry there since he works for another team, but expect a lot of the old Celtics there, heck even Kareem is here, promoting his book also, a friend of mine is a manager at a mall and Kareem wants to do a book signing so he got assigned to "escort" him around... how the fuck does a 5'10 guy escort a 7footer anywhere? :)

SammyG 06-05-2008 08:43 PM

Fuckkkkk, so nervous/excited. This is huge.

RP 06-05-2008 08:56 PM

lol worst national anthem ever.

RP 06-05-2008 08:56 PM

WHY THE FUCK ARE THE CELTICS TURNING THE LIGHTS OUT AND PLAYING MUSIC FOR THE LAKERS? WTF LOL

WOWWWWWWWW

RP 06-05-2008 08:57 PM

I cant believe Boston is letting the Lakers get this introduction. OMG

RP 06-05-2008 08:59 PM

LOL They put Brian Scalabrini's name on Tony Allen. Fantastic.

RP 06-05-2008 09:00 PM

LOL THEY didnt even show Scalabrini or announce him

RP 06-05-2008 09:01 PM

This feels like a wrestling ppv. I hope Kobe score 90.

Kareem was always a bitch.

RP 06-05-2008 09:04 PM

I'm really pumped for this. The only thing that would be better is if KG dunked on someone and then screamed and flexxed and then got speared by Bob Sanders at mid court.

Juan 06-05-2008 09:39 PM

I hate ABC

How did Pau Gasol help turn the Lakers around in the regular season, when we were already the best team in the west?!?

Juan 06-05-2008 09:40 PM

I mean, I'll admit that he helped, but it's not like we were in last place before we got him.

RP 06-05-2008 09:40 PM

KOBEEEEE
