You know who's a big fat jobber? CM Punk
Czech it. Remember when Punk and Jeff Hardy had that awesomely amazing feud and we were all like oh my god this is so awesome and amazing? Remember when he beat the Undertaker in the main event of a PPV? That was at Breaking Point in September 2009, about 19 months ago.
Well guess how many PPV matches CM Punk has won since then. What? No, you idiot, that's a terrible guess. The correct answer is one. Punk has competed in 15 PPV matches since then and has a respectable 1-14 win/loss record (a slick 0.067 win percentage). His lone victory came against Rey Mysterio at Extreme Rules 2010. You history buffs out there will note that this was of course sandwiched between a loss to Mysterio at WrestleMania 26 and a loss to Mysterio at Over the Limit 2010 that resulted in Punk being shaved bald. So let's all discuss our favorite jobber to the stars. |
<img src="http://www.thewrestlingfan.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/doghouse.jpg" id="il_fi" height="338" width="315" style="padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 8px; ">
Nah I'm just kidding. If CM Punk's record means anything it means that win-loss records don't really mean shit. Sure he's lost but hes been impressive in defeat. He's had great matches and great moments like the Royal Rumble in 2010. He was pretty damn good on the announce squad, so he's proven to be versatile. He's been booked with the only Superstar who remembers things that happened years ago. I think he needs to get the stain of the Nexus off of him and be on his own as a Straight Edge Savior. |
He's a not-so-poor man's Jericho...he can stay over regardless of his win/loss record.
1-14 ? Holy Crap
Now granted a lot of those matches were not 1 on 1 and they include two Rumbles, but isn't it interesting all the same
Knew it was bad didnt realise how bad though. He loses but at least he isnt jobbed out in squashes, can see him being used like Jericho always around the main event even if its just to get others over.
Comparatively, in that same time period
Santino has 2 PPV wins R-Truth has 4 Jack Swagger has 4 hmmmm |
You know it's fake right? Who cares about win-lose records, it's not even wrestling anymore. Get a grip, get with the times, and try to enjoy it more than critique it and you'll have more fun.
Punk is tedious anyway, so he should be a jobber.
Wish he was on commentary still. |

You're right man. Please direct me to the post where I was critical and I will change it for you. |
Does NXT still track the win-loss record of their rookies? It bothered me when they did it for Season 1.
Think Grisham does, dont think its really brought up as much though.

At least he gents plenty of PPV chances unlike DiBiase.
If anything, Punk deserves a buttload of credit for keeping his character fresh and relevant despite not going over in any of his feuds since Hardy in summer 2009.
If the rock, steve austin and hhh had run in during the main event lastnight, tore cena to shreads and began a feud with him where they beat the shit outta him for the next month or two, you would get some bell end in here giving out immediately. iv said it many times but some wrestling fans only watch to complain, its sad but they are the ones who suffer in the end when they're 80 and dribbling all over themselves in an old folks home with nobody in the world to love them.

I dunno. Swagger's pretty chunky.
It doesn't matter that he loses so much - in fact, if anything, it's awesome that he can be booked to lose so many matches and yet still be in a position where he can feud with basically anyone and will elevate the feud simply by being who he is. Punk has all the skills of a great wrestler and is always one of the main highlights of RAW. Losing matches doesn't mean a thing for Punk, because next month he could be in the WWE Title scene and win the thing and he'd still be taken as a credible contender/champion. He's got that thing going for him and he's still relatively early in his WWE career.
so cm punk is doing his job as a heel by getting the faces over? what's the issue?
It might seem odd but Punk has been winning a lot of tv and/or house show matches which helps keep his credibility as a threat in any feud he's been involved.
Unlike MVP when he had his long loosing streak, Punk's promo ability is strong enough to keep him relevant even while loosing almost all the big matches. |

Take a chill pill, Wrestling Forum. |
Fuck wrestling forum, you guys are a bunch of nit picky bastards that arguing the wrong thing. Supreme isnt say CM Punk is a waste of antlered spot. He is pointing out a statistic for the sake of it.
thank you for clearing that one up...
job: stating the obvious. HIRED. |
Honestly Supreme, this is a very interesting statistic that you brought up, I didn't realize it until now.
Just goes to show that Punk is over enough, talented enough, and has enough presence to still show that he can be a threat to WHOEVER on the roster as a main eventer without having to go over every single time. |
Punk is definitely much like Jericho. He never loses steam with losses.
But he beat cena 3 times
Maybe I'm crazy... but isn't a jobber a guy who just usually gets squashed in a match constantly?.... Its not like Punk goes out there and gets completely buried when he loses.... and at the end of a "season" there isn't a wins/losses statistic anyways.
There is a reason no one noticed this stat until now... its not a detrimental factor. The people are more interested in the story and how it evolves than the win/loss count. |

I have to say, given how completely dominant Orton looked in matches against new Nexus members on RAW leading up to his Mania match with Punk, I was pretty disappointed that Punk didn't end up completely dominating and winning at Mania.
Small gripe for one of the better matches at Mania this year though. |
**UPDATE**
1-15 |
I wonder what his record with fucking the divas is?
Clean sweep.

He'll never win on PPV again. :(
It's amazing that the writers haven't picked up on this, and worked it into an angle.
Well, its not that amazing.
Eh, being one of the top heels in the company who can't seem to win when it really counts seems pretty compelling to me.
Yeah, but the writers not picking up on something like this isn't shocking, lets be honest!
I want him to keep losing PPVs and then challenge Taker at WM 28.
Point taken.
Sad part is his only win was against Taker in a screwjob angle they should put him back to the midcard for a while and have him pwn each and everyone of them starting with I dunno... maybe Kofi?
I feel the same way about Punk now as I did about Jericho. I hate seeing them lose constantly but it really didn't take away from their characters on TV.
Quote:
Having Punk run through the mid card doesn't help anyone. It hurts the talents he goes over and hurts him by stepping out of the upper card. |
If it werent for this thread I wouldn't of noticed the record tbh, so I don't think Punk is in such a bad spot r/n. Could of probably done with a win here or there (Big Show feud) but it hasnt really harmed him.
as long as he don't bad mouth vince if he goes there, i think the best thing for him is to go back to tna for awhile. let him work the lighter work load. an he can fued with angle rvd aj samoa joe and kaz
fuckin' muties
Out of all the guys on the roster, having a losing streak like that doesn't affect Punk at all. He could still job it up, but people will still respect him and I don't think it takes away or makes his character look weak.
The fact that no one notices the losing streak just shows how good Punk is at getting his heat back and making the audience believe he's credible.
Punk is probably one of the top dogs in the company - to whom wins & losses don't matter. Will probably become this era's Jericho in that sense. Or HBK, HHH, Undertaker, Randy Orton, John Cena, Kane, Big Show... the win/loss doesn't matter anymore.
**UPDATE**
1-16 |
It is getting pretty ridiculous how often CM Punk loses.
Yeah, I'm waiting for Punk to fuck us all in Tipsters one ppv here soon.
CM Punk will headline WrestleMania XXVII and defeat John Cena and The Rock in a No-Disqualification Triple Threat Elimination Match to become the WWE Heavyweight Champion.
You heard it here first!
A victory at Wrestlemania would do wonders for Punk and push his win loss total to a respectable 2-25
I'm just shocked he didn't say HHH.

In all seriousness, I am slowly coming to grips with the fact that Triple H, my beloved Triple H, is no longer a full-time active professional wrestler. |
A heel that gets himself over every week without making anyone else look weak? Sounds like the best employee a wrestling company could ever had

**UPDATE** 2-16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CM Punk is about to win da TITLE!

THE STREAK IS OVER!

He beat Cena on RAW AND Mysterio on a PPV.

As seen on Monday Night Raw tonight, CM Punk announced that he will be leaving WWE after his contract expires on July 17th, which is the day of the Money in the Bank PPV. After speaking with several sources, WZ can confirm that as of this writing, Punk does indeed plan to leave the company following the PPV, and he has not signed a new deal with WWE. This does NOT mean, however, that it's guaranteed Punk will actually leave following the PPV, as anything can change between now and then, and has in the past. Two years ago, when Jeff Hardy was finishing his last run with WWE, he had informed management on a number of occasions that he would be leaving the company on a certain date. But because he was such a hot commodity in WWE at the time, officials did their best to accommodate Hardy, and were able to re-sign him to contract extensions that saw him remain with the company for several months after he had initially intended to leave. In the case of CM Punk, it could play out that the current angle between him and John Cena draws better than expected, which could lead WWE brass to step up and offer Punk a bigger money deal to remain with the company. It's no coincidence that Punk has been putting a tremendous amount of effort into his work recently, in what I would guess is an attempt to prove his ultimate worth in WWE. Last month, WZ was the first to exclusively report that Cena requested to feud with Punk this summer, in an attempt to persuade CM Punk to re-sign with the company after his contract expires. One source noted to us tonight, "in a way, this angle is a test for both management and Punk. For management, it's to see how well he can draw at the top, and for Punk it's a way for him to gauge whether or not WWE fully backs him as a main event player." http://twitter.com/#!/CMPunk CMPunk CM Punk Come say goodbye on July 17th. CM Punk wins the WWE Title and leaves with it, forcing WWE to introduce a new WWE Title.
Couple of months later, when Punk comes back with the WWE Title he never lost, unification match. And an end to the spinner. |
I think the Raw MITB winner cashing in on Punk after his match with Cena is a more likely scenario.
It wasn't a bad idea from the n00b though, I've seen a lot worse.
Hes gone. No way he wins. Cena goes over clean just like he did with Jericho.

nobody really knows - its compelling tv! Finally!
a guy a large portion of us are emotionally invested in has a grand storyline IN THE SUMMERTIME...i'm shocked and happy. (unless it ends up with him leaving forever :( ) |
Yeah, it really could go either way. He could have re-signed and just be taking a few months/a year off, he could stay on a few more months for a title run, or it really could be he's leaving and he just jobs on the way out. I really do think if he "leaves" with the title it opens up A LOT of oppurtunity.
Also, posted this in the RAW thread. Found it interesting. From PWInsider: On his Twitter account, CM Punk wrote the following: "I knew I was gone at the beginning of the year. I just woke up one day and I knew. That's the way I work a lot of the time. I think it's creepy too, but it's really helpful. I knew I'd be history by July. Come say goodbye on July 17th. I promise to go out with a bang. Trust me. XxX" Punk wrote a very similar blog when he was heading into his final announced ROH appearance, a bout where he was scheduled to challenge then-ROH champion Austin Aries. Some of the verbiage is actually the same. In that bout, Punk won the title and began a farewell speech, but then turned heel in the process and "took the belt hostage" for the summer, teasing he was going to deliver the belt to Vince McMahon. He would leave ROH several months later after losing the belt to James Gibson. When Punk made his one return ROH appearance during a blizzard, by the way, he closed out that show by inviting the crowd out into the snow...to make snow angels. |
It is funny to me that the same shit is being posted in like 3-4 threads at the moment.
Controversy Creates Threads. |
Where would he go after WWE? He would be a flash in the pan at TNA, so it would be dumb for him to go there.

I HIGHLY doubt CM Punk would join TNA... if he is gonna wrestle, I'd think he would go help out ROH in their new TV season, otherwise maybe he will just take time off.

I'm really intrigued by this angle. I'm sad that Punk is (apparently) leaving, but if the WWE steps up his offer, who knows? Plus, I don't think it's beyond CM Punk to play everyone for chumps.
Cena vs. Punk is a match I have been really interested in seeing. I mean, we have before, but their feud was cut short earlier this year, and I was really quite fascinated to see where Punk was going with his "faux-hero" stuff. Another thing that interests me about this, is that Punk is part of angle very similar to one he was involved in with ROH. The guy obviously has a mind for the business, and people in management obviously respect that -- few guys have the creative freedom he has. Personally, I think the heat opportunity is too great for Punk not to win in Chicago (where the crowd will be...weird). On one hand -- he's the hometown boy; and on the other, he's going to take the WWE Title if he wins. I see Punk winning due to Nexus-aid, only for a babyface winner of Money in the Bank (or even a heel), cashing in and ending Punk's dreams. Ironic, for the only winner of two Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. |
CM Punk = TNA

Interesting, it's so similar that they're wanting us to believe it's a carbon copy with him winning the title and all. I think that's what Punk wants us to believe and he won't actually win it. |
