Ohhhhh Chavo... you're released
http://www.wwe.com/inside/chavo-guerrero-released
So now Chavo is gone from WWE. Where does he go? What does he do now? |
Normally I'd make jokes about the inevitable TNA signing, but with TNA doing the whole Mexican cross-promo thing right now, it makes more sense than the usual "TNA signs a WWE castoff" situation.
|
For crying out loud.
|
Can't say I'm surprised. Hard to believe he was on this long, really.
He's one of the last who came in from the Invasion. I think the only other one (who wasn't released and came back) is Charles Robinson. |
Goddamn. :(
|
He's been pretty interesting lately. His stuff with Sin Cara was good and he was entertaining on NXT. Six months ago, I wouldn't have had a problem with this, but now that they're actually doing something with him...
|
Figured he'd just get moved into a backstage role eventually, but not entirely shocked really.
|
Slow Saturday. "Chavo Guerrero" is trending worldwide on Twitter.
|
Surprised they didn't wait until Darren Young got eliminated from NXT first.
|
Quote:
Probably just them not giving a shit about NXT than anything else, really. |
Honestly thought he'd have a job for life. :'(
|
Come to think of it, Chavo may have asked for his release. He posted on his twitter that big things were about to happen.
|
*Oh Sh*t*

Guerrero's have always been rebels, so It's time for me to start being a Guerrero..Big news coming a bit later..stay tuned! |

I almost wonder if Chavo was too. I know he had at least 1 strike on him. |
If it was wellness they would have announced it on the Corporate site and probably mentioned it on WWE.com.
|
I get the feeling that maybe Chavo did something to get released.
He seemed pretty loyal to the WWE and vice versa. (To the Guerrero family) Not long ago WWE.com did a story on him about how he was the last surviving guy from The Invasion, so it was all going good between both parties. Given the date today, maybe he mentioned Benoit in some way, be it at a House Show, or at an interview or something. Yesterday was the fourth Anniversary of his death. :-\ Just guessing though. |
From Chavo's Twitter:
Yes, it's true. My release is the big news I was talking about. But let's get something straight. I asked for my release. I was just tired.. |
So probably going to TNA for a title shot like everyone else who gets tired.
|
I want to see his TNA theme, but that's about it.
|
Except Chavo can work.
|
Chavo just tweeted that he asked for his release because he was tired of not being used correctly.
|
I hope he comes back sometime down the line.
|
Big Vito with the breaking news ;)
|
Full tweet:
Yes, it's true. My release is the big news I was talking about. But let's get something straight. I asked for my release. I was just tired.. Of not being used correctly. Just cuz u can make other ppl look good, doesn't mean they should just have u lose to them. The same thing... Happened to Eddie. After being champ, they still had him working mid card status. Being a Guerrero, we've been taught since diapers to get.. The most out of ppl & matches. It's our gift, but also our curse. WWE has always used us to make other ppl look good. It all comes down to Being happy. I was not happy in WWE anymore. I had a smile on my face last night though when I got my release though! :) now it's time for For me to start being a Guerrero again, and start kicking ass again, be able to tell stories in the ring like u know we can. :) win or lose I will never go back to the place WWE put me in. I will never go back to being under utilized and watching ppl who suck get bigger "pushes" Than me! Thank u to all of u who stuck by me & kept reminding me, I was better than that! :) stay tuned.. Big things coming!! Now I will Really be able to entertain u! :) like me or hate me, 1 thing I have always tried to do is entertain u and give u fans your $ worth. Even if My hands were tied most of the time. I love u all and can't wait for the future!! So happy. :) |
Would be hilarious if he goes to TNA after saying all that.
|
He's still tweeting so I'll just keep updating that post.
|
"now it's time for me to start being a Guerrero again, and start kicking ass again, be able to tell stories in the ring like u know we can."
I think it is pretty clear he wants to keep wrestling. |
I seem to remember he lashed out on the IWC over Twitter a couple years ago because he was sick of hearing people say WWE were mistreating him when he was jobbing to Hornswoggle every Monday.
Guess everybody has their limits. |
Or he was just in denial. Or bullshitting to keep his job.
A Chavo shoot would be interesting, actually. |
Kinda sad for him, I remember hoping his feud with Benoit over the US title back in 2006 would boost him up the card a little bit. :(
Either way, I'm a big fan of Chavo and hope he does well with his next endeavor. As someone said above, I kinda imagined he would be one of those people set for life in the WWE, but I could see him coming back in some shape or form in the future. |
I'd assume he has the 90-day non-compete, and depending on when the taping is, he may be able to debut on the ROH TV show's first show.
Edit: Acutally, no, because it'd be up around 9/25, and the first episode is 9/24. |
2200 likes so far on WWE's Facebook announcement.
What are we supposed to see this as? A good thing or a bad thing? |
90 days would be the 23rd. Five days left in June + 31 in July + 31 in August + 23 = 90

Does the 90 day no compete count as only TV/PPV or also performances taped FOR TV/PPV? |

By the sound of his tweets, I really wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in ROH. On a side note, Eddie wrestled on ROH's first show.
|
And ironically, Chavo could conceivably wrestle on their last, if SBG decides to can the promotion.

Chavo's tweets make him sound like a bit of a faggot, but I wish him well regardless. I loved him in the WCW days with Pepe and the "EDDIE GUERRERO IS MY FAVORITE WRESTLER" t-shirt. Not really so much at all since then, but whatever.
|
Chavo Guerrero should go to ROH.
|
Does Chavo really think he should have been a main eventer or something? He never would have worked at the top, no matter how you pushed him. He should have just been happy to have a job in the biggest wrestling company in the world. He almost comes off as a less irritating Bob Holly.
|
I'm pretty sure during the Daniel Bryan fiasco it was revealed that WWE has to approve any and all bookings you take during those 90 days. So yeah, they certainly wouldn't sign off on him working the ROH tapings for their first TV show.
Seeing him ultimately wind up in ROH though would not surprise me, I'd love to see what he does there. A return to Mexico is also a good possibility. |
WWE GETS:
*Alberto Del Rio *Sin Cara MEXICO GETS: *Chavo Guerrero  As if Mexico wasn't shitty enough already. |
(Apologies to my Mexican friends. You know te quiero)

damn i wish he was released 3 months ago so he could have worked tna's x-div ppv, i would love to see him join rosita and sorita
|
not a huge surprise..... I'm guessing he retires.....

That being said, he shouldn't have been jobbing to 'Swog for a year straight. I mean, Laurinitis used him to torpedo one guy, and that wasn't enough for him? (If you're wondering, I was referring to Finlay.) I wouldn't consider 'Swog a significant enough draw for WWE to warrant that. He shouldn't have been the top guy, but he also shouldn't have been made into a joke is what I'm saying. I do want to point out that Holly did good work with Cody. That was probably the perfect role for him: He gets to play the hard ass he is and Cody got to get "toughened up" as a result. Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing a vet with a kind of gimmick like that. |
Quote:
The angle with Sin Cara had him on the right track, but I guess it was too little too late. |
Ok Vastardikai pretty much beat me to it. :foc:
|
The Swagger Soaring Eagle was incredible. What the fuck else could you want out of your career?
|
Kerwin White was going to be amazing too, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO, Chavo is too good for that.
Honestly, rejecting that gimmick is probably what set him on the course he ran, knowing Vince's ego. |
Chavo in TNA would be horrible, Chavo in ROH I just don't see a fit, he should go to CMLL or AAA if he wants to be a main eventer.

I heard Chavo denounced the gimmick after Eddie's death, claiming that he didn't want his character denying his heritage in the wake of the tragic event. HOW CAN WE TELL WHO'S RIGHT?????
|
If he would have stuck with it, he could have gotten mega shit bag heat.
|
didn't see this coming, thought he'd be around forever as an agent eventually. Wouldn't surprise me if he wanted out, I think he'll be back down the line ala Kidman, Bill DeMott etc
|
well this is a bit longer than I thought it was

SO MUCH WOULD HAVE CHANGED HAD CHAVO STUCK WITH IT. |
For someone who basically kept his job because his uncle died he should be thankful he got to stick around and get a steady paycheck.
|
What brother?
|
Oh, and Kerwin White was the best gimmick in the past 30 years.

Sort of surprised he got released since I figured he would have gotten a job as an agent or something else like most other long-time wrestlers with the company but if he wasn't enjoying his job anymore then it makes sense why he wanted to leave.
He's probably been very wise with his money and figured the best time to retire or leave would be now and not have to worry about rushing back into wrestling just to earn some needed cash like a Flair. |

Loved Kerwin White. Chavo being himself is boring. |
OMG NO. He was just getting good!
|
DAMMIT. =/ I was FOR SURE that Ryder was first blood. Fuck.
|
I have always liked Chavo, with periodic stints of really liking him. Hope he does well.
He definitely could have been used much better than the WWE was using him. At one point I could have bought him moving up to the upper card. Like right after his last feud with Eddie. Then Eddie won the title, and Chavo fought him... I remember thinking... "Yeah. Ok. I can buy this guy as a top guy." |

*after typing that out, I just remembered that Punk was Young's pro, and "refused to coach him" because he wasn't straightedge. I just thought it was JUST amusing enough to keep rolling with it, though. |
This is interesting. I guess Chavo Guerrero actually wants to work and "tell stories" in the ring. I felt that the WWE had given him quite a bit of time to do that on NXT, Superstars and even SmackDown! and PPV lately. I think maybe Chavo feels himself getting a bit older, and realises that if he's ever going to have those matches near the top somewhere, that makes people think boats were missed with him, it better be now. I have no doubt he'll return to the WWE at a later date as an agent or trainer when he misses the big paychecks a bit more.
I hope this isn't the self-destruction of Chavo Guerrero, though, and that he doesn't burn bridges promising the world and then doing a few indy dates. As a fan of Chavo's, I believe that his ring ability and connection to fans (regardless of whether you consider Chavo "charismatic" or not, he was always over) has got enough validity even today to make him of value to both TNA and ROH. Honestly, I'd love to see Chavo given the gimmick of a veteran who knows more about wrestling than "kids these days," despite not being over the top, and give him a no-nonsense, "here to finally win" shtick. I'd love to see Kurt Angle vs. Chavo Guerrero, actually. |

would love to see Chavo show up in ROH
|
dammit, Kerwin White
|
SWERVE! Mistico was released. Chavo is now Sin Cara! That explains the lack of botching. The lighting treatment is so we don't notice.
"But how did they both appear in ring at the same time?" Same way Blue Blazer did it. And Suicide. More than one guy the whole time. |
will he still do a shitty version of the frogsplash in TNA?

green flanel = ratings
|
Chavo in ROH would be pretty amazing, I'd have to say. I'd love to see him either aligned with Mike Bennett and Brutal Bob, or alongside Steve Corino and Jimmy Jacobs as "evil men trying to reform."
|
guess he got pissed for taking heat due to his sin cara match at the ppv.
|
Yeah I figured the Sin Cara stuff was the last straw for him.
|
I honestly think it's just a case of the Carlito-type stuff. You're on the road for years, taking bumps going out there and giving 100% (and yes, I still feel that laziness was only the effect of the cause of Carlito's problems), and you understand the business, and know that you might never be a top guy (although Carly had a better chance than Chavo, and a loss of his "future star" status might have frustrated him more than never having been given that), but you sort of want to feel that you are doing *something.*
Being an opening act is not a bad thing, but when you get sore and tired and aren't content but don't see change, you just want that change of scenery. The paychecks won't be the same, but it's not about that. Until you start missing the money. Same thing probably happened with MVP, too. |
I really don't think ROH would benifit from Chavo, nobody will turn their TV on and see Chavo and be like "OH SHIT HE'S HERE NOW WTF!"

Something like that could be pretty compelling. Especially if they don't put Chavo over as some god in wrestling, but as a guy who never lived up to the highest example of his family. Chavo comes in, works some brilliant matches, starts at the bottom and works his way up. It could create a "Holy shit, is this guy actually going to do it?" vibe. Plus, lying, cheating and stealing could get over so well in ROH. |

|
Chavo has WAY too much personality to be in ROH. Heck, he'd be their world champ in a week.
|
Quote:
A guy who was a low card jobber for his entire career with a few mid card runs as exceptions does not make me thing "Best in the World". To me if you put Chavo in an ROH title feud that would drastically cheapen the belt and all they have worked for it to be. No WWE guy should EVER come in and win the title without a good long story behind. Even then, I don't want it to happen. ROH's World Title is special again, and I really do think Davey Richards will bring "The Best in the World" out of ROH. |
