An interesting interview. Although I laugh everytime I see Orton say Cena is "lightyears" ahead of everyone and The Rock on the mic. He obviously is seeing something I'm not. All I see is cheesy jokes and the same speech of him being himeself every week. Riddle me this Viper, if Cena owns The Rock so much, why did he have to goad him into a match by taking cheap shots?

Also hilarious that even Orton finds Cena's in ring style to be a joke.

The fact is if Cena was so great on the mic as Orton claimed, he wouldn't feel the need to prove himself against The Rock. Time after time he challenged The Rock or bad mouthed him all so he could wrestle him.

Obviously Orton hasn't gotten over his concussion for him to be making those rediculous comments. And what does Orton know about being good on the mic? Jericho has way more credibiity because he is a GOD on the mic and he says the Rock is the best ever.

John Cena was rapping on the mic in 2003/2004 not long after he broke into the WWE and he was almost as good as The Rock even then. Hate on Cena cos its the popular/cool thing to do but he is absolutely superb on the stick. Doubting that is retarded, he has gotten over huge as a heel and face which is something internet darling CM Punk hasnt been able to do. The Rock is the only one who can touch Cena on the mic. The next level below them features guys like Austin, Michaels, Triple H, CM Punk, Hulk Hogan, Chris Jericho and maybe a few others

Its on radio, all they are is a voice so they speak way way too much. Radio DJ's aren't the most skilled people in the world in fairness. Their job is press a button, say something loud kinda stuff

Speaking of Jericho, I could use some Jericho goodness right now. I've thought him to be wallowing and overrated for a long time, and at the same time incredibly misused in some situations, but now that he's gone, I start going back to earlier shit and go man, he should be on that list of people I miss having around.

I think Jericho was right there with The Rock on the mic, personally. And I don't think Rock is as good as he used to be (in some respects, at least). But it isn't to the degree that Cena is even remotely in his league, or for that matter, Jericho's.

Before Jericho's second feud with The Rock over the undisputed title, and betraying him at Survivor Series, etc, there was a small period of time in which they cut promos together against HHH and Stephanie and all of them, and those were fucking great.

But you blow off Cena so easily? Go to Youtube and check out his early rapping stuff. He was a relative newb back then but i remember thinking that he was as close to The Rock (on the mic) as we have ever seen. If he was allowed to continue with that character, whether he continued rapping all his promos or let it go a bit, we would all be discussing a very different John Cena today

I was referring to my sarcasm above when CSL quoted me and asked me "what's going on here". Ironic to me he didn't catch the sarcasm when I said "Riddle me this Viper, if Cena's so good on the mic, why does he have to prove himself to The Rock?" Dwayne was the one taking all the cheap shots, and stupid name calling, constantly attacking Cena on Twitter, and basically acting like a fucking child.

Because telling a rap makes you a good mic worker.If anything it made Cena better on the mic than he actually is. Once he couldn't rap anymore he got exposed. That's why he went back to rap to counter the Rock because it was the only way he can compete.

chrisat928, I do agree The Rock took shots at Cena. Both were back and forth for a while before the match was set up. But, for the most part, Cena started the war of words by indirectly claiming The Rock was a sellout. Funny, considering Cena himself tried branching out into movies(less successfully I might add).

Overall, Orton's interview was an interesting read. I laughed when he all but called Kelly Kelly a slut. Also cool him mentioning Jericho being a badass confronting Vince and being a lockeroom leader. Kinda surprizing that The Rock got Orton in trouble with Vince by spreading untrue rumors. Guess CM Punk wasn't too far off calling Dwayne an asskisser...

Do you rap? I dont but fuck me it aint easy. Its much much harder to rap than just talk so i dunno what the fuck you are on about. Cena went back to the rap because it allows him to talk non-PG smack, he probably used it to tease the smarks too. I loved rapping Cena so much and it made me smile hearing him do it again. Frankly your a fool if you dont think Cena can work a mic. Compare him to John Morrison, Batista, Daniel Bryan, Bret Hart, etc and tell me he cant do it. Some people just hate on Cena cos they think its the thing to do. Ill admit his wrestling ability is not what it probably could be but he has always been an excellent talker.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, or if it's even in the same interview, but apparently Randy Orton revealed that Dolph Ziggler is apparently dating adult film star BiBi Jones. Make "Dolph Ziggler sounds like a porn name" jokes...now!

Cena was somewhat entertaining on the mic when he did the raps, but he still wasn't awesome on the mic. And I don't hate on Cena b/c it's popular, it's b/c I'm objectively looking at his work. He went from a potential breakout star on the mic, to just another guy making cheesy jokes and trying to be another Rock. He obviously cannot improvise the way Rocky could in his prime, so he shouldn't try it. To compare him to any of those guys you listed is a flawed comparison, cause none were breakout stars that got complacent the way Cena has. The issue here was him supposedly being "lightyears" ahead of The Rock according to Orton. He isn't nearly as great as guys like The Rock, Austin, Taker(badass), Hogan, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Roddy Piper. etc. Orton is clearly biased towards Cena training and coming up through OVW and WWE together. But to claim he's the best on the mic is laughable and sad if he actually believes it. A good mic worker maybe, great? Not even close.

He's not horrible on the mic but he is not in the Rock, Austin, Jericho, Foley, JBL's league. And people don't hate on Cena because it's the cool thing to do. They hate on him because he is not entertaining to watch or listen to.

I wasn't aware of the level of sexism in wwe or for that matter, in any walk of life until it was pointed out to me about a year ago and i am just trying to make a point here. Yes, but Orton clearly was comparing them now. He even took it so far as to claim he's "lightyears" ahead of anyone. A very laughable and ridiculous statement. All Cena usually does on the mic is made very bad jokes and keep saying he's being himself. Not very groundbreaking or creative. I will agree when he was a heel on SD in 2003, he was starting to be a unique mic worker, but since he's been face, he hasn't stood out. And far as the guys I listed that were better, I was simply pointing out Cena has a long way to go before he can be considered a great mic worker. But, Cena has been in the WWE for almost 10 years, and compared to the ppl I listed he isn't in their league yet. Maybe he can turn that perception around when he does finally turn heel(when and if that ever happens:D). However, as of right now, he isn't a very solid performer on the mic.

I wanna be very clear here though. I'm not a bandwagon Cena hater. I simply dislike the guy b/c he's a kid attraction who was loaded with potential. Back in 2003, I was a Cena fan, b/c he was working the mic well and pretty much ripping his opponents to bits on the mic. Then when they turned him face and drafted him to Raw, they trashed his gimmick and avoided it like the plague. Essentially killing any uniqueness or creativity his character had. That fact was never more apparent than when The Rock returned and verbally destroyed him. He had to return ro the rapping b/c that's the only way he could hope to stay up with The Rock on the mic. As the time draws closer to their WM 28 match, I really hope WWE turns Cena and we get to see some classic mic work...

Honestly, The Rock wasn't that impressive either. Clearly his mic work isn't what it used to be when he was a regular WWE wrestler. He did a decent job, but with him going into WM next year into the ME, he needs to bring more than a retort about Fruity Pebbles. If I hear that one more time, I swear Cena should literally carry a box of fruity pebbles to the ring and show him how ridiculous it is. Neither guy really stole the show after weeks and weeks of trash talking.

I wasn't so concerned with the content but more the delivery. He just seemed to shout. A lot. And over act. A lot.

I think most of that is b/c his delivery timing and reactions were off since he's rusty in the mic area. For the most part, he spoke the way he always did, only using worse material. If the content sucks, so does the promo. They are proof is you don't say the right things, then promos are irrelevant. Especially if it's only a retort and not a face to face promo battle. Putting no heart into the promo, coupled with bad lines can make even the best mic worker look weak. And Rock looked alot weaker than he did in the Attitude era...

The Rock was slightly, maybe just a tiny bit rusty and maybe all his acting classes possibly affected his delivery a little (cos he acted a bit too much) but his return promo was the best promo on RAW in a long time. It was funny and awesome when he mentioned Cena. This is another case of the eternally unsatisfied IWC member. For once just enjoy the fucking show as a fan and not a critic

Dunno bout that Punk. I'm a pretty big optimist when it comes to wrestling. I like most of what is going on and am the TPWW advocate for "STOP LIVING IN THE PAST" (i.e. "bring back the Attitude Era"). So, I wouldn't say I came under the "eternally unsatisfied" bracket.

The fact that he's spent the last 7 years acting would make me think he'd have a better grasp of the nuances of a monologue. But to me it just seemed he shouted a lot and did that oh-so-clever kiddie voice to mock Cena. Thoroughly unimpressed.

So what now? I can't be objective and review my opinion on a promo? Everyone here on the IWC gives their thoughts on wrestling, negative and positive. I'm sure even you see faults in one topic or another. If not, then you are a true mark. The fact of the matter is wrestling is at a down time, and it shows in their product. I will grant you his initial return promo was great, but after that, he carried the fruity pebble joke too far.

I do enjoy the shows, but their lack of effort is very apparent when something as big as The Rock's return is botched. If that makes me a critic for pointing out the obvious, then I guess label me a critic. I prefer to say I'm open minded enough to see the good and the bad, and review it fairly. Never ceases to amaze me that ppl who never met me jump to conclusions on wrestling forums.
