What awful movies do you absolutely love?

Was looking for my VHS copy of The Dirt Bike Kid today and it got me thinking about other awful movies I enjoy as well.

Star Wars Christmas Special
Shazam

Inadequacy 12-22-2012 11:39 PM

Are we talking bad movies that we like in a "so bad it's good" kinda way, or movies that are critically panned but that we genuinely like?

The latter.

So The Room and Birdemic do not count.

Lock Jaw 12-23-2012 01:32 AM

I don't know man. I "like" some critically panned movies, but I don't know if I would say that I "love" them.

The Condor 12-23-2012 01:49 AM

Drive Angry with Nick Cage. Stupid, mindless fun and I love every second of its deranged premise and hammy, over the top acting. The sex/fight scene is inspiring material.

Mortal Kombat WAS awesome. Annhiliation, not so much.

I went to see Masters of the Universe when it came out in the theatre, I was fucking glued! I had to piss like halfway through and held it to the very end. First movie I ever remember having a post-credit P.S. I don't care how off cannon that movie was... IT WAS GODDAMN HE-MAN! In my child eyes, it could do no wrong.

Just going by what I have DVD versions of:
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Punisher Warzone
Grandma's Boy

"A View to Kill" got panned badly as a Bond film but I liked it.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-23-2012 04:25 PM

I kinda like The Da Vinci Code, and Angels and Demons.

Never read the books nor will I, but I liked the films even though they were pretty much panned.

I only saw the first. The fifteen "endings" were all that annoyed me and I get the feeling that that was from the books anyway.

Also, I started the da Vinci Code, and it reads like a romance novel.

Jacob Kell was an alright villain. And I loved the idea of melding the TV and movie universes. Could have been better. This introduced me to Donnie Yen so there's that.

Same here. I freaking loved SR, even though I think they picked entirely the wrong people to play Superman and Lois-- nothing against Routh or Bosworth, but it was pretty obviously written to be Superman much later into his career, so they should've cast older actors instead of two twenty-somethings. Still, it's probably my favorite guilty-pleasure movie.

Other generally hated flicks that I honestly love/loved:

Alien 3
Prometheus
The Matrix sequels
Constantine

I don't really get why people are so pissed about the aliens. Raiders of the Lost Ark had a box that melts peoples faces off. It's just racism to other's cultural believes. Just because it's the Christian dogma it's ok, but if you try to bring some South American/Mayan dogma it's end of the world.

Oh No! Aliens in the "real" world. Guess they hated ET too?

I think the problem with the aliens in Crystal Skull was that it tried to mash sci-fi into a series that was established more in fantasy. Yeah, they're both unrealistic and escapist and whatnot, but sci-fi and fantasy usually don't mix (except in Star Wars, and I think that only worked because they brought in the Force right in the beginning instead of later on in the series). Like, picture if wizards started showing up in Terminator, or if flying saucers started popping up in Lord of the Rings. Once you've established which genre you're doing, mixing in another one just kinda seems....wrong.

Lock Jaw 01-08-2013 06:42 PM

Guys, guys, please.... They were "Interdimensional Beings", not aliens.

They don't like it because the Mayan beliefs are false.
