Oh dear God! CM Punk's new WWE gimmick

He's going to be a deaf wrestler, a deaf fucking wrestler! What the fuck, why dear god why

The Fugitive 08-05-2005 03:46 AM

Great, so now we've got a mentally challenged wrestler, a diva with a mole on her face, and now a deaf wrestler.

Who the fuck is making up this shit?

Nervous Ferret 08-05-2005 03:46 AM

Mr. Nerfect 08-05-2005 03:49 AM

What.......the.........fuck?

Let the guy be CM FUCKIN' PUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously? Why couldn't they just have Jillian Hall play a female manager? Why did she need the growth? Why did Matt Morgan need to stutter. If they had let him talk normally, and let him show off his skills I guarantee he'd still have a job.

What is it with the WWE and thinking they're funny because they play off disabilities. Hell, I'm starting to think the Muhammad Hassan character WAS supposed to be a terrorist. Seriously, what the fuck?

Who the fuck sits around a table, discussing ideas for their wrestling show, and says "how about a deaf wrestler?", and who the fuck OKs it?

Drakul 08-05-2005 04:08 AM

Uh, Nikelodeon writers,maybe.

Because retard was taken.

PullMyFinger 08-05-2005 04:25 AM

WTF!!! He should've just stayed at ROH or gone to TNA...because as shitty as TNA may be....they at least give wrestlers more dignity than WWE does!

The Fugitive 08-05-2005 04:32 AM

We're going to have a blind wrestler next, with a guide dog, I know it.

Actually, I'll be interested to see how that gimmick works. Especially during the match.

Drakul 08-05-2005 05:00 AM

The dog mauls the opponent and cos hes the guys eyes its legal.

What's next?.. A Wrestler in a Wheelchair?

Will his matches be signed for deaf viewers?

Deaf Wrestler: What?!?

Vince: "Alright, I'm going to put CM Punk on TV, but with a deaf gimmick"

Smarks: "FUCK YOU"

Seriously, shut the hell up. He's going to be on TV.

You know, they could pull this off good... Have him be a heel. And have the refs like give him leway on five counts and shit because he can't hear.

Later have him handed a IC title shot because he's deaf, saying that since he's disabled, he deserves it...

Then later have it be a scam ;)

Chavo Classic 08-05-2005 07:44 AM

Lol. That would be funny. If it were done in that way, his promos and interviews would be gold - could you imagine the Coach trying to get a conversation from him and just getting more and more frustrated?

Shaggy 08-05-2005 08:13 AM

Well this definently sucks...im willing to give it a try but im not having high hopes...

Who knows....perhaps we might see the first Special Stable with .....Eugene....CM Punk...and...err....Triple H? yea he has to be in everything right

The Mackem 08-05-2005 08:15 AM

If they go through with this it could be quite funny.

The WWE can fuck off with the stupid retarded writers for all i care.I'm tired of seeing wrestlers put in stupid gimmicks that make no sence/have no thought in them at all.I was actually interested in CM Punk for the first time in the WWE now they've gone and ruined that interest all they can, well sorry, that's not the right fucking way to get viewers.

I've got a conspiracy theory...

The WWE doesn't want the marks to know that other wrestling promotions can come up with creative gimmicks, so this is why they have given him a new gimmick!

Thats not a conspiracy - it's fact. Vince doesn't want anyone to know there are alternatives to his product. So when CM Punk arrived, he instantly wanted to remove all traces of the past so people won't say:

"Hey, that CM Punk guy is new. Where's he from? Oh, that's right, he's from Ring of Honor... lets go check that out"

Vince is completely ruthless, just like how he didn't acknowledge WCW for years until kayfabe became blurred and he had too. Thats why when people like Paul London and Spanky debutted, they weren't wrestlers from ROH or anywhere else, they were local wrestlers who wanted one shot at the big time.

Vince has the monopoly, and he wants to keep it that way.

Well it will be a conspiracy until Vince admits to it.

And Vince may have the monopoly, but he'll lose the viewers if he continues like this. And i am very close to never watching the WWE again.

Well it does matter because CM Punk has got a fanbase now from that gimmick, and the people have connected with him through it,now when you change a gimmick thats popular& change it to a gimmick such as this on top of that,, your seriously risking pissing off the fans that know him under that gimmick.

I don't know him that well, but he seems popular on this board so i'm guessing he's well known outside of WWE.

I'd really like to see some of his matches, especially those against Raven when beer was pour down his throat against his will. If anyone can get hold of anything to do with Punk and his matches and post them, then I'd really appreciate it.

Well for starters it would be watered down which would have the majority of indy fans crying rape. "Oh my God what the fuck have they done with his character" or "meh, it was better in ROH", he won't be in the main event for obvious reasons and he won't be able to use some of his moves especially the Pepsi plunge.

Foley details an experience that happened to him when he joined the WWF in 'Have a Nice Day' which is very similar to this. Basically, he'd been Cactus Jack for years and had adapted and very convincing and powerful character. He wanted to stay as Jack and couldn't see why Vince wanted to give him a god awful 'Mason the Mutilator' (later changed into Mankind) gimmick.

But to his credit, Foley took it as a challenge. He worked with it and evolved into one of the most successful gimmicks to date. CM Punk should be able to do the same, and what has already been suggested - that one day he reveales its a swerve and a hoax - would be a great idea for the future if he catches on in the big leagues.

SuperSlim 08-05-2005 10:35 AM

So what, its going to be watered down? So what, indy fans will cry rape? Indy fans cry rape at everything the WWE do, why should either party care about this? Indy fans will continue not to watch WWE television and WWE would have a wrestler with a gimmick which has been a proven hit in smaller territories. It's worth taking the risk, especially since they'll only be upsetting a bunch of inbreed ROH fans who hate their guts anyway.

He's either well known in the mainstream or he's not, we need to get this clear before we start discussing it.

The fact that the WWE are changing his gimmick is neither here no there, it was bound to happen. TNA didn't use him exclusively in his straight edge gimmick. In fact they almost had him cry on screen "Raven we need you sob sob".

CM Punk is a good, intelligent wrestler, if anyone can pull off a stupid gimmick to perfection, it's him.

No, its not groundbreaking. It's just something that I'd like to see more of. Personally, I hate the majority of straight-edge kids. Fair play for resisting temptation and fighting off the urges that come with peer pressure and modern day societal pressures, but it's their inflated sense of superiority and their desire to tell just about everyone how marvellous they are.

So, I'd love to see someone like that get the crap beaten out of them every week. For me, he's the perfect heel.

Hopefully it will take off. But if it doesn't (how many deaf wrestler gimmicks are there afterall?) then he can either pull off that 'it was all a hoax' idea or go to OVW and come back with a new gimmick. By then, at least by WWE's logic, we'll all have forgotten about his old 'deaf' gimmick.

The writers knew what they were doing? All respect to the previous writing team, but putting the charismatic Mick Foley in a custome that, by his words, made him look like a 'giant poop' and making him talk out of a boiler room probably wasn't the soundest gimmick ever.

The WWE did get very lucky with Eugene. They tweaked the character a few weeks in just at the right time before it started getting offensive. Eugene is a tremendous gimmick, which also owes a lot of its success to how much of a talented man Nick Dinsmore is. You can't put any old wrestler in something as sensitive as this and expect it to succeed.

thecc 08-05-2005 11:20 AM

If I can figure out how to rip dvds I can rip the dog collar match with raven. I think Punk is an extremely talented wrestler and as much as I hate this gimmick I have faith in Punk and that he will make the best of it. Hey also maybe he could be deaf and straight edge:shifty:.

What i meant was they probably knew how to pull it off and you would've had faith back then for them to do so, now its like we expect them to fail.

Chavo Classic 08-05-2005 11:27 AM

True. If we were all smarks on an internet forum back in the mid 90s (the peak of ridiculous gimmicks) this would be an everyday occurance. You just don't expect it now.

Maybe it's a self fulfilling prophecy. We think Punk is going to fail, so we bitch and moan about the gimmick and we don't watch and support him or buy his merch, and then the WWE thinks it isn't catching on so they pull the plug. Then we'll all be sad, pretty much like with what has happened with Hassan. I know I'm not the only one who misses him.

Chavo Classic 08-05-2005 11:28 AM

...and Mordecai. We were all too busy whinging that we didn't take enough attention, and one day, he's jobbing to a hat in OVW.

It was a good idea. Some crazy lunatic religious guy who beat on everyone who sinned. It's just that they took it too seriously and made me walk out to scary music. It'd be nice to see him played in a similar sort of way to (speak of the devil) CM Punk, who is frustrated by the sinful world around him and wants to take matters into his own hands.

I still remember the boring chants in that match.

Chavo Classic 08-05-2005 11:44 AM

I was in the pisser, or getting more pringles from the kitchen... i forget which

Corkscrewed 08-05-2005 11:47 AM

wow, hot topic

I think it can work, and it's the sort of thing they can renege (sp?) upon relatively easily.

Like a few people have said, if he's that good, he can do this. It's got the potential to be pretty entertaining.

and I downloaded that match of Mordecai vs. S2H from teh PPV. only because I wanted a match with him in it. :p

Chavo Classic 08-05-2005 11:49 AM

It definately has its advantages - like him not hearing the ref during matches or stumbling through interviews with a frustrated Coach. But it's just me, but I don't want to see another comedy character, especially with someone as respected and idolised as Punk.

I have faith enough in the WWE that if they decide someone's too green and pop him down to OVW, it's probably because they ARE too green.

What I saw was garbage, and I didn't buy him in the gimmick anyway. He looked like a frustrated D&D geek who's angry at the world...

...And I should know...We can smell our own. ;)

Being deaf is sometimes reversible, I should know. The question is, will the WWE be able to take it back without being totally stupid?

I know the answer to that one.

no.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Now that thats out of my system, if anyone can make this good, it's Punk. I mean in ROH he can cut a quick promo and have the crowd hate him just like that. For close to two years he was the most hated guy before becoming the top face in the company. Even if he is gonna be deaf, HE IS STILL BETTER THAN YOU

Innovator 08-05-2005 12:32 PM

btw I don't see a link to it on PWInsider

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Well at least he'll be getting paid better.

If he was so smart, he would know what he was getting into when he signed that contract.

MVP 08-05-2005 12:59 PM

I weep for any remaining dignity he'll have after WWE.

BigDaddyCool 08-05-2005 01:03 PM

Didn't CM Punk quit wrestling when Candito died?

The One 08-05-2005 01:28 PM

He was talking out of hurt...

Just like people here who seem to be so butt hurt they are done watching wrestlign forever. Hey guys look at it this way. CM Punk has busted his ass right? Hell yeah. So let him come up to WWE, do whatever shit gimmick they give him, if he makes it work then yeah he has a million dollar plus contract, if he doesn't make it work, that's too bad, but at least he had a year where he was getting paid more money then he would on the indies to work 2 or 3 days a week instead of 6 or 7. He is released and goes back to doing what he was doing before only with a little more money and a better rested body.

Win-Win if you ask me.
