X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse
Bought last night at 1 am, gonna play today. Standards pros/cons review format to follow.
The last was one of my all time fav.s so please tell me if it half as good or better (leaning towards better) so I can go out and get ti or not.
I wanna get the first one.
Still haven't played it yet. They said it's like Gauntlet. :?: |
do you like the X-men g?
The only X-Men game I liked was the 4 player old school arcade one.
Also, when saying my name, capitalization is a must. GOT IT PUNK.
:( |
Suck it, DICK! Now G, (happy) if you like anything X-men related BUY THIS! Its great, the story walks the lines of the comic books but takes it in a fresh direction and the game play is immersing. Solid title.
Yeah, it's like Gauntlet avec X-Men, only better.

Pro's and Cons. |
Cons: Graphics still shit.
They still have like, really gay continuity of dialogue. You'll be Magneto and he'll be talking to professor X about WHY Magneto is working with the X Men. And whenever you want to learn something new, you have to go through all this shit you already knew. And it's all hilarious things like "Who are the Brotherhood?" "What's an X Man?" "Are you an X Man?" :nono: Really, it's not about pros and cons... it's some mindless fun and once again, all I'm doing is maxing out Cyclops's beam so that it destroys everything, and the game is easy as shit. But yeah, it's not the deepest or best game, but it's definitely a keeper. The real test comes in replayability. The first one was pathetic in that regard. Like they basically destroyed the game if you beat it. Huge waste of money. |
I still haven't completed the first one yet.
Neither have I, yet I'm getting the new one this week.
The first game was great and so far, the second one is, too. Granted I've only had it for two days and my opportunities to play it have been rare, but I'm loving it so far. And I just love the "roster" updates they made in this game.
Is the first one $20 yet? If so I might have to pick it up.
Yeah, I got it at work a few months back right when it hit $19.99.
Hot diggity.
Yeah, this game is pretty good.
PROS: - More characters than the last game. That's always good. What's even better is that there is a bigger variety of powers and abilities amongst the roster this time. Also, Magneto and Juggernaut. - More powers per character. Last time, everyone had 2 attack powers, a super move, 2 or 3 passive shits and a status booster and that's it. This time everyone has a crapload of moves, passive upgrades and 2 supermoves. Some of them can even create helper minions. - Better use of X-traction points. Now you can travel between any points you have visited. Really good for if you miss any of the shitloads of hidden stuff they put in this game. Also, the blink portal/hub system is kinda cool. It's not like the X-Men get to go straight home after every mission in the comics, so why not in the game too? - The item system is much improved. Last game, finding useful regular items was practcally impossible. I think I got like 3 nanofiber armor thingies the entire game. Pretty useless, IMO. Now drops are more frequent and supposedly randomized. The rare itens are no longer "super" versions of the regular stuff, but are now more like Diablo II in their naming conventions and functions. Like you can get Astonishing Bands of Health, which are arm bands that add electric damage and give an HP bonus. There are also character specific items (Hammer of Rogue, Waistband of Juggernaut,) and unique items like in the last game. - Flying characters can float for more than 3 seconds now. Before, you had to max out their flying stat or they'd use EP so fast that they could be in the air for a second. You still can't use powers in the air but, oh well. - Resistances to damage types are more obvious now. They actually show you what you are resistant to in the team management menu. - Environments look better than the last game. Yup. - You have more freedom to complete objectives. Yeah, after the main mission is done, you get an optional submission that offers more experience and levelling up. - The map is more useful, buy making visited areas white and unknown areas red. CONS: - As Alphabean said, the character graphics are still kinda bland. Slightly improved, but bland. On the plus side, you get costume options at the X-traction points. I'm guessing more are unlocked after you beat the game (like in the first one), since you only get one alternate costume (Iceman has none, though). - The AI got dumber. Enemies don't run away or open doors and bumrush you as much as they did last game. Also, your partners are slow responding to commands too. If someone is getting overwhelmed and I call for a temporary retreat, they don't always follow me, so I have to go in and save their stupid ass. Also, if I tell them to attack a particular target, they delay, which results in... - Combos are harder to execute. That split second delay throws off the team's timing, and keeps me from reaping in that extra experience from the leadership stats. Also, the voice that yells "combo!" when you do it is annoying. Speaking of annoying voices, Grizzly and Sabretooth. :nono: More to come, I guess. |
The secret missions unlocked via "homing beacons" I never used the first one. Now after (spoiler), I can't go back and use the first one :'(
Also, my AI characters don't follow me when I jump up onto ledges. Also... can you carry people with flight? I can't seem to get Rogue to pick anyone up this time around. :( |
Gonna go get the first one tomorrow sonnnnnnnnnnn.
PS: Enemies do not spawn, therefore you cannot "level up" the shit out of your players, until you start using the danger room. Before, the enemies just kept coming. Now, they're finite. :(

You sure? I think I remember, like, on the boat where they never stop coming, and every time you go back through a place on a re-play, more dudes show up. Like, it gets fucking tedious when you have to change boards just to stash some gear, then come back to pick it up and it's like walking alone in a cave for 10 minutes, looking for shit. Very boring.
Though LOL I did that in one of the missions... one particular scene had like 10 different pieces of gear that I had to leave behind. Was wicked. So I had to return to scour the place, but it was worthi t. |
I dont remember many spawning points. I remember killing off all the enemies and going.... FUCK!, their all dead.
Yeah? Could have sworn that the astral plane had some monsters spawning...
Dunno, maybe I'm just remembering the danger room missions, and I haven't unlocked enough yet to really start pimping everyone out. |
Yeah, in the Astral plain they would spawn in front of you until you had killed enough of them, and then they would stop coming.
I'd like to face a lot more though, that's all.
More is better.
More=more XP and that=happy. |

Can you be Magneto right off the bat in this game?

Also, Sunfire is quite badass. And Colossus actually has defence this time around. Last game he was by far the strongest melee character, but had absolutely no defence.
I'm guessing Juggernaut will get the lack of defense this time around.

Just like before, Cyclops is the only character you need. Optic Beam and Mutant Master maxed out = pretty much unstoppable.
I'm the same way with Wolverine. Max out Regeneration and his basic claw attack, and I just tear through drones like Kleenex at a snot party.
I side with the both of ya, use Wolverine and Cyclops as a tag team. No one is gonna stop ya.
Is Magama in this one? She was a bad mother fucker in the last.

Quote:
And he has a straight punch for knockback and an uppercut for maximum damage/pop up. |
Colossus is by far the greatest character of the game.
WOW, towards the end of Act 2, the drops go from being mostly shit to mostly amazing.
so this game is worth purchasing?
Yeah, if you like the first one, you'll like this one.
I don't know what to do. I have so many items I can't possibly sell them all or distribute or stash them. I don't know what to do. :(
Anyway, I hate the auto-equip, it always takes away Cyclops' rare visor and replaces it with something stupid. Also, I HATE Holocaust in this. He's nothing. And what's worse is that he has a normal dude's voice. Nothing at all intimidating. Then, nobody has a spooky voice. Not Apoc, not Sinister, not Holocaust. And Holocaust DOES NOT HAVE A MOUTH. In the comics, he just speaks psionically. God damn it. I had such high expectations. It would be awesome if in the 3rd, you can be villains, or have the AoA storyline. BUT FOR A PRO since I give nothing but cons... if you go back to a really old level, you can do it all over again -- respawning and all. Schweet. |
is this game like an RPG like Final Fantasy or is it more like that game "Gaunlet Legends" for N64. I love that style so much better.
More like Gauntlet. You level up and equip things, but you're basically running around and beating the crap out of soldiers and monsters and mutants in real-time.
oh ok. That's what I like. I hate where you are just standing there choosing options like FF. I will rent this game over the weekend probably.
thanks. |

I'm in New York now and it CONSTANTLY freezes. Christ. :( I am looking forward to Iron Man and Deadpool, but apparently I can't get past fucking NYC.
Anyway... have any tips on how the hell I'm supposed to win the danger room challenge for teamwork? It's impossible to do anything. :( |
Quote:
Also :wtf: @ the freezing. Never happens to me... except in Day of Reckoning 2. |
I will rent it Funky Fly and not only am I not going to beat it, but I will just stare at the box the entire 3 days. How do you like that?
How long is the game Funky (hour wise)?
If you're playing it to beat it I'm sure you could get through it in a weekend.
Though if you want to be thorough and level everyone up equally and whatnot, it might take a little bit longer. Plus the replay value = Prof X, Iron Man, Deadpool. |
Wait wait wait...so if you beat the game and unlock all the characters you can replay the game with the unlocked characters and leveled up people?
All of the characters are playable from the start, except for the three secret players, whom you unlock upon completing the game.
As for the leveled-up characters... I think you can replay with them? I'm not sure. I haven't been able to complete yet. :( Keeps freezing. Breaks muh heart. |
You get Deadpool by beating it. As for Iron Man, I reckon unlocking him has something to do with all the fucking homing beacons and pieces of his armor I keep finding. As for Xavier, I heard he's unlocked by beating all the Danger Room discs (meaning I won't unlock him till I play this with other people so I can finish those damn teamwork discs).
Right... and you won't get Iron Man or ProX until way late, so basically "end of the game."
ROFL so I finally did get past the NYC thing... I just switched into Magneto and zoomed through it. For some reason it's just South NYC that freezes on me. :'( |
I am at act 5. I should probably finish this shit.
LOL I unlocked Iron Man, but en route all of my players magically disappeared in the final secret area :?: It was hilarious. But anyway, so I played my game and my bro came over with his memory card... put it in the ps2, loaded up his game and lo and behold, Iron Man is accessible for him, even though he hadn't even beaten Sugar Man yet? :?:
It's cool though. ROFL though, at the typos in the dialogue. Horrible, like they hired HS students to write it. |
Another ROFL moment... after getting Colossus up to about 30ish, and doing his Challenge, he's now 1000 attack 1000 defense, with a HP regen to boot. :wtf:
He's unstoppable. |
I know, it's ridiculous. All my guys are like 45 or better and he's 29 and owns them all.
45 or better? :wtf:
My best is Cyclops at 42... because he's always in, and due to Flawless Tactics  200% XP. Anyway, beat it... the final battle is pretty fucking sweet, but hectic and confusing. The aftermath is kinda... :nono: and when you get back, it's hilarious... you go to ProfX and he says "Hello again," then you ask about Angel and Beast. WTF. No "Good job saving the world" or anything. Same shit. Could you imagine how easily they could add to the replay value of the game, if they were to (like Pokemon) just add stronger and stronger baddies to fight throughout the game? Like, Xavier says "Good job with Apocalypse, but our job is never done! There are splinter cells and remnants of Apocalypse's army still out there, and it's your job to finish them off while collecting any items you have missed!" :nono: |
Yeah, I was doing the danger room missions, plus having Magneto and Cyclops = double leadership.
Danger Room IMO sucks for all that; which one would you recommend?
I just did all the onesI could actually complete. Those fucking teamwork ones are killing me. Also, since I haven't completed them, I can just keep doing runs killing slews of enemies.
LOL the "keep Havok alive" one is hell, too. The guards with the huge axes, they are vicious. One hit kills him. You need to corrale him into a corner, but he's too stupid to do that.
But yea I gotta do that. In 1 I always leveled the shit out of people in the danger room, but now... :$ LOL Iron Man's turret is so awesome. Just drop one of those and fly around for a while. And Deadpool, He has regen and teleport and a sword attack and guns. The guns are so hot, and the sword attack is just as vicious as Nightcrawler's...! Plus he's kind of funny. Anyway... yeah as the game progressed later and later, I came to realize how much better it is than the first. Not as many complaints. The horrible lapses in continuity and logic can be accepted, since all in all it was a very valiant attempt at a plot. But my idea for a replay system (which would have been SO EASY to program), would have made it even better. |

Just got Prof X, here is my tip for the teamwork missions:
I had to man two controllers at once, but it still wasn't that difficult. Get two people with a radial attacks (I used Ice Man & Jean Grey) stand them side by side and push their respective mutant attack at the same time, Its easier than it sounds but extremely gay. Oh well, got all the characters though. I'm fixing to go though it on hard. :D |
Once you finish the game can you replay it with all your leveled up characters and with the secret characters?
yes.
For Prof X do you have to get Vibranium on all the Danger Room missions?
Also, grabbing + throwing for Batter Up! is the easiest way to get the teamwork ones... LOL except for the easiest one, where it's all Cerci. Can't throw them. :( |
No, you just have to get basic completion on all missions. I didn't get Vibranium on the final teamwork. :( But it didn't matter so :)
Can't get any CDs from Forge so I gotta gameFAQ any that I missed.
Also, does anyone else find it impossible to defeat Sugarman on Legend? I mean, it's possible to DEFEAT him, but under 3 minutes? Are you serious? :nono: |
I beat him in 30 seconds, your guys must not be leveled up to well.
LOL :shifty:
No need to level anyone up when you have Cyclops. :$ |
Cyclops is the shit. I had him at level 53, Wolverine level 50, Jean Grey level 48, Iron Man level 40. It was a cake walk.
lol, not even all of my guys are at 40 yet. In fact, only a few are :$
In the first one, I leveled the shit out of everyone. I think I got Cyclops pushing 80 when I finished the game, this time he was at 40. :'(
He is almost unfuckwitable at level 40 anyhow.
So long as you run 'n' gun. He's not quite a "one-hit kill" kinda guy. Though it's easy to be a pimp when you're Cyclops... because he only has 1-2 worthwhile moves to level up; he's got the optic blast which rules, but the optic slam is just useless when you have the blast. The radiation beam is weak, esp. if you put on a radiation gear; that gives you leave to put on leadership, mutant master, visor upgrade, and flawless tactics (which in retrospect wasn't the greatest idea... should have just spent it on some passive trait).
Either way, he's good shit with maxed out mutant master and visor upgrade and so on. He just blasts the shit out of you nonstop. |
Fucking Prof X. Only character you can't AoA. :'( Why can't they just turn him into a skeleton or something? Or an awesome psionic being like Holocaust?
How useless. Though his energy bolt is pretty hottt... OH AND PS. I didn't get Phoenix's Disc until after I beat the game, and now it doesn't even fucking have any attributes on it. My game just keeps glitching nonstop. |
X is a bad ass. The radial move where it pulls the enemies into the air and cause bleed damage makes him unstoppable and a great support character for Cyclops. The special where he revives all fallen allies and resurrects fallen enemies as allies for a short time is equally impressive.
Don't fallen enemies usually disappear?
Also, LOL I tried doing it after I fell to my death with Cyclops. Couldn't exactly revive a dude at the bottom of a gorge. :$ |
I guess you would have to be quick to get the enemies on your side, that or I read it wrong and it turn enemies into allies, I'll check later. LOL @ the gorge bit. I don't see anyone getting up from that. Reading though your post your game has a lot of bugs, what system are you playing on. I'm on the GC version.
*side note* The PC version has two extra characters. Sabertooth and Pyro. |
Quote:
Pyro is useless with Sunfire around. It would be pretty crazy with Wolverine AND Sabretooth though. Imagine an all bruiser team with Wolverine, Sabretooth, Colossus and Rogue/Juggernaut. Juggernaut sucks tho. No defence whatsoever. |
Is Juggernaut stronger than Coloussus though?
Basically it adds options for the Brotherhood of evil. Magneto, Sabertooth, Toad, Pyro, Scarlet Witch, and Jugernaut with +15% experience wouldn't be a bad thing.
Raven Knights is the best team to take, imo. +60% tech bit drops goes a long way (Ice Man, Prof X, Iron Man, Dead Pool.) Brusier Brigade isn't bad either (Wolverine, Colosus, Jugarnaut, Rogue.) +20 energy per knock out is cool im my book. |
I go AoA all the way.
WTF does Raven Knights mean? Anyway, Juggs has defense if you pump up that balance att or whatever. I mean, he's not in the 1500 range like Colossus, but he's still no waif. Seriously though, why is Colossus so hardcore? Is it because he died? :'( |
Colossus died? When?
He was going into a burning building trying to save people when the building collapsed on him, great death. I'm pretty sure he died sometime in the late 80's early 90's, not sure though.
But he's colossus, he can't die.
Though he is a tough bastard, he isn't impervious. Best death a Super Hero ever had imo.
If Gambit is dead i'll kill someone. Those are my two favorite xmen.
IS GAMBIT DEAD? |
Gambit lives.
You're fucking right he lives. Which other xmen has died?
Quote:
Colossus actually a few years ago. He sacrificed himself to destroy the Legacy Virus. He made his return recently in the pages of Astonishing X-men. Be lucky Mitchanthropic hasn't seen this yet. He'll probably have an anuerism. |
WTF is the legacy virus and how did he sacrifice himself to destroy it? Which other xmen are dead?
Can you play as all the bosses and minions in the versus mode, like in the last game?
Jean Grey died at the end of the Phoenix storyline, and has been dead every since. Really added some depth to Cyclops.
