Haystacks was a huge box office draw back when wrestling was a regional thing. He was never a main event, but always a solid draw. He was just a big hill billy.
He made a lot of money for Vincent James McMahon when he wrestled up in the New York area. He was a solid draw for them when the WWWF was a floundering company.
His gimmick was emulated by Hall of Famer Hillbilly Jim, and the way he was booked worked for an icon of the industry, the first Hall of Famer, Andre The Giant. |
