Do you still buy physical formats of music?
 

CDs, Vinyls, Cassettes or even 8 tracks. Do you still prefer purchasing physicals formats of your favourite artists' works? Feel free to post your opinions.

I haven't bought a CD other than a friends band or something in years now. Haven't used a physical CD from my collection in a long time either.

I do occasionally rock out with some vinyl in a comfy chair though.

Yes. CDs. I love owning the tangible object. Nice shiney case. Booklets. The discs. I dunno, guess I have so many (about 1,200) that it just feels right to keep buying them. It also means I own that particular music (not 'own' as in, legal copyright business).

I mean you could download shit loads of music, and have your computer crash and lose it all or something. Plus there's also so many albums I'm after from older artists that you can get shit loads of CDs on Ebay cheap and stuff.

I've about 600-700 cds gathering dust I'd say. A wiser man would sell them but the thought of that effort is disgusting.

Haven't bought a CD since maybe the time WWF released the 3 disc Anthology set and that was because of being a member of Colombia House when they had the "Buy 1 CD, Get 4-6 free" deal for new members.

not really. i bought a copy of the jam's greatest hits from a charity shop last week, but that's the first thing i've bought in years. went through a period in 2001-2003 of buying a shitload though.

Just "got rid of" like 300 of my 350 DVDs and just downloaded them instead.

I buy them every now and then. Mostly to support underground bands.
I buy vinyl mostly. I like the way it sounds.
I keep cd's mostly to emotional attachment. Just good memories of the phase I was in when I was really into music.

Yes, even though I don't buy "anything that's decent for cheap" anymore I enjoy having a CD Collection of albums I enjoy and even though I download albums often, I do buy albums from absolute favorite bands and random bands I enjoy if I see a good deal and my mood is good.

I will always buy Marilyn Manson, NIN and Tool releases for example.

I prefer to buy physical CD's. I like the feel of the actual CD in my hand. I enjoy looking at the artwork in the jacket and all of that stuff.

I'll buy vinyl if I really want to listen to an album and if it's a band I love - otherwise it's all on the iTunes store.

I buy CD-R's to play in my car :-\

I have so many Cassettes and CDs. I still buy Indian Electronica/Indian Rock CDs since they are rare and hard to find over the internet.

I have a few old Indian Cinema Gramophone Records and I personally like the way they sound as compared to CDs. I am planning to invest in a decent turntable once I settle down in the United-States.

I love my CDs and will continue to buy them.

If you want to go into archive work (like me), it is advantagious to be able to read Latin.

you should pick up drums also, instead of poncy keyboard and mandolin. having the worst time ever with drummers right now.

EVdI judging by the Aerosmith on the top shelf, and the Megadeth followed by Metallica, I'm guessing your CD's are in alphabetical, chronological order. Like mine. :)

I also have a box full of CDs which has already been taped up and put in storage (moving abroad in a few weeks, and gotta leave my CDs behind).

They are indeed in alphabetical order. And woe betide those that would mess with them!

Very rarely. Usually only box sets. Like I got the Doors' Perception set a couple of months ago but that was as much for the box content as much as it was owning physical copies of all the albums.

Every once in a while to support my favorite bands.

mine is like 3 shelves and i probably listen to about half a shelf of it :'(

the convenience of just plugging my 1.5TB harddrive into the USB slot of my 46" LCD TV and having all the movies and shows i've downloaded at my fingertips from my remote, rather than having to swap discs in a DVD player is such a huge convenience.

Same thing with music on my iphone. Who would want to carry around a huge portable disc player? Do they even sell those anymore? If you are copying the CDs music to your mp3 player, then what is the point of that?

I can understand if you want to buy the artwork and what not, but having something just for the sake of having a "tangible object" just seems silly to me. If you want to support the band you can do so through itunes.

CDs/DVDs are a waste of space, time, convenience and (if you don't mind illegaly downloading the stuff) money.

Yes, but not all albums. I have a ton of records purchased through eMusic, and I'll purchase more. But some artists, I'd rather have the CD, or I want the artwork, or even the extras. It depends on the price, too. If it's gonna run me six bucks in download credit or 20 bucks for a CD, I'm going with the download.

I usually wait for the CD to lower in price. There's only a couple of bands where I would spend the full price if they have released a new album.

Aye. You can go to somewhere like Fopp and buy albums for £5. Amazon usually have deals, and you can buy albums second hand if they are in good condition.
