The WCW Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship
 

Is it true that the big gold designs for the WCW title belt and the World Heavyweight title belt had significant differences?

By the WCW Championship I mean this belt (I believe the belt was also referred to as the World Championship after the Alliance lost to the WWF at Survivor Series)

Other than the obvious WWE logo above "World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion" on the top of the belt, the WWE version has a curved design while the WCW design was flat and seems like the WWE verison is more yellow than the WCWs. Other than that, name plate fonts etc.

The WHC is also smaller than the WCW Championship.

The WHC is about 4 inches shorter in length and about half an inch shorter in height.

what about the red ruby's. The WHC has them, not sure if the WCW does

Maybe the WCW title pic is not very flattering but I see the WWE version is vastly better.

It technically is. It's streamlined and modernized, but I still prefer the WCW title.

Is it just me or is the WCW title the Rock is holding in that pic slightly different than the WCW World title that was used before the company folded? The belt the Rock is holding looks curved much like the WWE WHC and looks much smaller than the WCW World title.

Maybe this was due to when Vince changed the name from the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to simply the WCW Champion?

It was a different belt than the one Flair's holding here:

So obviously WCW changed it at some point. If I had to guess, they got a new one after Hogan held it, since he spray painted it:

And the current WHC has gone through some change over the years. It's definitely gotten smaller since it was given to Hunter.

Or maybe the wrestlers got bigger?

I always loved the Original Big Gold belt. Much more elaborate work on the engraving and details than the later versions.

Anyone know if they used a secondary belt for the spray painting or if that was the original belt?

I'd have thought/hoped that they painted on a replica rather than the original belt.

I love the N.W.O spray painted belt. Best belt ever.

I also love that Hogan, while being the leader of the group, was so out of touch with the "coolness" of the nWo that he spray painted the "upper case/lower case" ordering of the letters on the belt incorrectly.

How much do either belts weigh? It's gotta suck holding two championships and having to travel with both belts.

Well, the full sized adult replica is about 6 pounds according to Amazon. So figure the real one is up to double that. Probably 8-10 pounds.

Remember how truly out of touch he was, when at Bash at the Beach, when the nWo formed, he called them the "New World Organization" of wrestling? I always found that funny.

I honestly don't believe they had come up with the name at that point, I think it actually came from Hogans promo.

I like the old WCW title that looked like the Winged Eagle belt WWE used to have alot better then the big gold belt.
