What happened between HBK and the Rock?

I was reading where HBK wanted to make amends with the Rock. I must have missed something what happened?

Skip to 4:17 .... this granted was about ten years ago.... but it doesn't seem like they have heat.

Sixx 10-03-2010 03:37 PM

The Rock didn't call like he promised.

It doesn't matter if you lost your smile!

Real classy wad of chew and spitting into the cup the whole interview.

The Naitch 10-03-2010 07:47 PM

I thought it was because when Rock was still green, Shawn used to give him attitude. Rock disliked him ever since

The MAC 10-05-2010 08:39 AM

Rocky was trying hard to be friends with everyone but HHH and Shawn didn't like him no matter what they were booking at the time and even booked Bret to beat Rocky for his intercontinental belt.

The would have taken bret out of the world title picture and held down Rocky as well but Bret had it changed to a DQ and Rocky kept his belt.

Aguakate 10-06-2010 01:44 AM

...They have no heat...IDK if they did, but they don't now:

The Naitch 10-06-2010 03:30 PM

hmm interesting. Hatchet's been buried

The Naitch 10-06-2010 03:32 PM

So I guess it started off where Rock idolized him, then finding out he's a dick, then hating him, then burying the hatchet after Shawn made his return in 2002

Aguakate 10-06-2010 07:24 PM

...You can TELL John Cena would LOVE to wrestle The Rock...when Rock mentions him, u can read in his lips that he said "Anytime, man...Anytime".

...Thing is, I don't know if Cena wants to wrestle him because he's a fan of The Rock's (I don't think that's it)...Or if he wants to go over The Rock and have that in his resumé (Could be)...Or if he REALLY feels The Rock is a "sell-out) and wants to get in some "free shots" during a promo between the two or something.

The Naitch 10-06-2010 07:31 PM

I think people "hating" Rock for selling out is pretty overrated. If anything, it's beneficial for guys like Cena/HBK etc, since it frees up main event space

Aguakate 10-06-2010 07:37 PM

...Cena and HBK were going to be main event players regardless.

MoFo 10-07-2010 05:00 PM

HBK tried to get Triple H the push that The Rock recieved in late '98, going to Vince to try and persuade him. Thats the story I read anyway.

He did what so many people do and branched out and became bigger in another form of work that doesn't have a horrible schedule, as well as makes much more money.

Anybody in his shows would have done the same thing.

As was already mentioned, Shawn Michaels acted very arrogantly towards The Rock during his formative years (partly due to his bias towards Hunter, and party due to the fact that HBK felt threatened by The Rock's potential). Having said that, Shawn admittedly had a lot of problems back then and was being an 'a-hole' to pretty much everyone.

Is it any surprise that once HBK submitted himself to Christianity, he became an entirely different person? From what I understand, HBK and The Rock are on good terms now...and it's not just for the cameras.

The Rock would improvise the finish and knock him out, then dust off Cena's hat, turn it sideways, and proceed to shove it straight up his candy ASS! Then go for the 1-2-3.

BollywoodSingh 10-19-2010 10:47 PM

I believe The Rock also had a problem with Michaels' unprofessional antics in his match with Hogan at Summerslam 2005. I think The Rock said he wouldn't wrestle HBK because of his behaviour in that match.

The Naitch 10-19-2010 10:51 PM

what happened during that match? Didn't catch it

It's worth noting that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Shawn Michaels, who long harbored animosity towards each other, crossed paths during WrestleMania weekend. WWE.com published a photo of Johnson and Michaels sharing a laugh shortly after HBK had appeared on stage at WrestleMania XXVII to commemorate his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. According to F4WOnline.com, their past animosity was actually settled in 2008 when Johnson inducted his father, Rocky Johnson, and grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Johnson's issues with Michaels dated back to when he was a teenager. He long harbored animosity towards Michaels because he felt he was disrespectful to his maternal grandmother (Lia Maivia) at a wrestling show she was coordinating for Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling. His disrespect towards her incensed Johnson, and nearly led to an altercation.

Their issues persisted several years later when Johnson was a rookie starting out in WWE. Bret Hart wrote in his 2007 autobiography, Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling, that Michaels and Triple H disliked Johnson "intensely." Both resented him because he was talented and Hart, a political foe, had taken a shine to him. Many believe they were out to sabotage Johnson so that Hunter would ascend to the top before him, since they were both viewed as the future of the company at the time.

Michaels and Hunter conspired to obstruct Johnson's push in March 1997, who was the Intercontinental Champion at the time. Michaels suggested to Vince McMahon that Johnson lose the title to Hart on an episode of Raw. Meanwhile, Hunter insisted to Hart that he beat Johnson. Their suggestion would serve two purposes — sabotage Johnson's push and take Hart out of the world title scene. Hart, however, refused to beat Johnson. Hart felt it wouldn't build heat for his newly launched heel turn, not to mention that it would undermine Johnson. Instead, Hart insisted on a DQ finish, which infuriated Michaels and Hunter.

By 1999, Johnson had ascended to the top of WWE, going beyond nearly wrestler, including Hunter. Meanwhile, a back injury had forced Michaels to retire and he was relegated to sporadic appearances. Nonetheless, Michaels attempted to politically undermine Johnson by lobbying to McMahon that he be replaced by Hunter in the main event at WrestleMania XV. His suggestion fell on deaf ears.

Johnson stated years later in a 2005 interview with WWE.com that he never had interest in working with Michaels — when asked if he would have liked to.

LOL. Hunter and Michaels...What a pair of bitchy little girls.

DAMN iNATOR 04-15-2011 01:24 PM

The Rock stole all of Shawn's hand-designed outfits and made him jealous that he fit them better than Shawn by e-mailing "pics" to him. :shifty:

Michaels is the man and Rock is a bitch. /thread
