Clothesline/Lariat
Out of curiousity what is the difference between a clothesline and a lariat?
|
A Lariat usually involves both people in motion and an arm-swinging motion, where as a clothesline only the recepient is moving and the aggressor doesn't really move his arm.....
|
Lariats tend to look more powerful and stronger, JBL's Clothesline From Hell is more of a lariat.
|
It's always been my assumption that a clothesline is more stationary, either standing or running. Like the person delivering the move will keep there arm straight and stiff, and run it into the opponent.
A lariat on the other hand, is more like JBL, Stan Hansen, etc, where they're swinging there arm hard at the person. Does that makes sense? |
Although honestly, they're probably identical.
|
The names, at this point, are interchangeable.
Hell, even "Clothesline from Hell" is technically wrong. |
Yeah, kind of what WWKD said, a lariat is more of a 'gonna twat you as hard as I can' type deal and a line is pretty much running your bicep/forearm across a guys chest.

If you watch this and you can't tell the difference, I dunno...

It's also the difference between a standard move and a finisher. A clothesline is not an acceptable finisher, but a lariat is.
Sort of like how Jake Roberts DDT is a finisher but for everybody else it'ss a mid-match move even though the name is the same. The Lariat also involves some sort of launching, and/or the leaving of the feet of the deliever. A John Cena clothesline doesn't mean John Cena falls down, but a Murder by Lariat means that Skip Sheffield is falling down after delivering it. |
Yeah, the "follow through" (Did Sid ever use a Lariat?) is what makes the lariat look harder than a clothesline, as if the guy is putting his whole body behind the move.
|
Cena does a standard clothesline where his arm doesn't move.
Stan Hansen looks to take your fucking head off. Theres the difference. |
In a clothesline you are running into a stationary object (outstretched arm)
A Lariat is a clubbing motion with the arm. |
