Daniel Bryan - Ladies Man

According to Ryan Clark, there are going to be more segments like Monday night's where DBD gets it going with the divas.

I hope Dean Malenko is the agent behind this gimmick. He was the best ladies man - even better than the World's Largest Love Machine.

My only guess would be that this will help get him over or they are going with the always popular "Adam Ryland Effect" Gimmick.

Innovator 10-20-2010 03:49 PM

I wish they had a PIP camera on Gabe Sapolsky watching that segment.

I imagine he would be happy for his former worker/friend to be on the flagship show in professional wrestling and getting to act like a dork with a bunch of hot bitches while getting over and making a good chunk of money.

XL 10-20-2010 04:45 PM

I gotta say, I was happy with the segment. I'm kinda digging the "dork that can still beat the shit out of you" gimmick and that exemplified it perfectly.

BollywoodSingh 10-20-2010 04:47 PM

I prefer they would just make him a killer wrestling machine that doesn't act so goofy.

Londoner 10-20-2010 04:48 PM

"Dashing" Daniel Bryan?

In all honesty, Daniel Bryan doesn't have the physique to pull that gimmick off in WWE on a global level. Also, that gimmick has only really gotten over a handful of times the biggest of which ended up being the biggest tragedy to hit wrestling a few years ago.

XL 10-20-2010 05:03 PM

Yeah, that gimmick has no depth to it. It's basically what Benoit did, and whilst it got him to World Champ level I can't see the same happening for DB.

James Steele 10-20-2010 05:05 PM

I'm am just glad they fixed the nameplate on DB's belt this week. That was embarrassing for me to see his name plate dangling off his belt a week or so ago. I can only imagine how they felt when they saw it on RAW.

The Gold Standard 10-20-2010 06:29 PM

I think it is good because they probably have nothing for him right now, but it keeps him on TV. Bryan is popular and can wrestle very well. This is just a filler IMO.

Dorkchop 10-20-2010 09:06 PM

It worked for Lance Storm

dronepool 10-20-2010 09:18 PM

Corny segment, but meh. As long as he gets matches.

What Would Kevin Do? 10-20-2010 09:26 PM

I'm personally loving the nerd rage character. I mean, come on, acting like a total nerd, then looking like he's ripping someone's arm off, and then acting like a nerd afterwards. Or when he had Riley in the LeBell lock and was just smiling.

More importantly though, he's getting comfortable on the mic and with the crowds. Basically, he's getting experience, so if they do try to give him a "gimmick" he'll be able to do it better.

DLVH84 10-20-2010 11:37 PM

He should be stern, serious, no nonsense. Hell, he comes out to Yoshiaki Fujiwara's music. Being the dancing ladies man kills the vibe.

KIRA 10-21-2010 01:43 AM

Third Reich aside,Never has invading a country had such a kickass theme song.

besides Flair comes out to "Also sprach Zarathustra" and Macho Man comes out to "Pomp and Circumstance" both of which have nothing to do with their characters but have come to fit them over time.

RiX1024 10-21-2010 07:28 AM

Here we go again with the shoe-horning irrelevant knowledge into a discussion. Maybe 1% of people that watch US wrestling know who Fujiwara is, therefore he - and by association the music he uses - doesn't even come into the equation.

Fignuts 10-21-2010 12:28 PM

Yeah DLVH84million. I have an extensive knowledge of puroresu, but you don't see me name dropping on here, or spouting off dream matches between american and Japanese stars.

That is because no one here gives a shit. Most wrestling fans in this country, don't give a shit.

Also, I would come off like a know-it-all, just like you do.

The split was a fail. Only Melina and RVD can succeed in that.

It got Dean Malenko pretty over in 1997. And are you actually using the Benoit murder-suicide thing as an argument against my suggestion for Bryan's gimmick?

Lol it didn't get Malenko over at all.

CSL 10-21-2010 07:28 PM

This is the first time I've clicked on this thread. It became pretty much void after the first 4 words of the first sentence.

RiX1024 10-21-2010 07:39 PM

Fck me that dance segment made me laugh.

Graveler 10-21-2010 10:21 PM

As long as the crowd doesn't start chant Boring during his matches, I'm cool with it

I agree. They better not chant boring, like they did with Lance Storm, and the World's Greatest Tag Team.

It got Malenko so over that he made it to the WCW midcard!!!!

Also, I am saying that basically ripping off Benoit's gimmick isn't good especially considering how similar their finishers are and that the media is zoned in on WWE at the moment.

It got him over to the point where he was a huge face in the cruiserweight division. Malenko unveiling himself at that PPV battle royal got an enormous pop.

That said, we're not talking about a cruiserweight division. We're talking about a guy going up against opponents who have several inches, to over a foot on him. So the badass gimmick doesn't really work here.

The mysterio type gimmick is much better suited, where he doesn't seem that threatening, but he's just so good technically, that he can hang with bigger opponents.

Ermaximus 10-22-2010 10:55 AM

So how long until we get a kayfabe relationship between Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee?
