Understanding each other in Japan (and other countries)
When you hear about American wrestlers working in Japan, how do they communicate with their opponents?
Can the Japanese wrestlers all speak English? Can all the Americans speak Japanese? (Highly doubtful). Do the Japanese use American wrestling terms? Is there any communication at all? (Surely there must be). Answers. Theories. Speculation. Go! |
pretty sure they call the moves the same as in english, only with extra syllables. like headlocko or suplexo

It's just like hearing someone speak Welsh.
|
A. Some of the moves are the same, as many wrestling moves are written/spelled in katakana, so yeah, brainbuster sounds like bulainbasta, etc.
B. I'm fairly certain some of the refs speak English. |
I want to hear the Japanese dub of WWE shows now.

I like how the Mexican commentators make sounds effects to go along with Batista's pyro. It is too bad that the audio and the video are out of sync though. |
Clothesline, punch, kick and elbow would be fairly universal.

Since when Japanese sounds like Welsh? I bet some of the Japenese wrestlers are able to speak some English and yes the moves called are in English. I would learn Japanese before wrestling there to avoid isolation or get shoot on. I already speak two languages.
|
I mean the Welsh language as in if someone's speaking Welsh, you'll hear some random English words in there still.
|
aye, double dutch we call it or Wenglish.

They made it up as the show went on, like Johnny B. Badd comes out they apparently look at him and are like "Uuuuhm... Here comes... uhmmm... Johnny Tutti Frutti". Was hilarious. |
I think they use body language
