Why is Randy Orton a face?
K so all like "writers' decisions" and the reasonings etc etc etc for it aside, why is Randy Orton a face?
Like whenever I watch Raw, I see nothing about Orton that makes me think a typical fan should cheer him. It doesn't make sense. He crawls around like a creep and looks like a pedophile and has absolutely nothing interesting about him to cheer for. What is the deal? Is it literally just, "He beats up bad guys" that makes him a face? I don't know. Fuck this guy. Bob Sanders. crossrine |
girls think he's OMG HAWT
|
He's pretty much a face because of the crowd reactions he was getting toward the end of his heel run. They really had no choice but to just go with it.
|
Well, I guess they did have a choice, but it was just easier to go with the crowd reactions.
|
His RKO's are sorta like Stone Cold's stunners, i think that's why he gets the crowd reactions he does. I do find him boring in the ring though sometimes.
|
Why do you have a face, RDD? Answer me THAT!
|
I need somewhere to rest my beard.

your semen beard probably
|
I don't really think there's necessarily faces and heels anymore. Not in the same context that there was years ago where faces were always morally good and the heels would cheat, etc. It's really either the crowd likes you or doesn't like you. There are some exceptions. It's really all the matter of you side with, feud with, etc.
Orton is aligned with Cena right now, feuding with Nexus. His antics are going to be acceptable unless they're done to a "babyface" more over than him. So really only Cena could turn him heel at this point in my opinion. |
I find that highly doubtful. Highly.

Orton on the other hand is just like...... ?! He's there. Why do I want to cheer this guy? Because he's feuding with Nexus? That's the only real reason I got out of that. I don't understaaaaaaaaaaand. Honestly if it's just a matter of feuding with "wrestler/stable X" makes you a face/heel, then that is lazy writing. crossrine |
Keep in mind that the Randy Orton we see is only the guy that appears to us on television. We don't see how he interacts with fans at bars, autographing events, things like that. He also recently had a kid, which I think has calmed him down a bit for the better.
|
I think if he punted his kid at a fan in a wheelchair he would solidify himself as a fan favourite wrestler.

Never judge a wrestler until you walk a mile in his wrestling attire.

"Trunks" is the accepted terminology, DrA. Trunks.

chicks dig Orton over Cena now......

Wow, that was classy.

Edge kidnapped and tortured Kane's father (Paul Bearer) for a few months, and that was apparently the "face" thing to do and got him plenty of cheers.

Picking on fat people has long been an American tradition.

Randy Orton has the coolest t-shirts. Did you know that?
|
If he drove a Viper then he would be cooler. Get it?
crossrine |
I mean, yes, but...
|
|
Can't believe I just really googled "Randy Orton nude".
|
Fans started to cheer him and WWE, in a rare occurrence, actually listened. WWE did that with Santino and I can't think of the last person they turned face or hell because of immense crowd reactions
Has anyone else noticed that randy grew a wee bit of hair for his face run? |
It is so he doesn't look as creepy.
|
On RAW right when they were having the big brawl and Punk was double teamed by Orton and Cena... I was expecting Orton to RKO Cena afterwards. Take 30 seconds, then SLAM!
But no... apparently they're best of friends (even though Randy recently made that whole 'in 2011 I'm gonna be tougher and not go all soft and shit' speech) |

Orton isn't a face.
Stupid fucking wrestling fans. He's the VIPER. He just so happens to be paired up against major heels at the moment. Doesn't mean he won't punt people to the head, specially Cena if provoked. |
Quote:
That all seems pretty babyface to me. Let's also not forget where he hugged it out with Cena after Cena got "fired". |
Randy Orton is more like Steve Austin, in contrast to John Cena's Hulk Hogan.
|
When Orton drives a zamboni into an arena I will take him more seriously as a face.

Last year, Orton was super over. He was getting CRAZY pops.
I haven't noticed lately if he still is, but what I HAVE noticed is that he is pretty bland...I mean, the WWE has pushed him to the moon, they've thrown "the machine" behind him, and he still hasn't gotten to the "next level"...I truly think it has to do with him not having great charisma. And if he hasn't reached the next level by now, I doubt he ever will. And when I say "next level", I mean GREATNESS. Like, Triple H, HBK, Austin, Rock, Undertaker...heck, even Cena has reached that level. But not Orton. |
I like this thread, as I've never understood the way Orton was booked. Not to say it's been bad. And you'd be hard pressed to say it hasn't worked out for him...
His move-set and mannerisms in the ring haven't changed that much from when he won the Rumble and faced HHH at Wrestlemania and got squashed, when he was meant to be in full heel mode. Although he did get a great pop when he entered the rumble. I would like to think he could go back to being the arrogant Legend Killer gimmick, but it's probably not in the cards. Plus by posing more to the crowd, he'd get booed. He's probably the Randy Orton from a parallel universe where heels are faces and vice versa... :shifty: |
I don't think anyone has ever expected Orton to get to rock or austin's level.
|

Austin > Rock > [ giant void ] > Cena > Orton :nono: Oops, forgot someone... Triple H > [ giant void ] > Austin > Rock > [ giant void ] > Cena > Orton |
Because he's from Missouri thus automatically awesome.
