PC Security
Last night, I was subject to a particularly frustrating bit of Malware/Spyware
In short, it overrode my firewall and wouldn't allow net access (wanted to Google it to find out what it did and how to get rid of it) Said my system had 29 viruses and was under attack from an IP address. Kinda difficult to do that when the Ethernet cable is not plugged in, but ok. Anyways, ran Avast! and it came up with no results and then ran spybot and it showed 4 bits of Spyware and I have since deleted and immunized. Having said that, what do you guys use for your web security? Any suggestions? I had a great setup on my old comp but cant remember what I had. As of right now Anit-Virus - Avast! Anti-Spy/Malware - Spybot SnD Should I get some new stuff as well? |
I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebyte's Antimalware. Both are free and work great while not consuming a lot of processing speed.

Just MS Security.
Don't forget to go to Spybot settings occasionally and tell it to do a scan when Windows starts. It will pick up more stuff when it scans before anything else runs. |
Can't believe anyone still gets spyware. I haven't had a spyware problem since 2003
|
Yeah, first I have had in a looooonnnggggg while.

Avira antivirus
Firefox with Adblock Plus Spybot, with windows immunized MS anti spyware (built in) You should never get a virus with that build. |
Sound stupid,.but want it from a guy who knows. How do you immunize windows?

MSE is free and brilliant and doesn't automatically come with Windows (which I find commercially suspicious) so install that, and the free version of antimalware is great as a backup. Most virus scanners are a joke, crippling performance and interfering with things. When I have to fix friends computers, it's often been that two antivirus' they've installed are having a fight. |

BTW a really great tool if your system is severely compromised is ComboFix. ComboFix | freeware
Technically it can brick your system apparently but I've run it like 4 or 5 times on 2 or 3 systems and it has always fixed my worst problems without any issue |
