Is it me or is there a genuine lack of suplexes in the WWE?

Is it me or is there a genuine lack of german, belly-to-belly and all other crazy types of suplex in the WWE that Kurt Angle and that guy from Alberta use to perform on a regular basis?

I am not saying that they have completely stopped using them but I am having a hard time recalling them being used on a regular basis (other than that of Cena's fisherman suplex).

Feel free to post your opinions

Swagger could do some suplexes maybe Bryan as well. We just need some more technical wrestling in general

Lock Jaw 08-22-2011 01:28 AM

Replaced by SCOOP SLAMS.

Brodus Clay whipped out a T-Bone the other day. Also see belly to back suplexes quite often if I'm not mistaken.

Captain of Fun 08-22-2011 01:43 AM

I'm guessing they've cut back on them, because they can be very dangerous manuevers, and a lot of guys have had neck surgeries in recent years.

Shane's head hitting the ground is probably the worst thud I've ever heard

Also really miss suplexes wish WWE would get more technical wrestlers on the roster and use the ones they have better. :(

CSL 08-22-2011 02:27 AM

Shane will always be a beast4life for that KOTR match, especially the suplex "sequence"/the glass's refusal to work with them. Probably earned more respect from "the boys" in that one night than the rest of his time spent working for the company combined.

Tom Guycott 08-22-2011 06:17 AM

I say Shane DESERVES to be inducted into the HoF, and it has nothing to do with his last name, and partially has to do with that match.

Seriously, he's "done it all" in terms of being in the company: ref, commentary, manager, worker, and exec. Likely was on the ring crew when he was younger to boot. He could take bumps & work a mic better than most in the company around him, save maybe Mick Foley... and that's saying a lot for someone who didn't need to "make a living" doing so like "the boys".

On subject:

@ Captain and Wishbone - While it's true that safety is likely to blame for suplexes going the way of the piledriver, it is a double-edged sword in that they're likely hiring more guys who can't properly throw them OR take them because it is an afterthought; thus, Wishbone's lament for more technical wrestlers rings true.

Yeah, it would be a boost to someone like THwagger to start THrowing biTHes around the ring, but how many guys do you think he can seriously work who would properly protect themselves? He can only work Regal so many times before that would get really old really fast.

El Fangel 08-22-2011 07:08 AM

Once you read all that you realize just how awesome Shane was.

All while never getting a push because he was a daddies boy, he took it in steps like all the respected guys.

Tom Guycott 08-22-2011 07:24 AM

I wrote more, but I realized I wrote that before. There was something about him pulling off a Van Terminator in the larger WWE ring (before RVD came in), co-opting Test's diving elbow into a signature, suicidal maneuver, and even being a legit titleholder (as opposed to Vince being world champion merely to screw Austin & such).

The best part was that he was awesome at all aspects of it. He could tell a story in a match, in the booth, and on the mic. And let's not forget exactly how over he was, and I suspect, still is. Honestly, if he came back TONIGHT as a surprise to RAW, the second everyone heard "HERE COMES THE MON-AYYYYYY!" then "outpopping DX" would be a freakin' understatement. Hell, he showed up ONE TIME in a backstage sgement on RAW a few years ago (before he left) and the place went nuts like he was The Rock!

THAT should tell you "just how awesome Shane was."

And, why I vote Shane HoF material. If Koko B. Ware can get in, there should be a guaranteed spot for $hane-O-Mac.

...I did it anyway.

Shisen Kopf 08-22-2011 07:43 AM

I wanna see more 1980s style hip tosses. And someone needs to bring back the rude awakening.

Shadrick 08-22-2011 09:03 AM

More hammerlocks. MANY MORE HAMMERLOCKS.

Corporate CockSnogger 08-22-2011 09:12 AM

This thread makes me want to make a Shane O'Mac appreciation thread.

JimmyMess 08-22-2011 09:21 AM

All those German suplexes probably remind people of Chris Benoit... so they don't do them as much, or ever...

If we're lucky, we'll see some headlocks also.

Anybody Thrilla 08-22-2011 10:20 AM

Alberto Del Rio v. Daniel Bryan on this past Smackdown had some nice suplexes.

NormanSmiley 08-22-2011 01:02 PM

NormanSmiley 08-22-2011 01:03 PM

BUT WHAT IF YOU DO IT FOURTY-FIVE TIMES IN A ROW?!

DLVH84 08-22-2011 01:08 PM

I would love to see someone use the Table Top Suplex or the Blizzard Suplex.

CSL 08-22-2011 03:37 PM

so a Fallaway Slam and a modified T-Bone suplex then

XL 08-22-2011 03:47 PM

lol

Kal-El 08-22-2011 04:03 PM

The Three Amigos!

Tom Guycott 08-22-2011 05:03 PM

I would love to see a stable of 3 Sin Caras* each pull off a succession of The Three Amigos, followed by:

*The third Sin Cara is Chavo

St. Jimmy 08-22-2011 06:59 PM

With the drout of Suplex we currently have in WWE it would be nice for someone to maybe get a suplex as a finisher. It worked pretty damn well for a long time that Shane Douglas' finisher was the Belly-to-Belly.

I know what you mean, every time I see a bland listless personality doing a long winded rambling promo all I can think of is Ken Anderson. *shudder*

Both bridged into a pin.

Here is DLVH's line of thought: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suplex

Shadrick 08-22-2011 07:11 PM

Wristlocks galore. What a finisher that would be.

Lol, have the crowd pop for the wristlock and have the guy tap ferociously. And the neeeeeeeeeeeewwww.....

No Germans because of Benoit..... No idea concerning the others.....

Anybody Thrilla 08-23-2011 06:16 PM

Del Rio has been doing a German suplex, but they've been calling it a belly-to-back suplex with a bridge. So silly.

JR has always done that but i think he also said german suplex first this time. Was surprised to see it recently and did make me think there's a lack of suplexes in general these days. Not sure why that would be.

Thing is, Booker T called it the very same way on the Smackdown before the RAW where JR called it as such.

Nicky Fives 08-24-2011 08:48 PM

This thread reminded me of how big of a reaction CM Punk could have gotten on Raw in Edmonton if he mentioned Chris Benoit..... definitely would have gotten his "I'll do what I want because I'm CM Punk with a live mic" gimmick.....
