WWE Superstars Cancelled.... then Uncancelled...

WWE SUPERSTARS CANCELED (ONLINE)
By Mike Johnson on 2011-09-23 18:53:20 WWE has canceled the online airings of WWE Superstars via WWE.com and Youtube.com. I am told the company has pulled it due to a declining amount of viewers. The series will still air internationally and obviously is a candidate to return Stateside when the WWE Network debuts.
now see this post for an update

Londoner 09-23-2011 07:21 PM

Decline in viewers? I wonder why!

Evil Vito 09-23-2011 07:25 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Shit. I loved Superstars. Usually some good matches.

I'm sure the matches will still find their way onto YouTube from international airings though. Don't really see the point in cancelling it online if they're still obligated to show it overseas anyway, much like NXT.</font>

Nark Order 09-23-2011 07:40 PM

What in the fuck is Superstars?

Lock Jaw 09-23-2011 07:50 PM

In other news, Trent Baretta soon to be homeless?

Battlekat 09-23-2011 08:08 PM

Can't say it bothers me much. I'd turn it on for the occasional Ryder match, but that's about it.

Juan 09-23-2011 08:11 PM

Bummer

Graveler 09-23-2011 08:20 PM

:(

I can see stopping the "live, streaming" viewing on WWE.com, but I honestly don't see the point in pulling it from YouTube if they're going to continue to tape it for international air. Looking at the numbers, they pull about 18,000 views for recent recent episodes, which to me would be enough to take the 10 minutes out of their day to upload the show once a week.

People are going to be uploading it to YouTube anyway, and WWE will miss out on the revenue of those views. Stupid move.

Xero 09-23-2011 08:29 PM

Also, looking at the same weeks as the Superstars viewers I looked up (the last three episodes), NXT does about half that, 6000 to 12,000. Doesn't make sense to keep the least popular show. Unless they're planning to get rid of the Superstars concept entirely and only focus on NXT.

BizarroKing 09-23-2011 08:30 PM

Could be bad for those who were exclusive to Superstars...with the exception of Zack Ryder who's been finding himself on Raw more and more lately so he's probably safe.

Can't have people saying the wrestling is better on Superstars.

GD 09-23-2011 08:56 PM

It was the best WWE show :nono:

BollywoodSingh 09-23-2011 10:06 PM

If they're taping and editing the show to air internationally anyway, why don't they also just leave it on WWE.com and Youtube? Does it cost a lot of money to do that or something?

XCaliber 09-23-2011 10:11 PM

From a business perspective this makes no sense.

Xero 09-23-2011 10:21 PM

The only thing I can possibly figure is that the international version has different commentary at some points (welcoming you to WWE Superstars on WWE.com vs. Sky, for example) which means redubbing and different graphics. I've never watched it on WWE.com so I don't know what kind of specific graphics/commentary they have, but this is the only logical reason I can think of.

Pintint 09-23-2011 10:48 PM

I believe t he correct reaction here is,

"Are you serious bro?"

:/

Forgot all about the US tv showing being cancelled months ago because almost all the times I forgot when it gave but did catch the episodes or some of the matches online on WWE.com

Not surprised at the lack of viewers because they barely promote the show even on their website similar to their NXT show but I also wonder how much revenue they must be getting from the overseas markets to keep pushing the non-RAW/SD! shows off of tv channels in the US.

Xero 09-23-2011 11:02 PM

It's not so much the the revenue but the fact that they have contracts overseas that I'd assume would make them incur big penalties, plus probably piss off current networks.

Rammsteinmad 09-24-2011 02:01 AM

Maybe they're bringing back ECW?

Fox 09-24-2011 03:59 AM

Oh no. They're cancelling that show that they already took off TV that nobody watches. Who will make Bender his pancakes just the way he likes them now?

That's still not going to get viewers though if they don't promote it well.

#BROKEN Hasney 09-24-2011 04:52 AM

You unerestimate the power of a Hasney endorsement.

Alas, we shall never know.

I dunno, I think they knew viewership would decline once they took it off the air in the US.

Not to mention that when it was on TV here, it was on a channel not everyone gets.

Juan 09-24-2011 06:04 AM

They should bring back Shotgun Saturday Night

RiX1024 09-24-2011 08:49 AM

Gutted, a new programme is needed.

What Would Kevin Do? 09-24-2011 10:34 AM

Crap, how will this affect TPWW Survivor?

#BROKEN Hasney 09-24-2011 10:40 AM

Well it won't, because the show is still going. Just not in the US.

Xero 09-24-2011 10:45 AM

But if it doesn't air in the US, it doesn't count.

I loved Superstars when it was on TV, but I hate watching things on the internet.

Gertner 09-24-2011 03:49 PM

No more Brodus Clay squash matches

Mr. Nerfect 09-25-2011 05:35 AM

This kind of sucks, because it makes me think that they'll be scrapping the show when international contracts run out. Personally, I loved Superstars. The guys on that show get to tell pretty phenomenal stories. The problem was always promotion, and I never get why the WWE doesn't get behind their "lower shows." Shouldn't the idea be to make as much money off them as possible?

Also, it's very rare you get a storyline on Superstars. The other week, Johnny Curtis & Trent Barreta formed a tag team that seemed to have this tension between them. The story was that apparently their girlfriends are best friends (seriously). Barreta would pose on the entrance way and then Johnny Curtis stood in front of him and did his own pose and Barreta was all "Are you serious, bro?" After losing that tag team match, would it have been so hard to book a follow-up the next week, with Curtis blaming the loss on Barreta and the two having a singles match to air out tensions? Something to episodically invest the viewer?

Lock Jaw 09-25-2011 11:47 AM

Forgot all about Johnny Curtis. Did he ever make his Smackdown debut after all those vignettes about spilled milk?

loopydate 09-25-2011 11:54 AM

He got squashed by Henry, didn't he?

MoFo 09-25-2011 12:23 PM

Bring back Heat!

Lock Jaw 09-25-2011 12:27 PM

Wiki says:

Quote:

After weeks of backstage promos all playing on words, Curtis made his in-ring debut for the brand on the August 12 edition of SmackDown! as a Face, where he lost to Mark Henry in only 54 seconds.[11] on September 15th, edition of Superstars, Curtis made an appearance where he teamed with Trent Barreta against The Usos which he and Barreta lost, thus turning him Heel in process.

From PWInsider:

WWE will again begin posting episodes of WWE Superstars online starting tomorrow at 4 PM on the WWE website.

Triple Naitch 10-05-2011 09:44 PM

I saw this morning that they had last week's episode on their YouTube page.
