A question for my fellow wrestling forum members.

So this weekend will be the first WWE PPV my gf has ever watched and it's a good one to start her off on. Now before Sunday, I'd like to get her to watch some of the older rumbles with me to get her into it. My question is which 5 are MUST WATCH rumbles? I know for a fact 2001 is, but what do you guys think? Help me out. Whichever 5 get the most mentions will be the ones we watch.

Rammsteinmad 01-26-2012 08:31 PM

This is not a good idea. Unless she's already a wrestling fan (which it doesn't sound like she is), there is no way she will sit through five Rumble matches with any genuine interest.

Your best bet is to just wait until Sunday and explain it to her then.

Rammsteinmad 01-26-2012 08:34 PM

But to answer your question, I'd probably recommend 2011. Was pretty awesome from top to bottom, lots of drama (CM Punk/Nexus/Corre/Cena), unpredictability (Santino almost winning, Nash and Booker T returning) and every wrestler was on top form, hitting all their signature moves etc (JoMo's spot). The crowd were also really into the event, which made it even better.

Ermaximus 01-26-2012 08:36 PM

She's gotten more into wrestling over the past 6 months. She wasn't at first but she grew to like it, because I liked it and shows legit interest in it. Her favorite superstars at the moment are Zack Ryder, The Miz, and sadly John Cena. That's why I asked which rumbles to shoot for.

Tazz Dan 01-26-2012 08:37 PM

2010. Is that the one Edge won? But yeah, that one. 1995 (I think) is also good when HBK won from number 1.

Tazz Dan 01-26-2012 08:37 PM

Cena's return to win also then

Tazz Dan 01-26-2012 08:38 PM

Just buy the Anthology and watch them all.

Ermaximus 01-26-2012 08:39 PM

Edge won in 2010 and HBK in 95. Cena returned and won in 08. I'd buy the anthology, but it's almost $200.

Nicky Fives 01-26-2012 08:40 PM

1992
1999
2001
2004
2011

Corporate CockSnogger 01-26-2012 08:45 PM

Don't bother with any older ones where she won't know anybody. I doubt she will care much for the mythology of WWE and it's previous characters.

Ermaximus 01-26-2012 08:46 PM

2004 rumble didn't happen....

Theo Dious 01-26-2012 08:50 PM

89 - She'll see guys like Hulk Hogan, Andre, Roddy Piper, Macho Man, and Jake Roberts who she may be vaguely familiar with.
92 - If I have to explain why...
01 - Fuckin' Drew Carey! Sersiously, if she hasn't been living under a rock, she'll know who Austin & the Rock are, and this was a very solid Rumble without an obvious winner.
04 - One of the more solid modern Rumbles.
11 - Most recent, will get her up to date.

I also agree though that showing her five might be excessive, unless she really gets into it. Show her 92 and 11 definitely.

You can get it in four parts. Go slow.

CSL 01-26-2012 08:51 PM

1990, 1992

Ermaximus 01-26-2012 08:56 PM

I was thinking 92 was a must see also so 2001 and 1992 are both a lock.

Indifferent Clox 01-26-2012 10:15 PM

My girlfriend is such a smark She hates cena and loves Daniel Bryan LOL.

Triple Naitch 01-26-2012 10:23 PM

The last two are pretty good to start. She will know most of the competitors.

But more importantly, when did you get a girlfriend?

DLVH84 01-26-2012 11:36 PM

1988 - The one that started it all.
1992 - Vacant championship incentive
1994 - Who was eliminated last?
1995 - First two started and finished.
2000 - KAIENTAI, FOOL!!!

03. OHHH THREE

Droford 01-27-2012 12:12 AM

the one with drew carey just because she can be like "Why is drew carey wrestling?" then you can point out he got in the wrestling hall of fame for that brief few minutes and it will ruin any respect she might have had for wrestling and you wont have to worry about her wanting to watch any more.

you serious with this?

Droford 01-27-2012 12:25 AM

well if she doesnt think Drew Carey being in the wrestling hall of fame for that is ridiculous then he's got a keeper.

Destor 01-27-2012 12:27 AM

im sorry so you expect someone who doesnt give a shit about wreslting to give enough of shit about its hall of fame to walk on that piece of trivia?

He is the only celebrity to have made an in-ring appearance in what is arguably WWE's second biggest attraction of the year. Given the existence of the "celebrity wing,' I'd say that earns him as much right to be there as someone who ring announced a few matches and got choked by Andre.

stultiloquy 01-27-2012 03:26 AM

Whichever Rumble it was where Big Show eliminated Taka, which resulted in Taka doing a flip over the ropes and slamming his face into the ringside floor with an audible *Splat*.

If nothing else, it'll grab her attention when she starts drifting off into boredom.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2012 04:03 AM

1999 has to be there. Not only because of the tremendous booking of the Rumble itself, but you've also got Rock/Mankind.

St. Jimmy 01-27-2012 05:47 AM

1992 for sure. WITH A TEAR IN MY EYE.

this. she wont be able to connect with guys who aren't there anymore. Most casual fans don't

That was 2000, but the rest of that Rumble was boring.

James Steele 01-27-2012 02:46 PM

2002 Royal Rumble was the best.

Ermaximus 01-27-2012 06:19 PM

I knew you'd say that Steele. Oddly enough, it's the only Rumble I've ever owned on DVD too.

VSG 01-27-2012 06:44 PM

Dont waste her time with a lot of RR's. I would say just 1-2 to get her interest up, preferably recent ones so that she can identify with the wrestlers. 2008 for sure with the Cena win, and maybe 2006 for Rey Mysterio.

Rock vs. Mankind was brutally gory too. Good match! But the Rumble itself is notable because it was basically Austin vs. Mcmahon, they were the first two in and didn't keep it in the ring (I think it went out to the concession stand and beyond too).
2011 was the best one I've seen besides that one.

I do believe Austin shoved McMahon's head in a toilet and other crazy things. They were all over the place.

DAMN iNATOR 01-29-2012 04:36 PM

1992
1987
1999
2000
2001

Honorable Mention: 2002, just for all the legend appearances.
