Big PPV In The Uk

in this recession and the obvious downturn in interest in the sports entertainment world why doesn't the wwe have a guaranteed 80 to 90 thousand sell out UK big for ppv i mean we are positively gagging for it

VSG 05-06-2012 07:38 PM

There is no way WWE will have a PPV not airing in the night US time which means having it in the late morning in the UK. How many people will show up then?

Do you think WWE would be completely against doing a tape delay ppv like they did for SummerSlam?

Mr. Nerfect 05-06-2012 08:32 PM

I think they should consider going overseas for PPV more often. Not all the time, but for a special occasion here or there, it could be pretty special. Rio de Janeiro could also be an interesting PPV host site, as well as somewhere in Mexico.

That would be a great idea. Have at least one or two PPVs held outside the United States.

Nicky Fives 05-06-2012 08:58 PM

I honestly don't see why there hasn't been another one at Wembley.....The Brits should get a Mania.....

Mr. Nerfect 05-06-2012 09:31 PM

Would the WWE be willing to do a Mania on delay, though? The only way I could see the WWE doing this is if they had something huge planned that was really great live, but would benefit from world of mouth.

I think a WrestleMania in Mexico is probably more likely at this point, given the time zones and such. That could be where they do Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara in a Mask vs. Mask Match to farewell Mysterio. Alberto Del Rio would likely be a huge part of the show as well.

St. Jimmy 05-06-2012 10:44 PM

No PPV delay in America. Not even possible. No buys.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-06-2012 10:46 PM

I would support a PPV in the UK. But how do you think the WWE would be able to get around the fact that the UK is totally gay?

How many fans would actually notice and/or care? I think the "live" thing is completely overrated by us on the interwebz. WWE only went live when WCW did it to be different and "off the cuff" while giving away WWF's taped show results. If it was only on an 2-3 hour tape delay it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

James Steele 05-06-2012 10:56 PM

For example, if you start the PPV in London @ 9pm. You go on two hour delay and the show starts in the USA at 6pm (EST). It might suck for the UK crowd for the PPV to end at 1am. Possibly bump everything up an hour, and then the show is over at Midnight in London and starts to air @ 5pm. (Assuming they maintain the 4hr WrestleMania runtime)

Edit: Just wanted to add - it seems highly unlikely that paying viewers in the middle of the show would go online to check out the ending.

James Steele 05-06-2012 11:07 PM

I am surprised they quit doing the 1-2 UK only PPVs a year. I think it'd be an interesting gimmick to do for one of the "non big 4 ppvs" and host it in the UK. Imagine Wade Barrett wins Money in the Bank and he decides to cash it in at _____ in Manchester. If he decides to do it, host William Regal's retirement match on the card too. Either: A) Start the ppv in Manchester at 10pm and air it live at 5pm in the US (EST) or B) start earlier in UK and do a 1 or 2 hour delay.

St. Jimmy 05-06-2012 11:10 PM

Spoilers would be out before the PPV ever airs. It will never work.

St. Jimmy 05-06-2012 11:10 PM

Plus, America/Canada is the world. Fuck every place else.

Did you read my fucking post? The show airs in the US as it is only half-way done in the UK. People (ie. average fan) watching the middle of PPV won't be online getting spoilers unless they have dickwad friends like you who text them as www.shitheadwrestlingfan.com does live updates. Also, I don't think anybody reads spoilers to catch the opening matches. People read spoilers to either: find out the main event results or read them because they didn't buy the show (in which case WWE doesn't give a fuck about them).

No. You know I didn't.

Nicky Fives 05-07-2012 07:54 AM

If people don't want the event to be spoiled, they won't read the spoiilers....simple as that..... and I don't think the time delay in North America would effect the number of buys at all..... like mentioned above, 3/4 will think the feed is live anyways.....

As a Brit, we regularly have shows that end in the early hours. Concerts/boxing etc.

The only concern would be kids attending, but as it would likely be once and only once, it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Also, as it's on a Sunday, whats the problem with a mid-afternoon start in the US? Does Yankee Bob not buy a PPV if it's on before 8pm?

Tornado 05-07-2012 09:08 AM

If Wrestlemania was to be held at Wembley one year, it would probably have to end by 23:00 BST as there is a curfew for live events.

Which is why it would be held earlier. Look at the PPVs held in like domes or stadiums, they start in daylight and end at night.

Gay. It is WRESTLE FRIGGIN' MANIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

James Steele 05-07-2012 12:11 PM

Is Wembley still the biggest stadium in England? If Vince is truly wanting to do massive stadiums, I think it opens so many more location possibilities. Think of all the big ass college/pro football stadiums in the US? WrestleMania in the Rose Bowl? WrestleMania at Arrowhead Stadium? I still think they might try and do WrestleMania XXX in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium to try and get over 100,000 people in that son of a bitch and finally break their BS record of 93,000+ from WrestleMania III (It was supposedly only like 78K which they have broken at least once - WM23)

Supreme Olajuwon 05-07-2012 12:21 PM

well they just built that big ass stadium for the Olympics but I think Wembley is still bigger

they also have a big ass rugby stadium too

lots of big ass stadiums to choose from in England

yus. They could get legit 100,000/105,000 in now.

CSL 05-07-2012 12:34 PM

probably more like 95,000/100,000 given some of the seats wouldn't be usable

DLVH84 05-07-2012 12:36 PM

How about the Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyungyang, North Korea? That stadium holds the current record of attendance of a pro wrestling event with 340,000 people over two straight days.

itsmeJD 05-07-2012 12:38 PM

Aren't we talking about the U.K. DLVH? When the fuck did North Korea join the U.K.

MoFo 05-07-2012 12:39 PM

Ricky Hatton fought Kosta Tszyu in Manchester @ 4am just to comply w/ american TV, don't underestimate our creativity..

Might be a bit hard to do that for wrestling though with all the kids going and such.

CSL 05-07-2012 12:40 PM

ahhh yes, that country without the internet that hates the United States as well as most of it's own citizens and the general idea of freedom, definitely a great choice for a WWE PPV

I had just moved when that fight happened so I didn't have a net or Sky connection setup and "watched" it via Teletext :o

MoFo 05-07-2012 12:43 PM

lol Teletext

Given all the talk about the numbers in attendances and the talk about stadiums, I thought I'd throw that out quick.
