Goldberg's Theme
Was watching The Rise & Fall Of WCW DVD, and noticed that the WWE edited Goldberg's theme. It's not the original one used in WCW, but the re-done, much crappier version used during DA MAN's run in WWE.
Doesn't the WWE own the original WCW music? If not, then who currently owns it? Is there a story behind this? Enlighten me. |
Depends what version of it you're referring to, on his debut he had his WCW invasion theme:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UQ9m5MkiHQQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> When facing the rock a few weeks later he had a newer version of it (starts around 2:55): <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nF6D14d2Wyg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It was then updated to the version he had for the rest of his run: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HnoQI65yRHE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> WWE are notorious for editing themes on dvd's though, in the wrestlemania anthology wm 18 has the nwo theme edited out whereas the original dvd had it intact. Probably just depends if the release falls into the timeframe they had the music licensed for, if they reissue the dvd they might also have to pay more to use any copyrighted music in it. |
if you notice on the WCW Mayhem game they used an alternative vesrion of his theme, didn't they have to pay to use his theme like Booker T's theme?

Its public domain music, WWE/Vince likes to license shit so you cant take it to other organizations ( aka they have the copyright ) which is why it was modified.
Other wrestlers used it before Goldberg as well. WCW used a lot of public domain stuff, some of the wrestlers themes were on sports broadcasts. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/x5xkfZQ1r4E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I thought the first modification was the best one.

Sub-zero vs Pat Tanaka aside its funny that Invasion is from Exodus which is about the Jewish people so it was a good fit for Goldberg for more than a few reasons.
|
"Invasion" also conjures memories of Mr. Perfect's original theme, which was the "Theme from Exodus".

Goldberg's WWE theme is better anyways. Made that Hogan match entrance like ten times better.
