Gonna take a guess and say both Snakes will be playable in two separate eras of time.

Drakul 09-02-2012 01:22 PM

It's for the PC, PS3 and 360. That's what I've read on Kotaku, when they reported what was said at PAX.
The gameplay shown was done on the PC using PS3 specs. I'm not sure I can imagine the 360 version looking like that but GTA V looks good, so you never know.

Yeah, like Kojima's gonna waste his time de-shining a turd to put it in the 360.

Kalyx triaD 09-02-2012 06:13 PM

Corrected, and KK... what?

Kane Knight 09-02-2012 08:23 PM

You saw my other post, but it's largely taking the piss.

Ah.

According to Kojima, Naked Snake's appearance is not an indicator to any past MGS games after people thought he would be from the MGS 4 era due to his grey hairs. Snake himself is a lot younger than what was shown in trailers.

Kojima took to Twitter to address some speculation regarding the color of Snake’s hair and beard, “Saw many tweet about Snake in grey hair after taking off the goggle. This is due to the rim-lighting.”

I don't really care about the age of Snake but I do think it looks like they've remodeled his face. I think he looks a little like Ron Perlman now.

With a movie in the works, maybe this was intentional, for casting purposes.:shifty:

Fignuts 09-06-2012 01:24 AM

Honestly like Big Boss more than Snake anyway.

Kalyx triaD 09-06-2012 01:54 AM

Hell no Ron would be cast as any Snake.

ooTin 09-06-2012 01:36 PM

Looks so amazing. although, when Big Boss is crawling thru the mud, near the end of the video, there are no scrap marks. Just saying.

Hanso Amore 09-06-2012 04:02 PM

This is definitely post Peace Walker. Late 70s or so my guess?

I imagine this is the final chapter for the change from Naked Snake to Big Boss and the creation of Outer Haven.

Tom Guycott 09-07-2012 12:33 AM

I'm sorry, but as badass as Pearlman would be getting the Nick Fury-esque retconning to a more current cool choice, the image of "the greatest soldier who ever lived" still belongs to this man:

http://a34.idata.over-blog.com/500x3...id-bigboss.jpghttp://cdn.fd.uproxx.com/wp-content/...an-Connery.jpg

http://totallylookslike.files.wordpr...n-connery3.jpg
I wish I didn't have to use the "totally looks like" image. That's kind of cheating since that was done by design.

I get that he's wayyy to old for that to happen now (unless said movie revolves around 'Intrude N313' and thus not too much action from him), and his voice is just... wrong being that they established that he and Solid basically sound the same. However, I'm too old for that to be whitewashed out of existance for me.

Kojima announces a few details such as Snake's base is upgradable, possible smart phone app could be made to let players manage their base while away, and the weapons R&D from Peace Walker returns in this game.

Quote:

Snake will have a home base in the game’s open world which can be upgraded and managed as the game moves on. Snake will have the ability to walk around the base and players can fortify it as they see fit. Kojima also mentioned that the team is working on a smartphone app that will allow players to manage their base while not playing the game.

Finally it was announced that weapon R&D from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker would be returning in Ground Zeroes.

Emperor Smeat 02-25-2013 05:29 PM

According to Kojima, the game could end up getting cancelled or postponed due to Konami becoming potentially worried with all the stuff and topics he wants the game to have.

Quote:

“"Over the past 25 year [sic] I have tried to work with the Metal Gear series to introduce more mature themes, but really it hasn't gotten there yet," said Kojima. "Compared to movies and books it still has a long way to go. That's precisely what I want to try to tackle with Ground Zeroes. Honestly I'm going to be targeting a lot of taboos, a lot of mature themes that really are quite risky. I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn't sell because it's too much."
He did hint if Konami does end up postponing the project, he will still fight to get it released and won't stop developing the game.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes seems, above all else, safe, despite its subtle but significant changes. The prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which eases players to the main game’s open-world elements, introduces numerous new elements to the franchise, none of which stand out as exceptionally interesting on their own. In unison, one after the other, and in the context of the next Big Boss story, these changes shake up the norm, disrupting expectations with more modern systems. The stealth, action, interrogation, infiltration, and navigation mechanics feel familiar in ways that feel equal parts right and wrong.

[...]

The 24 minute demo -- which showed much of the same footage we’ve seen before, now featuring blazing combat and new character traits -- left me wondering what I’d just watched. The answer is simple, but conflicted.

Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain represent a strange new era for Metal Gear Solid, one where systems (finally) take precedent over the story, which Kojima’s previously stated plays a smaller role than ever. Big Boss is an easier badass to play, a man with newfound skills that enable him to get around a larger world and interact with it in more meaningful, accelerated ways.

Part of me hates seeing Metal Gear give into what everyone else is doing.

The rest of me -- the majority -- is excited to see if it works, and what kind of trouble it’ll let me get into.

When I left the debut gameplay demo of Ground Zeroes, one thought looped in my mind: This is an exceptional Splinter Cell sequel

Ground Zeroes is deviating from what’s always made the series special to me. If you’re a Splinter Cell fan, you may be having deja vu. This has “Conviction” written all over it.

Good god. The thing MGS has over Splinter Cell is the story at least, but I'm a little worried. Health regen... Fuck me.

Kalyx triaD 09-06-2013 03:57 AM

sigh

Fignuts 09-06-2013 05:25 AM

This would bother me more if I didn't absolutely love Conviction.

dronepool 09-06-2013 05:48 AM

sounds okay to me, MGS4 is great but clunky in ways.

Kalyx triaD 09-06-2013 05:57 PM

I thought MGS4 was fine, but if Kojima wants to put a spin on modern mechanics he's still Kojima putting a spin on modern mechanics.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-04-2013 09:38 AM

Kalyx's fucking title taunting me since there will be no PC version.

HOWEVER, it is coming Spring 2014 and priced at £20 for a 360 or PS3 download or boxed for £30.

The PS4 and XB1 download versions will be £30 and there has been no boxed version announced.

Can't wait at that price, but hoping the new mechanics don't sour me on the full-fat MGS5. Didn't even think this little prologue would be that soon.

Kalyx triaD 11-04-2013 09:40 AM

oops

#BROKEN Hasney 11-07-2013 07:53 AM

The release date of MGSV depends on the performance of GZ apparently.

Kojima's "ground breaking announcement" from the special Spike TV PS4 launch show was the ability to play as Classic Snake for Ground Zeroes.

Quote:

The Metal Gear series has a rich history on the PlayStation platform, and because of that Konami is including a special throwback mission in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The PlayStation-exclusive is called the "Deja Vu Mission," and it will let you play as Classic Snake in all his polygon ugliness.

Kalyx triaD 11-15-2013 01:34 AM

Can't imagine why I'd do that. I would have settled for the classic costume in HD.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-15-2013 09:54 AM

I will laugh if PS1 Snake is voiced by Hayter with new dialogue.

Kalyx triaD 11-15-2013 10:18 AM

Sounds like something Kojima would do. A complete Hayter recording as DLC would be likely as well.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-15-2013 10:19 AM

Still wish we got that Revengance DLC Japan got with a sword that spoke in Snake's voice.

Kalyx triaD 11-15-2013 10:37 AM

Speaking of that, the Jetstream Sam and Bladewolf DLC is totally free totally now.

Emperor Smeat 12-03-2013 05:05 PM

According to Hideo Kojima, he sort of regrets having to split Metal Gear Solid 5 into two games while save files from Ground Zeroes will unlock special stuff in Phantom Pain.

Quote:

Speaking with Famitsu magazine, Hideo Kojima talked a bit about the decision to split the upcoming Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain into two games, and how he would have rather "released it all at once." Kojima hints that Phantom Pain will most likely come out when the PlayStation 4 "becomes more spread out," which implies a larger install base, and thus a larger wait.

He also touched on the fact that during GDC 2013 Konami showed off a Fox Engine demo, leading people to believe that Metal Gear Solid V was already complete -- but that's far from the reality. Since the game will require "much more time," the decision to split Ground Zeroes into its own game was made to to "allow fans to at least play the prologue, ahead of time." Originally Kojima wanted to offer it up as a download-only to keep things cheap, but since "some places don't have the best connectivity," a physical version will be shipped as well.

Finally, Kojima hints that save data from Ground Zeroes will unlock something in Phantom Pain eventually, but there's no hints as to what that may be.

No worries, Kojima, only morons thought a whole game was finished because of a tech demo.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-09-2013 09:35 AM

So both Sony and MS get "exclusive content"... Fucking hell.

360/XB1 get cyborg Raiden:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/D-afMxILwxM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

PS3/4 get's MGS1 Snake as above.

This needs to stop.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-09-2013 09:48 AM

Oh yeah, it's March 18th 2014 too.

Kalyx triaD 12-09-2013 11:14 AM

Let's not pretend the exclusive DLC won't appear on the other console down the line.

Emperor Smeat 02-05-2014 04:54 PM

According to Game Informer, Ground Zeroes is a really short game with the campaign's length being around 2 hours long. Also stated its possible to beat the game in 5 minutes for speed run purposes.

Also the usual Kojima wants to stop making Metal Gear games but won't until he can find someone worthy enough to be his replacement for the series.

Raiden seems awesome, MGS1 Snake? Seems like just a "skin".

Agreed. When masses of people (myself included) were morons over that PS3 FF7 remake tech demo, we all learned. It was painful, but we learned. Never ever trust a tech demo to be real.

Did anything ever come of that Samaritan tech demo for Unreal Engine a couple years ago?
