Ryan Davis passed away on July 3rd. He was 34.
Obviously we’re all stunned over here. Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.

Many of you know that Ryan was recently married. In the face of this awfulness, many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outrageously, uproariously happy, looking forward to his next adventure with the biggest grin his face could hold.

The consolation we can feel from that is miniscule compared to the hole that Ryan’s absence will leave in our lives. That’s not a hole that is possible to fill; it’s just something that we’ll just have to get used to walking around with, and that will not happen for a long, long time.

That sucks. I never knew who the GB guys were by name or anything but still sucks.

I'm just a wreck today because of this. Heartbreaking...days after getting married.

Hanso Amore 07-08-2013 04:02 PM

34? He looks 46 in that picture.

Fuck, I just saw this article, very depressing.

RIP

He was the host of the only podcast I listen to, and basically one of the two people that started my current favorite website on the internet. I've listened to him talk about games for years now, and he was someone I truly respected. He got married in really late June, and died on July 3rd, presumably during or around the end of his honeymoon. I teared up all day about it, and a few times today reading accounts from fans and industry greats. I'm allowed to be sad about him not being around anymore, and I don't give a flying fuck if you think that's weird.

If you're justifying it, you clearly do give a flying fuck.

I'm not judging, so it's also unnecessary. An explanation and context helps, though.

It's only natural, really. You see/listen to someone talk about something you are interested in, especially if they can make you laugh, and you will grow to feel you know them a little bit, even if it's a subconcious thing.

I watch GameGrumps every day* and I watch Egoraptor and Jontrons solo stuff. If, one of them died suddenly, yeah, I'd be upset the way Boomer is upset over this.

*because they upload new videos everyday. I'm not watching on a loop or anything.
