Pick Only One #2 - Favourite Match
 

So edition one of Pick Only One got a reasonably good response, and I received a few encouraging rep comments (which I'm thankful for), so let's keep this going.

Once all the obvious topics; wrestler, match etc is out of the way, I'll throw some more random things in there, so for now let's just get the 'simple' ones out of the way.

With that said, welcome to Pick Only One #2! Your favourite match!

The rules are simple. No runners up. No second best. No honorable mentions. No joint firsts. No "I couldn't decide between...". This is the thread where we separate the boys from the men. Where you have to suck it up, grow a pair, and pick only one answer. Got more than one favourite? Well, tough shit, coz only one of them will be mentioned in this thread.

Benoit is one of my all-time faves, and at the time it really was now-or-never as to whether they would pull the trigger and make him champ or not. The match was great. The drama was great. The hype was great and the result was one of the greatest moments in wrestling history, which sadly no longer exists.

Hogan vs Rock Wrestlemania 18

Gonna go with Rammsteinmad on this one

For some reason an image of Hulk Hogan fighting an actual rock and smacking himself with it on the head until he cuts himself open came to mind when I read this.


I guess The Rock's rebranding into Dwayne Johnson has finally succeeded.

BTW I will go with Taker/HHH at X-7.

Wow really? Never seemed like a "favourite match" kinda match.

Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, J.J. Dillon vs Hawk, Animal, Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, Paul Ellering (War Games I: The Great American Bash 1987)

Bret Hart vs SCSA, WrestleMania 13 for me. The match was awesome, Hart was my favourite at this time, the finish worked perfectly, the difficult "double turn" worked beautifully, keeping them both strong and, and finally, for me, this match really started the story of Stone Cold, which, in turn, changed the landscape of wrestling.

I'll go with Can Am Express (Doug Furnas/Dan Kroffat) vs Tsuyoshi Kikuchi/Kenta Kobashi
-Kikuchi and Kobashi win the All Asia Tag Titles in this outstanding and exciting match

the crowd is so alive and excited during this one.

these All Japan shows from the 90s were something else. They were putting on some of the greatest matches ever.

The more I think about it... Austin/Dude Love from Over the Edge 1998.

Complete clusterfuck of a match but always loved Taz/Sabu from barely legal.

This. I was at that match you know.

I believe you met Jericho at that show too, or close to it. He mentioned it to me.

I'll go with Edge vs Foley - Wrestlemania XXII

Taz debut in WWE to end Kurt Angles streak.

Edge and Christian vs the Hardy Boys: Ladder Match, No Mercy 1999

I don't think I could ever get tired of watching it. Incredible match that launched a host of other incredible matches. The crowd was into it and all four guys absolutely delivered. So much fun to see, even now after seeing the evolution of the match.

Mainly because I was there: Angle vs Benoit at the Royal Rumble 2003

I miss DLVH84.

Lesnar vs Guerrero No Way Out '04 has always been a personal favorite of mine.

I agree with these statements, minus the last sentence or so because I don't care about it "starting Austin" or whatever. Was just an awesome match.

I'm gonna go with Chris Benoit v. Kurt Angle at Royal Rumble 03.

That is one of my all time favourite moments, but not matches.

RVD Vs. John Cena. One Night Stand 2.

Really tough call. Since Inno and Helmsphere already said Angle/Benoit from the '03 Rumble, I'm going to go with my other favorite match of all time:

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Eddie Guerrero, the Title vs. Mask match at Halloween Havoc '97

Okay, fine: definitely Eddie/Rey because that match is just as good as Angle/Benoit, but I can still watch it without feeling nauseous.

I know how to appreciate a great match, but I NEVER thought the drama of a match could suck me in like that. I went into it knowing it'd be good even though the outcome was never in doubt, and instead they churned out a match that had me actually believing the Streak could end. It was the last Streak match to do that.</font>

Wasn't it also the first match where kicking out of Tombstones became a thing?

I think its a personal thing. I had always wanted to buya ppv but my parents never did and for X-7 I whined and begged and got to watch it "live" (they caved in and purchased it). At that time I was "super obsessed" with Undertaker who was my fav wrestler ever and I hated HHH so I was super hyped for this match and for some reason I was thinking that Taker would go out for this match as "ministry taker" to finally beat/kill Triple H.


I watch wrestling more for story than the actual wrestling so that's why this match is my fav. That and nostalgia.

There was one point in that match where Taker was getting counted out, and HBK is heeling it up wanting the ref to count faster. And you know the streak won't end on a countout so you're waiting for Taker to get up. Sure enough he gets up right at 9...and then FALLS ON HIS ASS AGAIN which made my heart jump into my throat before he still got in before the 10.</font>

Bulldog vs Bret Hart, Summerslam 92

Triple H vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin- No Way Out 2001- 3 Stages Of Hell. This match had everything and kept me on the edge of my seat for like 30 minutes straight.

Got to see both in person and both were awesome in person :cool: Now that I got to brag for a sec, mine would be Bret Hart Vs. British Bulldog from Summerslam '92. Awesome match that was full of drama, and even though my favourite wrestler lost, it was pretty much a clinic of Steamboat/Savage proportions.
