Ric Flair bashes Bret Hart concerning Owen's death.

The early word on The Nature Boy’s bio is that it’s the literary equivalent of the Flair-Steamboat World title match. Yes, that good. Quotes from the book (credit to Mike Johnson of pwinsider.com):

“Bret never regained the fame he’d had in the World Wrestling Federation. Part of it had to do with terrible booking, the other part with Bret’s own deficiencies. What unnerved me the most was the way he used his brother’s death. Through his column in the Calgary Sun, Bret relentlessly bashed Vince McMahon. I sympathize with the emotion – and even the anger – he felt over losing a brother, but I lost respect for him when he made the case into a public spectacle. Why didn’t he take the matter up privately with Vince? It seemed to me that Bret cared more about getting “screwed” in Montreal than he did about Owen’s death, and he used his brother’s death to grind his ax with Vince.”- Flair on Bret Hart

Flair seemingly becomes more of a tit everytime he opens his mouth.

Sensei Of Mattitude 06-27-2004 09:18 PM

The Nature Boy has a point.

jindrak 06-27-2004 09:24 PM

That quote alone makes me want to read the bio. Although I'm still debating whether or not I should read Clinton's memoirs.

The CyNick 06-27-2004 09:36 PM

I hope Flair goes to hell

Because I assume Flair knows a lot about what it's like to lose a brother...

Vega 06-27-2004 10:07 PM

If I had any respect left for Flair I would lose some more of it.

You know what they say about great minds and how they think

Zen v.W.o. 06-27-2004 11:26 PM

...

Flair can't stand the fact Bret has a winning record against him.:)

But in all seriousness, Flair seems to be an idiot.

I recall Bret ripping ole a new one, I wonder if Bret might rip into Flair?

He ripped Ole a new one? I did not know that. I know he ripped Jerry Brisco a new one however.

YOUR Hero 06-27-2004 11:44 PM

With all due respect to Bret he did make this too much a public fight.

Why Flair feels it's his business himself to make a statement on it is bemusing.

Nowhere Man 06-27-2004 11:59 PM

I don't know. I think Flair's just becoming more and more petty with this sort of stuff. Foley said bad things about him in his book, and now Mick couldn't wrestle and was never a big draw. The internet fans bash him and Evolution, and now we should all never talk about wrestling ever again because we've never been wrestlers. Bret badmouthed Ole, and not Bret's being immature about his brother dying. Seems he's just been waiting to burn all his bridges until now, when he's too old for any backlash to matter.

Or maybe he's just a dick.

KingofOldSchool 06-28-2004 12:02 AM

Flair is right.

The end.

Rock Bottom 06-28-2004 12:11 AM

Owen's death overglorified him. I mean honestly, Owen was great, and that was tragic to say the least. However, he's not what people pipe him up to be, whether or not he would have had his "chance" or whatnot. That's my opinion on that. In terms of losing a brother, hell yeah I'd be pissed, but honestly it was a pretty freak accident and from what I understand, it occured because Owen hit the wrong button, not to get into detail. Resentment sure, but anger and blame, no.

As far as Bret's screwjob, I'm getting turned off after hearing of it years later everywhere. It was a spectacle. Bret was the greatest ring worker ever, and it didn't need to be as big a scene as it was. However, it did kind of put Vince in the position to ride the wave into being a mega heel. As far as Bret using Owen to grind his ax with Vince, that sounds like complete bullshit.

Either way, I've come to a point where I could give a shit about the "screwjob" anymore. Bret was the greatest ring-worker to date. That's all that really matters.

Flair is a legend in the business, and there is probably an element of truth to some of the things he says. But even so, they are his opinions. His opinions mean as much as people let them.

KingofOldSchool 06-28-2004 12:13 AM

Ric Flair > Bret Hart

The CyNick 06-28-2004 12:22 AM

Two points:

Vince screwed Bret on a live WWE PPV, so in fact VINCE made it a public fight

Second, Owen Hart's wife won a lwsuit which paid her millions of dollars. That right there proves that it wasn't in any way Owen's fault. It was the fault of the people who made the device and to a lesser extent the WWE.

Well then by that logic then OJ never killed his ex wife and current boyfriend. As OJ was found not guilty.

Hey no matter what people think, a jury found him not guilty, so thats all we have to go by. People can have all the opinions they want, but its meaningless.

But this has nothing to do with OJ, the bottom line is if Owen was at fault then Martha would not have got awarded any money. However, as we all know she did, so he cant be at fault.

Batsu 06-28-2004 02:45 AM

It's not so much what Flair said but how he put it that makes me suspicious.

This seems like Vince might have a hand in what is printed in these books... and it almost seems like some boot(or is that butt-?)licking on Flair's part.

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2004 03:32 AM

I think everyone's being too hard on Flair. I didn't follow wrestling at the time everything happened, and I respect Bret Hart and Owen Hart, etc., but I think Flair makes a pretty decent opinion here. Vince screwed Bret on TV because he refused to job. He could have said OK, so there wouldn't be a screwjob. Vince and co. didn't do the most moral thing, but what they did was within reason. Bret escalated it, and made it seem like a crime. When Owen died, I'm sure Bret was devastated, but there was an increase in Bret Hart off screen publicity. I feel sorry for Bret and the Hart Family's loss, but making it into a public fuss isn't the way to go.

I don't want to sound like a asshole or anything, but Flair's opinion has more value to me, because he's seen more in this business and more of Bret Hart then all of us put together. Sure he thinks of himself as a legend with not that much modesty in his voiced opinions, but that doesn't make him any less of a person than someone who doesn't voice their's. I wish Flair and Bret the best in all their endeavours. :y:

Well it could be Owen's fault, we don't know for sure. Martha making money off it doesn't mean Owen isn't responsible, it means that he wasn't found to be responsible and legally he is not.

Again, I don't mean to sound like an asshole, I respect Owen Hart (R.I.P) and I'm not saying it is (I definately don't think it was), but I'm just making discussion.

The editor of the book might be familiar to some of you - Mark Madden. Yes, the heelish "bigger" guy that was on WCW TV as an announcer for a while. He is a local radio personality here, and from what he says publicly he and Vince are not exactly on the best terms. Apparently Madden disappeared from WCW because of negative comments he made on the air about certain wrestlers. After the big buyout, he attempted to talk to Vinnie Mac about a position within WWE, but was flatly rejected. (This is all if I remember the story right - I haven't heard Madden mention it for a while during his show)

Dazz 06-28-2004 10:11 AM

KingofOldSchool has brought up many good points, mainly that the JR impressions are now lame and overused. But also that the fact that WWE and the makers of the device had to pay out millions is irrelevant, justice isn't always done, alot of it is down to who has the better lawyer, but in this case it could easily be down to lack of proof on the WWE and makers of the devices behalf that Owen was to blame, so thats why the decision had to made.

Also Rock Bottom, I agree with everything you said. although you are still a jobber

Fuck Ric Flair.

He's a fucking 10,000 year old vampire - except in his case, he feeds
off the names of wrestlers that people still care about to keep his
name alive. He's old, bitter, and rubbing more asses than Ron Jeremy
did in his prime.

With a career spanning 20,000 years,one would think he'd have a bit
more to talk about than Bret Hart and his personal life. Bash Foley &
Hart, bash the fans - whatever; just make sure to write a whole fuc-
king chapter on how HORRIBLE David Flair was, and why you had him
eating up TV time that REAL workers could have used.

I think there was a lot of evidence that pointed to him, but at the same time there was more than enough evidence to say it might not have been him. If I were on trial facing 25+ years in jail or even death, I'd want them to be 150% sure I did it before I was convicted. So with that in mind, I think the right verdict was passed.

So he is 10,000 years old but his career spanned 20,000 years? Sorry but I think you have your facts mixed up.
