I think Sammy Sosa is done.

I thought so last year, I seem some holes in his approach. I thought maybe it was just slump, but he looks the same this year. I just watched him strike out on a breaking ball that was never in the strike zone and it reminded me of my thoughts on him.

What do you think?

What other players do you think are done, that maybe noone else has noticed or mentioned?

The Miz 08-08-2004 11:16 PM

He is shit now, he has about a home run every 10 K's.

I think Mike Mussina and Juan Gonzalez are done

The Miz 08-08-2004 11:16 PM

Also Richard Hidalgo

BCWWF 08-08-2004 11:18 PM

Sammy is still more effective than most players out there

The Miz 08-08-2004 11:22 PM

If 83 K's in 79 games and a sub-.265 BA is more effective then damn, the rest of the league sucks dick

BCWWF 08-08-2004 11:53 PM

I just watched him K all over ESPN2. He has good power numbers, but yeah only 55 RBI's is pretty shite, then again he did miss a lot of the season didn't he?

Boomer 08-09-2004 12:08 AM

LOL I saw that same pitch. That's the kinda pitch little-leaguers swing at.

YOUR Hero 08-09-2004 12:27 AM

He's too far off the plate.

I think my man, Shawn Green, is done.

BCWWF 08-09-2004 12:50 AM

Shawn Green is coming around now isn't he? The Dodgers are set to walk into the playoffs now too

YOUR Hero 08-09-2004 01:21 AM

I hope so, but he's a shell of his former self, has been for 2 years now. It saddens me.

Another I think is done, even though he was never a huge hit, Hinske.

Heyman 08-09-2004 01:24 AM

Kelly Gruber. :nono:

KingofOldSchool 08-09-2004 01:57 AM

Crime Dog. :'(

KleptoKlown 08-09-2004 04:00 AM

the thing with sammy...really makes you think about the corked bat even more.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-09-2004 04:01 AM

They searched all his bats though. The ones from the Hall of Fame, ones he had on him. All of them (I think it was 58?) came back clean

KleptoKlown 08-09-2004 04:06 AM

yeah, but it really was around the same time.

I still belive it was unitentional, but the timming does make you take a second look.

For all we know, he could have known he was slipping before it showed in the stats and he used the corked bat to compinsate.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-09-2004 04:11 AM

Yea you never know, but alteast you know all his "milestone" HRs where hit with "legit bats"

His swing just doesn't look right, just swings really hard.

ct2k 08-09-2004 09:39 AM

Joe Morgan made a good point about his swing last night and basically said he's just not reaching balls on the outside of the plate, strikes! And that change-up he went after last night was way way out of strike zone, certainly strange behaviour for him.

Jeff Bagwell has hardly been himself this season, same for Shawn Green, Juan Gonzalez has been injured the last few years so its not like he's been around much to properly assess, i'd be surprised if he didn't bounce back. And i hate to say it but Bernie Williams has been in a HORRIBLE slump, he's hitting below .250 right now which is unheard of for him, though i don't think he's finished yet by any means, he sure needs to get things going.

YOUR Hero 08-09-2004 10:56 AM

Bernie isn't done, I don't think. Lots of injuries... he's gotta get over that and then hopefully for him he can still be productive.

I really do think these last couple years, Sammy still ends up with quite a few HRs because pitchers aren't afraid to throw to him, they don't... I dunno... think hard when facing him. So he still got 40HRs last year. Unless Sammy takes agressive action in the off season to regain that touch of hi, I don't think he'll be a 40 HR guy again.

Get carreer numbers though, can't deny that.

Well have you seen Bagwell throw a ball to third? He has needed shoulder surgery all year and has little power in his upper body. But he refuses to have the surgery done until the end of the season.

Gertner 08-09-2004 04:22 PM

Sosa really needs to be moved out of the 4 spot

player I believe are done

Maddux
Nomar(he's a horendous filder)
Pretty soon- Piazza

The Miz 08-09-2004 04:25 PM

He has the 2nd highest career average of ANY shortstop EVER. And I don't even think he's 30 yet.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-09-2004 04:26 PM

LOL how is Nomar all done?

ct2k 08-09-2004 07:04 PM

Yeah that's a fuckin stupid suggestion. Piazza...I kinda agree with partly, i think him going to 1st proves he's not as fit as he once was, although catcher is probably the most physically demanding of all positions anyway. We'll see with him, he's such an awesome hitter i don't see why he couldn't go on for a while even if it was as a DH in the AL.

YOUR Hero 08-09-2004 09:40 PM

Piazza is ok, getting away from the catcher position was a very wise move. Nomar is far from done. Hell he could play another 10+ years yet.

BCWWF 08-09-2004 10:44 PM

Joe Mauer could easilly be done playing catcher that is

You are what we like to call a moron

Moonax 08-10-2004 10:42 PM

Sosa is the sort of player who when he misses it always looks fucking ugly. Thome is the same.

Green is toast.

Andruw Jones is done. He's never gonna be the superstar that people thought he was going to be.

ct2k 08-11-2004 07:24 AM

The arrival of Albert Pujols pretty much eclipsed his status as exciting young NL Outfielder with a hot bat, though he's only done in that sense. I'm fairly sure he'll carry on posting good numbers and helping the Braves or whatever team it is he's on in the defensive department.

Moonax 08-11-2004 01:55 PM

He's not that great defensively. He's ok.

He's never gonna be Hunter. He does just enought to keep himself in a job. He could have been amazing but he's regressed. Doesn't run, minimal power, minimal average.

ct2k 08-11-2004 02:00 PM

maybe the Braves shoulda kept Jermaine Dye and dropped Jones then eh:p

Moonax 08-11-2004 02:53 PM

I was simply saying that he is not going to be the superstar that people and Johnny 'twat' Gould think that he was going to be. He's pretty much peaked. He probably could have been much better but he couldn't be bothered.

He's also a flat track bully. He's great at feasting on crappy pitching but when you need someone to come through with clutch hits - he always chokes.

Splaya 08-11-2004 02:59 PM

Sosa I think is slumping because his sneezes are causing his back to hurt again. I think he is not telling us more than he should be :(

The Outlaw 08-11-2004 04:41 PM

Andruw is amazing in the field IMO.

Johnny Gould ain't that bad :p But his Braves worship is a little annoying.

I say bring back Macklin

Moonax 08-11-2004 07:38 PM

Well he could be worse. I remember when it was presented by Tommy Boyd.

Although the best thing about Gould having such a hard on for the braves is when they get beat. I still chuckle about the world series when they got swept.

Joe Morgan gets on my tits as well. Read my lips Joe - I don't give a shit about Willie fucking Mays being Balco Bond's godfather.

macklin was the man. Todd's teaser ruled.

ct2k 08-11-2004 07:43 PM

Hell yes! Retro!

Joe Morgan is the man, but he does kiss Barry's ass a lot, but he's still the man, so's Jon Miller...And Rick Sutcliffe and Chris Berman, those 4 are my favourites anyway.

And yeah, loved th 99 WS:cool:

Moonax 08-11-2004 07:47 PM

I am actually old enough to remember when the football on C4 was presented by the Vicious Boys (or something like that) - this is pre-Mick Luckhurst/Gary Imalch.

Jon Miller can be a cock with all the Spanish stuff and they can be pretty patronising of the latino players.

ct2k 08-11-2004 07:49 PM

Yeah but i think thats partly put upon them by ESPN.

Chris Berman is probably my favourite infact, just for the totally random things he says, usually when so and so is coming to the plate.

Moonax 08-11-2004 07:58 PM

Well my pet peeve is the attitude towards East Europeans in the Ice Hockey. Mind you Clive Fucknut pissed me off for the same reason tonight.

I get pretty pissed off with the games we get in the UK. We see the Giants, yankees, Cards, Cubs, Bo Sox and Mets. It would be nice to see some other teams. D-Rays, Indians, Twins. jays. I accept that they want the 'name' teams but if we could have them playing someone different it would be good.

I think we get like 50 or so regular season games and it winds me up when we see yanks-bo sox 5 times.

Also, what's the point of them using K zone if every time the ball is about a mile outside the box and it's called a strike and joe Morgan turns around and says about it's close to the zone and K zone is really accurate. I'm like fuck off, it wasn't a strike.

ct2k 08-11-2004 08:02 PM

Its not up to channel 5 its up to ESPN, they shedule it all at the beginning of the season, no one expected Tampa to be anything but shit again this season, hence them being no where on the shedule!

Obviously i enjoy seeing the Yankees and we see them a fair bit...I just wanna see a little more AL ball besides that. More often than not its NL and more often than not that means either Cards, Cubs or Giants or a combo of 2 of em. The Twins have been riding high for a while now and there's no excuse for them not to be on the roster more:nono:
