Like in the 128 mb area? I have heard that ATI is great. Butis there any others I need to know about before I get one?

DS 08-31-2004 09:42 PM

ATI

That's all you need to know.

Ninti the Mad 08-31-2004 09:49 PM

Anything by NVIDIA or ATI that is over 175 dollars. :shifty:

Bo 08-31-2004 09:54 PM

What about this one?

LoDownM 09-01-2004 03:21 AM

That one's not a bad card.

Requiem 09-01-2004 03:35 AM

How much are you willing to spend, is the question.

Bad Company 09-01-2004 04:06 AM

Get an X800
You wont regret it, but your wallet might :D

LoDownM 09-01-2004 04:08 AM

No shit. Sweet ass video card though.

dan26 09-01-2004 04:32 AM

Its faster then x800 pro

Just spend the extra 75 dollars and get this one.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1&type=product

You wouldnt regret it.

Bo 09-01-2004 11:13 AM

Thats sweet but a little to much.

Ninti the Mad 09-01-2004 11:16 AM

The thing is... alot of the newer games are demanding alot more.

By getting a lower grade video card, you are only reassuring a closer date of obsoletion.

Ninti the Mad 09-01-2004 11:16 AM

Besdies, maybe you can try online.

The cards usually seem to be cheaper.

Bo 09-01-2004 11:20 AM

Well I dont play many pc games as of right now so I dont need a reall super duper one. Plus my card now plays dvd horribly. So its manily for dvd and part time games.

Ninti the Mad 09-01-2004 12:27 PM

Then get an NVIDIA FX series.

Middle of the road when it comes to power and price.

I bought an FX 5600 for 150 bucks almost a year ago and its been good to me,

DS 09-01-2004 06:56 PM

Ok, this will keep you under your $175 limit but keep you good and up to date.

If you looking for just a plain videocard: ATI RADEON 9600XT at $164.00
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...102-331&depa=0

If you are looking for some good DVD action and while you're at it, TV with Remote, and still good gaming: ATI All In Wonder RADEON 9600 at $139.99
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...102-345&depa=0

Those are your two best bets. The All-In-Wonder is pretty good, it's for people who really like to use their computer and just want a one stop videocard for everything. The 9600 was when ATI first started killing NVIDIA in the race and the XT is a great series. I would suggest the XT if you don't want the extras but if you want to watch TV and everything on your computer, etc. the AIW is a great card as well.

For your price range, I also reccomend this one. It is a great card, and while it's not top of the line it can still handle some of the newer games.

Heres what I got

And thanks to all for the help.

dan26 09-02-2004 03:11 AM

just hope you do not want to play far cry, doom 3, or half life 2

KleptoKlown 09-02-2004 04:40 AM

yeah, 9200 is kinda the lower end of higher cards :/

but if gamming isnt your primary concern, and dvds are....then its a nice card.\

you would have like the all in wonder card though...super nice.

Buzzkill 09-03-2004 01:17 AM

Not great for gaming, but a good general purpose card.

I have a ATI 9000, and Farcry runs great.

Y2Ant 09-03-2004 01:41 AM

Which ATI/NVIDIA card would be a good investment for gaming as the primary priority, like World of Warcraft :o

LoDownM 09-03-2004 03:33 AM

ATI X800 :)

Any ATI 9600 and up works really well.

I'd actually go with the ATI Radeon 9800 XT. It will save you some money more then the X800 series would, let you max the graphics, and still run a solid frame rate. The reason I say that is I have a feeling, or hoping, that the next series of cards might actually pass the 512 mark. Then put your money to that and you'll have it made.

Anything above an Radeon 9600 will run fine, especially with WoW (I have a Geforce 4200 and it runs quite well)

Y2Ant 09-04-2004 11:43 PM

Nice.

can you set every thing to very high

LoDownM 09-05-2004 04:17 AM

Yes. But I don't. Because my ram can't handle it.

dan26 09-05-2004 04:41 AM

what settings do you run it at

Funky Fly 09-05-2004 04:44 AM

Yeah, I've never ever changed my video card. Pretty sure it's NVIDIA. How do I check it's properties and whatnot in XP?

DaveWadding 09-05-2004 05:12 AM

they used a p4 3.2ghz to benchmarked halo set to max detail on a ati 9000 pro and only got 18.47 fps. So I do not think it’s just your ram that’s stopping you from playing far cry at very high

LoDownM 09-05-2004 02:55 PM

P4 sucks, that's why. We put my video card in my friends pc, which is a AMD 64, and it ran Halo, Farcry, Doom3 fine on high and up. And as to what I play Farcry on. Various, have settings going from Medium to Very High.

KleptoKlown 09-05-2004 03:24 PM

you're comparing a 64 bit processor to a 32 bit processor.

If you're going to compare the amd64 to a pentium processor, you have to compare it to Pentium EE

Otherwise, its like me saying AMD sucks cause their duron processer did shit vs a p4 prescott

Requiem 09-05-2004 04:43 PM

Doesn't matter... RAM has more to do with your gaming speed than processor does.

When I upgraded my RAM for Star Wars: Galaxies, my FPS shot up -big time-, and I have a shit processor.
