Like in the 128 mb area? I have heard that ATI is great. Butis there any others I need to know about before I get one?

The thing is... alot of the newer games are demanding alot more.

By getting a lower grade video card, you are only reassuring a closer date of obsoletion.

Well I dont play many pc games as of right now so I dont need a reall super duper one. Plus my card now plays dvd horribly. So its manily for dvd and part time games.

Then get an NVIDIA FX series.

Middle of the road when it comes to power and price.

I bought an FX 5600 for 150 bucks almost a year ago and its been good to me,

Ok, this will keep you under your $175 limit but keep you good and up to date.

If you looking for just a plain videocard: ATI RADEON 9600XT at $164.00

If you are looking for some good DVD action and while you're at it, TV with Remote, and still good gaming: ATI All In Wonder RADEON 9600 at $139.99

Those are your two best bets. The All-In-Wonder is pretty good, it's for people who really like to use their computer and just want a one stop videocard for everything. The 9600 was when ATI first started killing NVIDIA in the race and the XT is a great series. I would suggest the XT if you don't want the extras but if you want to watch TV and everything on your computer, etc. the AIW is a great card as well.

yeah, 9200 is kinda the lower end of higher cards :/

but if gamming isnt your primary concern, and dvds are....then its a nice card.\

you would have like the all in wonder card though...super nice.

I'd actually go with the ATI Radeon 9800 XT. It will save you some money more then the X800 series would, let you max the graphics, and still run a solid frame rate. The reason I say that is I have a feeling, or hoping, that the next series of cards might actually pass the 512 mark. Then put your money to that and you'll have it made.

Yeah, I've never ever changed my video card. Pretty sure it's NVIDIA. How do I check it's properties and whatnot in XP?

they used a p4 3.2ghz to benchmarked halo set to max detail on a ati 9000 pro and only got 18.47 fps. So I do not think it’s just your ram that’s stopping you from playing far cry at very high

P4 sucks, that's why. We put my video card in my friends pc, which is a AMD 64, and it ran Halo, Farcry, Doom3 fine on high and up. And as to what I play Farcry on. Various, have settings going from Medium to Very High.

you're comparing a 64 bit processor to a 32 bit processor.

If you're going to compare the amd64 to a pentium processor, you have to compare it to Pentium EE

Otherwise, its like me saying AMD sucks cause their duron processer did shit vs a p4 prescott

Doesn't matter... RAM has more to do with your gaming speed than processor does.

When I upgraded my RAM for Star Wars: Galaxies, my FPS shot up -big time-, and I have a shit processor.
