MTV is annoying.
Not Because They don't play Music, Not because they are clearly Democratic, But because they feel the need to keep pressing young people to vote. First it was the ads, Which was fine with me. Then they made the 2004 MTV music awards around voting. ow they inturupt what your watching (Right in the middle of the show) To listen about how Some black persons parents struggled to get the right to vote. Ok I'm white I don't care but thats besides the point. When they do there little voting add they keep rolling the show so you miss something. Thats just my thoughts on it though.

It did a little annoying, but they are the best weapon as far getting it in the heads of young people. After the election you won't have to worry about the ads and you can enjoy 24 hours of reality TV!
|
I'm glad they are trying to use their power of getting into the minds of young people by getting them to do something that could actually change the world. Aside from smacking a ho and whining about your parents. |
I don't get MTV in Canada, so I can't really comment tooooo much, but.... it's good that they're getting people to vote and all. Nothing wrong with telling people to vote. However, if they're all democratic or whatever like you say, I would hope that they're not encouraging people to simply vote for Kerry or whatever. Naturally, I'd vote for Kerry myself, but it wouldn't be really that good if they were telling people WHO to vote for. If they're just telling them to vote, that's fine

Nah, they're just saying, "VOTE OR DIE" and talking about how the hip hop community is much larger than those special interest groups and should let their presences be felt. Savior is taking it as Democrat because black people tend to vote Democrat. |
One of their commercials:
"Jails are being over loaded with you people due to the drug war. Bush says he wants to continue the war. Kerry however states he'll cut spending on the drug war" |

I'm sure you're taking it out of context like they say something Bush will do, then something Kerry will do, to inform the voters. But, I'd have to see the commercial to know the whole story. From what I've seen, MTV has been unbiased, just encouraging others to vote. |

Which point do you want to argue, that they are overkilling it or that it is biased towards Kerry? Overkill, I can agree with, but they want people to vote. We don't want another 2000 election. I find it hard to believe that they will be biased towards Kerry, when I've heard them say, "I don't care who you vote for, as long as you vote" on several occasions. But, it is MTV.. |

Hmmm guess there not doing it while TRL is on.

I totally agree with Savior here. MTV is a bunch of assbags. They're way biased and they stuff the shit down our throats constantly. Is the lack of acceptance of gays so terrible in this society that every reality show has to have two gay guys in it and inbetween the reality shows we have to have a couple made for tv movies about a gay kid getting beat up by the ignorant homophobes who are so ashamed of their inability to come out of the closet that they have to react violently to those who have?
And I've seen the biased comercials too. It's like they say it like: "War kills people....you're a person....Bush started a war that killed people and you're a person. Kerry hasn't killed anyone willingly." or "Some raped people have babies who are the seed of pure evil. George Bush wants you to preserve the seed of pure evil in your womb and give birth to it so it can cause suffering to the world like Osama Bin Laden, who is also evil. Kerry thinks that you should be allowed to destroy the seed of pure evil that is parasitically destroying you from the inside." or "Underage drinking and doing illegal drugs sure are fun. Bush thinks that you shouldn't to this and so you aren't worthy of having any fun. He wants you to be miserable. Kerry says that every young voter should have fun and live a joyful life." Ok, so they're not that bad...but they're still pretty bad. |

Sorry you have to miss 30 seconds of trash tv every hour.. TRL :nono: |
I have hated mtv for a long time. They say vote for something but that something has to be kerry. I hate them so much. They are very biased and I think that mtv are doosh bags that should just play music instead of all there shitty programs.

That whole the only reason we have are president comerical is cause we losted flordia by a number I forgot how many Let not let this happen again. Applying They want you to vote for Kerry. I think that sends the wrong message. I think it is suppose to make ppl feel there vote counts but they make it sound like you have to vote kerry. And I hate all the tv programs on there. They never play any music. Trl does not even show videos any more. Well they do but like 1/3 of if.

I have to agree with Savior and Tusconspeed here. THe MTV commercials are pretty biased, although I think the commercials are geared toward reaching a subset that most politicians bypass. No, not young people. Stoners.
Since there's been people asking for examples, I somewhat recall a commercial criticizing all of the anti-drug laws passed under the Bush administration. The clear implication was that if we had four more years of Bush, then it would make life harder to be a stoner. While I somewhat applaud the sentiment for reaching out to what can be argued as a minority (stoners), the commercial doesn't factor in the fact that Democrats also voted for those anti-drug laws, and frankly things would probably not change under a Kerry administration. |

On a side note, if you change over to BET, they are completly biased toward the Democratic party. They onlly air Democratic adds and have that commercial with breakbushoff.com advertised.... |
On a related topic, did anyone see last week's South Park where Stan asks Sean Puffy Combs what the hell he means with his slogan: "Vote or Die"?
He echoed my sentiments exactly. |
It means exactly what it says *cocks gun*

Wait wait wait
In responce to.... Originally Posted by Savior One of their commercials: "Jails are being over loaded with you people due to the drug war. Bush says he wants to continue the war. He says too much of tax payers money is going into the jailing system for stupid stuff, hope theres your proof... |
I'm pretty sure MTV's base audience isn't stoners, its teenage girls.
Also, garageband geek should be banned for not knowing how to write a sentence. |
Honestly, it doesn't matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican. If you willingly do not vote, you are pissing on everything that your parents, and their parents' parents, and so on, fought for you to have.
|
Getting young people to vote is a BAD IDEA. They are not educated enough about the candidates to have a valid opinion of their own for the most part. In most cases, it's basically "Daddy votes democrat, so I will too." For every intelligent man whose vote should mean the most, there's an ignorant teenager who picked randomly and cancelled out that man's vote.
|
That's exactly why these programs are airing these shows and sometimes bits and pieces of the debate. It's impossible to inform a first time voter of every little thing their first time, but I guess theres a first for everything...
|
I agree with Savior and everyone, it is clear to see MTV is biased.
Example: War breaks out in Iraq, first thing MTV does is show clips of the Audioslave guitarist with a "how much blood for oil" sign. Then they go to celebrities voicing their opinions about how Bush is wrong. Next they show a clip of them talking to an Iraqi teenager, in his home. |
