So evidently Ivory made some comments about 9/11 and shit...

Quote:

Since minutes after the comment on television, Ivory’s tasteless use of 9/11, partially as a tongue-in-cheek joke and partially to further the Muhammad Hassan angle, has been stirring controversy. Fans have left hundreds of emails and message board posts complaining about the statement. PWInsider.com offered the following transcript:

“(A graphic hyping the debut of Muhammad Haasan appears on the screen)

Grisham: Also tomorrow night, Muhammad Hassan makes his debut, in the ring on Raw.

Ivory: Well, you’re going to be there, right?

Grisham: Yes.

Ivory: I’m just asking, how are you going to get to Huntsville?

Grisham: I’m driving.

Ivory: Good, because I don’t want you to be flying, if you get my drift. “

Obviously, the joke was intended to associate Hassan and Daivari with the 9/11 tragedy that left 3000 Americans dead. Before beginning the angle, WWE issued a statement that seemed to imply its plans to maturely handle the scenario and not mar the storyline with tasteless statements, such as the one made by Ivory. If so, the company failed.

There is talk that Ivory’s statement might be used by the two on RAW as an example of Americans immediately associating Arabs with the 9/11 attacks. However, the fact that Ivory comically made her statement during a family timeslot cannot simply be justified as being “part of an angle.” It seems that the angle that has already offended so many people continues to get worse as the weeks go by.

If it's used tonight, then it was on purpose, and besides Heat isn't exactly a family show.

ColdwaVer 12-13-2004 08:10 PM

Ok, the show wasn't live, therefore WWE made a specific decision not to cut the comment, therefore I'm inclined to beleive they don't mind. I think the angle is stupid and just begging for trouble, but since they went with it, this sort of stuff can't really be condemned over any other part of the angle.

Xero 12-13-2004 08:16 PM

I really couldn't believe it when I read it. WWE stoops to new lows again and again. :nono:

Actually, this was the live edition of Heat since it was on a PPV night. I don't know if it was scripted or not. If it was, shame on WWE, if it wasn't, shame on Ivory.

John la Rock 12-13-2004 08:17 PM

I blame Vince for Ivory's comments because it was a stupid gimmick to begin with. There is no business for even mentioning the events of 9/11

Thriller 12-13-2004 08:18 PM

actually the heat before ppv is done live so there goes that thought? But i could see Vince using it to his advantage espicially if people are complaining.

Bad Company 12-13-2004 08:19 PM

oh wahhhhhhh

Fryza 12-13-2004 08:21 PM

Meh. It may be tasteless, but I simply don't care.

MVP 12-13-2004 10:17 PM

The comment doesn't offend me, but it was definitely poor judgment on her or the writers' part to say that on TV.

VJW 12-13-2004 10:19 PM

Don't really give a fuck about the comment to be honest.

Ah, forgot about the live heat before PPV thing.
Still, I can't blame Ivory anyway; if the line was scripted, then she was just reciting it, if not, she was just making a comment in line with the gimmick. The comment was no more offensive than anything Hassan has spewed in his promos in any case.

mitch_h 12-13-2004 10:44 PM

Eh, Homicide once told the fans that he wished it was them that died during September 11th... and this was in New York. I'm pretty sure the date of teh show was September 11th as well.

Mr. Nerfect 12-13-2004 10:50 PM

Holy shit!

I didn't know hundreds of people watched Heat.

Seriously though, I don't really find it offensive. Granted I'm not American, but it was more of a comment directed at Muhammad & Khasrow, not really relating back to 9/11. Sure she/the writers probably had it in mind, but I wouldn't look too deep into it.

Yes. Pretending it never happened is the best course of action. :p

WWE is getting what they asked for. They had the opportunity to avoid stooping to the level of...well...the guy in the Oval by introducing an Arab-American character who wasn't a heel. They could have depicted an Arab-American as something other than an anti-American "bad guy."

They made their bed. Ivory's forcing them to lie in it.

Mr. JL 12-13-2004 11:37 PM

Who fucking cares

Shaggy 12-13-2004 11:46 PM

I dont even think I would think of it in that way if I was watching her say it on TV. Mainly for the fact is that I dont watch anything with Ivory on it and when I do I dont really care to hear what she is talking about. This is just something that the fans are just taking out of proportion.

Savio 12-13-2004 11:52 PM

I want to lie in a bed with ivory to LPD.

Mayo 12-14-2004 12:35 AM

Its a fucking angle. The WWE has flirted with necrophilia, dragging a coffin from a hearse, and lots of racial stereotypes in the past, so it should not be surprising that they are doing this.

I-Hate-You 12-14-2004 01:42 AM

What's even funniers is WWE will be doing a show for the troops in acouple of weeks, yet here they are, putting on a gimmick about 9-11.

That didn't sound right, but I'm going with it anyway.

Gouda 12-14-2004 02:42 AM

I have nothing against Hussan's gimmick and actually loved his work on Raw this week but this statement by Ivory I do not approve of as it just reinforces what Hussan is talking about.

Yeah, just treat it as some other group of people causing a fuss over WWE because there is the slightest cause to.

If Ivory ad-libbed it and it wasn't part of the angle, surely something would have been said on WWE.com about an apology for out-of-turn comments.

If it was scripted, then Hussan will get revenge plot-wise. I just hope they don't do something stupid like have him try and crash a helicopter into WWE HQ (although after seeing that play in my mind, it could be quite funny if they did it like Sideshow Bob flying the Wright Brothers plane in The Simpsons)

Dave Youell 12-14-2004 06:47 AM

I guess we will find out who's idea it was on the next Heat show, If Ivory aint hosting she's in the shit

The next PPV Heat show, anyway. ;)

Anyway, I found the comment to be downright hilarious, and as for it "just enforcing what Hussan is talking about", that's not a bad thing. :D That's a good thing. :D

A good heel needs to feel justified deep down in doing what he does.

Me neither.

Americans tend make even the smallest things reach universal levels. Just think of Janet Jackson and her nipple... I'm surprised they didn't make Passion of the Janet instead Passion of the Christ.

Corkscrewed 12-14-2004 02:10 PM

This just in:

Ivory pins JBl on a SmackDOWN! House Show to become new WWE Heavyweight Champion.

:shifty:

Gertner 12-14-2004 06:46 PM

Ivory is the most god awful annoying person in the world. her stupid facial gestures, and talking like a used car salesman just makes me turn the channel.

The Mackem 12-14-2004 06:57 PM

Hardcore Holly offends me more.
