Big show vs sumo?

Just seen smackdown and it looked like they were setting a match up between big show and that big sumo guy who was at raw in japan, think his name was akimono or something. Probably end up being set up for mania, anyone know if this is a one off or have they actually signed this guy?

Loose Cannon 03-04-2005 08:40 PM

yea, it's definately a possibility. His name is Akebono and he's like some 7 foot sumo guy. Problem is, he can't work for shit or so I hear. He worked for some other company. K1 or some shit? I forget.

Oh and it's a one time thing.

Gerard 03-04-2005 08:43 PM

So he 7 foot and 500lbs, hmm wonder why vince looks like having him at mania :shifty:

Xero 03-04-2005 08:45 PM

I bet that he's going to be the next Yokozuna if he's signed with the WWE...

E. Honda has made it to WWE. :D

Loose Cannon 03-04-2005 09:22 PM

LOL

What the hell did he say when he did that torpedo dive?

SuperSlim 03-04-2005 09:27 PM

I never could understand what he said but it sounded like

"ooot hoyt"

Boondock Saint 03-05-2005 03:56 AM

LOL @ E. Honda

Corkscrewed 03-05-2005 04:05 AM

Wait, are you serious that they're gonna set up a match between Show and Akebono??? He's a frickin' sumo legend, not a wrestler. WHY, Vince, WHY??? That's like ten minutes that could be invested into a killer Cruiser match or open.

I didn't see SD, so I'm not sure what happened.

The Ravishing One 03-05-2005 04:19 AM

Doesn't that guy post here?

SuperSlim 03-05-2005 07:46 AM

I was wondering if they were actually serious about gettin that guy to wrestle. If so then it is one very sad day

M-A-G 03-05-2005 09:03 AM

Yes, they are serious about it. Why? Who really cares, not like it's the only dumb thing they've done.

Yeah, I even mentioned it here a month or so ago (whenever they had their Japan show).

Well it's still questionable what "Rockgurl" looks like, but we believe that "she" may actually be an obese male virgin.

Gouda 03-05-2005 02:26 PM

*predicts a ring collapse*

Danny Electric 03-05-2005 02:54 PM

Didn't Bob Sapp knock this guy out in K1?

I saw that episode.... but I just figured it was just a one-time celebrity appearance... like when they point out some famous football player sitting ringside.

Man, this is gonna be horrible. :(

Sepholio 03-05-2005 03:53 PM

I don't neccesarily think it will be horrible at all. I mean they tend to have celebrity or athlete appearances, and at least this time they got someone with a background in some type of fighting (sumo) than football players or Pete Rose.

If hes a legend in sumo, he can't be ENTIRELY unskilled, just give him a chance, they might pull of something decent in the end.

Ha, I doubt it.

Naw, it's not Wadding. Akebono's penis is said two times smaller than the average man.

That would be giving Dave WAY too much credit...

Gone Mad 03-07-2005 01:58 AM

Hmmm, I do like this possible hinting of a WWE v. TPWW v. Capcom fued. Think of the other potential fueds coming from this. Hmmmm....

Unless it's the main event *which is won't be* that won't happen.

It's quite obvious to me why they are doing this, they are tapping into the Sumo market in Japan, I must admit I know very little about Sumo, but from what i've seen it's quiet popular so having a sumo wrestler at Mania will increase the Japanese buy rates.

SuperSlim 03-07-2005 08:02 AM

this WM is gonna be huge with that sumo guy. WWE plannin ahead?

Kane Knight 03-07-2005 10:05 AM

They should book Big show vs Shamu.

I mean, Show couldn't keep up with a Sumo wrestler. Now a beached whale...He might have a chance.

jnb3599 03-07-2005 12:57 PM

i love how you guys think bad writers and a sloppy gimmick = a guy having no in ring skills. Is show the greatest wrestler to ever put on boots, of course not. But who is? I think everyone agrees on who the best wrestlers are. But when you have a 7 foot guy who used to do dropkicks, who will take a powerbomb to help put a guy over or ride on the back of his father's coffin for an anlge; you have a good worker. Big show has long history of being difficult in WWE locker room from when he came over a bit big headed from WCW, but I think now he has been humbled and is willing to do what he needs to do. But as far as my 2 pennies is every wrestler right now is suffering from poor backstage direction and writing and it is not neccesarily the workers

Just John 03-07-2005 01:01 PM

expect it a wrestlemania one off

Crashnburn 03-07-2005 01:15 PM

Everybody's talking about this like its going to be a pro wrestling match but I have a feeling that its going to be booked as Sumo Match. Think about it. Akebono is not trained as pro wrestler but he is Grand Champion of Sumo wrestling, and Big Show while not trained as a Sumo wrestler the sport of Sumo is essentially (and when I say this I'm not trying to put down the sport of Sumo or belittle it) trying to push your opponent out of the ring or cause them to fall over. So it would be much easier to book these two in a Sumo match. It just seems to make more sense this way.

Disturbed316 03-07-2005 03:41 PM

Yeah, but were either of the men actual Sumo? Nope. I'm not saying it's going to be great but I do think it will at least be entertaining.

ewwww... just got mental picture of Show wearing Sumo gear. Remember when he came out as "Showkishi"?

The Naitch 03-07-2005 04:22 PM

is he actually 7 feet tall?

I wonder what would happen if Big Show tried to compete as a legit sumo wrestler? Do you have to be japanese? Sure he's white but then again Akibono isn't japanese either, he's Samoan I think

Disturbed316 03-07-2005 04:32 PM

Yokozuna was Samoan.
