What if "outside happenings" were Subliminal Messages?
Everyone knows the Wrestling industry isn't as strong as it was in the past, what if the company were to take things to the next level, to create false "happenings" to get people's attention.
Imagine if anything that happened outside of the ring was planned, the things that happened to the wrestlers, all apart of the act. There could be a super tight information line that only the people involved would know about and of course the Writer and/or the Owner, this could be another way to get people to watch more often, I don't know, what do you think? |
Yea, I've been thinking a lot about this too.
Case in point: The whole Edge/Hardy/Lita thing. What if it was all planned and they were just using an outside "feud" to build a wrestling feud. Problem is: We (internet fans) are the only people that read about wrestlers "outside" lives, so why would they do it if they are only reaching a small group. |
Wasn't this one of the reasons why WCW flopped? Too many 'smark' jokes and storylines that a lot of the people didn't understand or appreciate?
Hell, otherwise everyone at RAW on monday would've been chanting 'you screwed matt' not just the minority. |
It would probably end up a sad attempt to try to get more fans by trying to return to the era before "sports entertainment." Like Flair said in his book, back in the day, if bitter enemies were seen traveling together and being friendly, it could "ruin the business."
I think it'd be hard to pull something like that off though. Granted, some people think/thought that the whole Edge and Lita affair could have been something like that. With the internet, if they tried something like that, word would obviously spread quick. At the same time, most internet fans are to smart at this point to be honestly fooled repeatedly if they were to try it. Also, it would suck to be one of the wrestlers than. Think about it. If that had to run their everyday lives like an angle. Some have done it voluntarly, like the Sandman in ECW, where he stayed in his house for weeks and wouldn't let anyone see him. Still, I think it'd be to much to ask a wrestler to do, especially when most people would see it as another angle anyway. |
Why would they put that much energy into this sort of thign when they don't put any energy into the rest of their programming?

KK's got a point there.
KK 1 Everybody else 0 Me -1 |

Subliminal messages will kill the company, I think. The only thing that'll bring WWE big again is competition.
WWE is insulting the fan's intelligence if you ask me. Vince steered away from that stuff in the late 90s..he publically stated it. Now they seem to be going back in that direction again. |

I personally think the whole Matt Hardy/Lita/Edge thing is a work. If it isn't, Matt is a whiny little bitch lol. Also, I think the tension between management and Lesnar is a work as well, so they can actually pull off a surprise return for him without internet fans getting the word out in advance. |
