You can find it (plus all of their descriptions/justifcations for their picks) at http://www.time.com/time/2005/100movies/. Let the debating begin. |
I've heard about 5 of those.
sad that only 5 (technically 7) are from this decade
I know that a lot of really great movies were made before 1950, but you have to wonder if a lot of those movies wind up on those lists because it makes the critics look "cultured."
And even then, they left off one of the all-time great films (let alone one of the greats of the pre-1950 years) in "Gone With The Wind." |
This list is trying real hard to be artsy. Looks like crap to me though.
Purple Rose of Cairo LOL
Wow I have seen like 14 of those. I dunno they left out a ton of really good ones and what is the deal with finding nemo

By the way, Aguirre. |
A Hard Day's Night... that shitty Beatles "movie"?

Err, some of those are questionable. Finding Nemo? The Fly? A Hard Days Night (although I love it) ? If you're going to put odd titles on there, put something like Back to the Future or Ghostbusters (two incredibly solid movies in their own right). No Braveheart? M? Rebel Without a Cause?
Nice to see the Apu Trilogy, Double Indemnity, Miller's Crossing, 400 Blows, In A Lonely Place, and City of God on there. Overall an interesting list. Lots I haven't seen, lots I have. Some odd choices. |
Wild Strawberries should be on there.
tight city of god is on there and so is taxi driver and a streetcar named desire the one thing that threw me off was that finding nemo is on the list

The Man With a Movie Camera is terrible. Puts me right to sleep it does.
Some good stuff on there, lots of shit I've never heard of and some weird choices. Also, what is the deal with no Shawshank Redemption?
Barry Lyndon is on there but A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket are not. Get the fuck out of here, Time.
I've seen 4 of those.
I've seen 12 of those. Most of them from film class.
that list is bullshit, and fuck those critics that came up with it.
the crow braveheart gladiator saving private ryan the green mile tombstone platoon born on the 4th of july slingblade scarface the matrix L.A. confidential terminator 2 |
They never said their list was definitive. Its mostly to inspire debate. Movies are objective.
Scarface and The Matrix were not that good.

I think Toxic Avenger should be on there. :shifty: |
Finding Nemo? Christ...ridiculous.
where is apocalypse now? and 2001: a space odyssey?
at least Goodfellas was on there, fuck
lol, nice way to pick real movies Time
Why the fuck do they always overlook Gojira (1954)?
That film contains one of the best anti-atomic bomb messages of all time. It's a beautiful piece of art. |
trying too hard.

God, what a snotty list. Time is trying way too hard to sound like they know what the fuck they're talking about. I see Citizen Kane on every list just because it'll make them look cool. You know what? Fuck Citizen Kane. Fuck Lord Of The Rings. And fuck the Godfather.
Probably about 5 of those movies would make my Top 100, which I hope to post sometime this summer.
BlackDawn is there anything you do like?
