*Spoiler* New use for the net?

I was thinking, if this whole Matt/Edge/Lita thing was/is a work, it will be huge. I mean, Edge was stuggling to get heat before all this, and now he's doing pretty good, I'd say. I'd argue after tonight he is the number one heel on Raw.

Seriously, I could see this being just a huge work, and all of the alleged "Dirt Rag" News over the net would have to be re-evaluated. Is it real, or is it just a work by the WWE. Think about it, this could be the best idea Vince (since all of the good ideas are his :shifty: ) has come up with. We could be on the verge of the next big wave of Wrestling.

Then again, there are those who thought the same thing about Montreal, I'd guess...

Corkscrewed 06-22-2005 03:24 AM

This is the third thread devoted to the idea that it's all a work. :p

SammyG 06-22-2005 03:27 AM

No way this is a work

KingofOldSchool 06-22-2005 03:31 AM

After tonight...I dunno.

At the start of this ordeal it was not a work, but after what happened tonight one really has to wonder what has actually come about.

Was Matt really ever fired?

If he was, did they secretly re-hire him?

Or did they just do it to tease the fans?

M. Banana 06-22-2005 03:36 AM

I marked out sooooo fucking bad when his music hit...

Then I fucking passed out when I realized he wasn't coming.

Damn you Vince.

Unless he is still with the WWE... then I love you.

I know, but I was perhaps suggesting that maybe, they have figured out that a new way to create storylines is to use the "Net Buzz." Seriously, would anybody have been chanting "We Want Matt" if we hadn't learned about Lita cheating on him with Edge? What about if he hadn't gotten "Fired"? Really, I was posting from the standpoint of, maybe this could be the wave of the future as far as Storyline progression goes. They have been able to cover most of the Dirt Sheets, and had a hard time with the internet. It would only take one company created ruse to change how everyone looks at "Net News". We have the "Is it Real, or is it Fake?" thing already, if it is true, we'd also have a "Or, is it a storyline?". If that's the road we're going down, I'd be all for it. It may even bring some of the fun back for the fans.

I mean, I know I was thinking, if Matt Hardy's theme were to hit at the moment it eventually did, I was going to go nuts. It did, and I did. The fact it was just a teaser got some excellent heat, after the segment was almost killed by Edge. Maybe we should look at it in two ways:

1. The Net is more powerful than we/they think

2. Using the Net for Storylines is actually, believe it or not, a good idea.

Something tells me, that this whole thing was a ruse, come up with by Matt, to make a bigger heel out of Edge, and get people wanting him to come back. From what I could tell, it worked. Of course, if it is a failure, it was all Matt's fault for trying something so stupid. If it's a success, McMahon's a genius for coming up with such a groundbreaking idea. :shifty:

But again, sorry for coming up with thread #3 for Workitude...

Shaggy 06-22-2005 05:19 AM

After tonight my views have changed big time on this subject.

At first I thought that there was no way but then after what happened tonight im thinking that it really could just be a big work. If so then it will have to go down as one of the biggest and greatest things that Vince has ever pulled off.

FourFifty 06-22-2005 05:39 AM

When the music hit I had to drop the porn I was looking at and finish the job to tha-- :shifty:

Hey! It's not like I was the only one!

RottingFreak 06-22-2005 06:16 AM

People keep saying Edge is getting heat, I think it's more like the "we don't want you on our tv" heat, or "X pac heat". Same thing can be said about Lita.
* Kinda Raw Spoilerish*
The Raw "BOORING" chants kinda proved that.

blake639raw 06-22-2005 10:02 AM

I don't think it was a work initially. I just think that the fan backlash was alot more than they expected, so they may just hire him back.

V 06-22-2005 10:06 AM

i love how edge said "i'll explain later" to the priest

...The problem, of course, was that 99 percent of wrestling fans did not scour the internet for wrestling news every day, and probably only 5 percent of them, at most, had ever even heard of (Sid Viscious almost killing Arn Anderson with a pair of scissors). Russo, however, who lived and died by the Internet responses to his shows, was so surrounded by the medium that he came to the conclusion that every single fan had heard every single inside story that had ever happened in the business. The simplicity of wrestling booking is that it's fake, so you can make up any story you want, and as long as you push it hard on television and it's even remotely credible, fans are gouing to go along with it simply because they enjoy suspending their disbelief. The thing is, you have to push it hard on television. This was not the first of the last angle created on the assumption that fans knew way more than they actually did.... Instead of eagerly anticipating what would happen next, they were instead left utterly confused.

Using the Net for storylines is very much a BAD IDEA.

As for this being a ruse... it's not. Last night proved that they didn't need Matt around to make Edge a bigger heel. Every time Lita says, "I never loved Kane, and I never loved ANY man I was ever with." or any other time they suggest more than what's in the storyline without making it INTO the storyline, they pull off what they intended to do in the first place. It's like when Stone Cold broke his neck. He never had to wrestle because his character never required him to wrestle.

Besides. They can't hire Matt back because there's no money left after the HUGE ratings getter that the $250,000 whore hunt is.

They started chanting boring in the middle of the priest's spiel. I don't think it was directed at Edge.

Personally, I thought the whole segment was awesome.

I was getting all teary eyed at that part...but I always cry at weddings.

Seriously though. Could they have even TRIED to make the wedding more classless? Having Edge come out wearing a leather tie with a skull and crossbones on it and a similar looking cowboy hat. I loved it. The worst Kane did was have a midget as a best man.

The only way they could have made it better is maybe with a few cameos. Have Gangrel be Edge's best man and drink blood during the ceramony or have Essa Rios come out to give away the bride.

TerranRich 06-22-2005 11:25 AM

Everybody who now thinks the Matt/Lita/Edge thing is a work is an idiot. You think WWE made up all those rumors about Matt working for ROH and perhaps TNA? You think WWE is stupid enough to use the Internet for a storyline? You think Matt Hardy would risk alienating all of his goofy ass fans by pretending to be hurt and depressed on his web site? Seriously, folks, think it through.

WWE released Matt Hardy. They're fucking with the smarks by mentioning Matt Freakin' Hardy and showing his titantron entrance as a tease. They own the video and theme. And they can use his name as long as it's not slanderous. Last night was a big "fuck you" to the Internet community, as if to say, "Yeah, that's for not buying into OUR storylines." WWE fired Matt Hardy because his bitching was threatening to override WWE's storyline plans. WWE had to either alter their plans to fit the Internet stories, or get rid of the problem. They decided against copying what helped to kill WCW and released Matt Hardy instead.

That's the end of it.

LOL! Seriously, that would have been pretty cool.

I can't believe it took that long to point out that it had been done before and failed.

Okay, but look at it this way.

Prior to this, Edge could only draw heat by being a face. He's getting a reaction now, and that's all the WWE cares about. Hopefully he gets more boring chants instead of heat, so maybe the WWE will take the fucking clue.

Vince doesn't play to the internet, since we are the small minority of the fans...you know like 2% and we're all 12 year olds in our parent's basement.

Apparently, the two per cent who goes to Raw. "YOU SCREWED MATT!"

:Shifty:

Innovator 06-22-2005 12:43 PM

Yeah, the 2% travels in a herd from RAW to RAW

Chavo Classic 06-22-2005 12:47 PM

I still think it's pretty monumentous that the WWE has broken Kayfabe and admitted that there's more to the Lita/Edge/Matt/Kane situation that is portrayed in the storyline on television.

That is unless it was a reference (for all the marks to understand) when Matt was Lita's original boyfriend before he was screwed by Kane and pushed off the ramp and the first wedding.

Come to think of it, the WWE is in a bit of a muddle. What are they actually trying to say by playing Hardy's music at Raw?

A little. But then again, do they still have Brett Hart merchandise in the Shopzone too?

Nark Order 06-22-2005 12:53 PM

Not shirts and such.

I dunno, just seemed wierd.

Didn't someone just say that TNA was still selling Kid Kash merch?

Isn't it possible they simply have not run out yet? What, they're gonna throw out their supply?

Like that scene out of the Simpsons...

Man at edge of bottom-less pit - "I was a fool to think that people wanted <s>naked photos of Whoopi Goldberg</s> Kid Kash merchandise"

*Throws box into pit*

Man - "What the...." *Box is thrown back out the pit*

Then why was Matt on the phone to his lawyer immediatly following that segment?

No, and that shit wouldn't be left over from 8 years ago if they did...

Also, the WWE almost always puts their fired talent's merchandise on sale, usually about 50% off. They had Austin shirts for $15 the last time he was released...

Mabye they wanted to portray an Undertaker return to it all next time the ring will be shaking and matt facts will appear on the titantron

Innovator 06-22-2005 03:00 PM

After thinking about it, that could have been WWE trying to gauge a reaction that Hardy would get upon returning. The pop was pretty big when his music hit, it probably would have been bigger if he actually showed up. Who knows...

Exactly. You hit the nail right on the head. Everybody that believes this whole Matt/Lita/Edge "Springeresque" love triangle is a work should read that post because you summed it up perfectly. Especially about last night being a "big fuck you to the Internet wrestling community". THose are the exact words I thought of after Matt Hardy's music played. I knew that was gonna happen, just a few seconds before his theme played I was sittin' here saying "Whoaaa Yeeah" (the opening line of Hardy's theme) because I knew any minute that music was gonna play. I think it's quite funny that everybody actually thought Hardy would show up. WWE will probably never work a storyline based on Internet "dirt sheets". If this whole thing does turn out to be a work then I'll......wait, no I won't because it's NOT A FUCKING WORK.
