"The King" to be released???

Credit: PWTorch.com Newsletter

With the recent addition of The Coach to the RAW broadcast team, some speculation is taking place within WWE that Jerry Lawler could be moved off the team or even released by WWE possibly. The overwhelming opinion of Lawler in WWE is that he is seen as overpaid of what is asked of him and many feel The Coach can fill his shoes for a much smaller salary. It should be noted that Coach is said to be more popular and social with key members of the WWE production staff than Lawler is at this point.

KingofOldSchool 07-10-2005 11:46 PM

Lawler is a good guy and very smart about the business.

He should at least be moved to a road agent position.

Corkscrewed 07-10-2005 11:52 PM

How about they just get some good announcers period. Not good by comparison, but actually good.

There's an idea...

Zen v.W.o. 07-10-2005 11:53 PM

The Coach, even though lawler can be overbearingly annoying at times with his commentary, especially when women are on screen, is no better. I actually cant stand the Coach.

Although if he'd replace Cole, I'd be fine with that.

Innovator 07-10-2005 11:58 PM

Its more of a wake up call than anything

Ruien 07-11-2005 12:01 AM

They need to have him be a damn heel anouncer again, man I loved him then.

Kane Knight 07-11-2005 12:02 AM

HEre's a thought: When someone is involved with Tuff ENough, they generally get airtime.

The Diva Search, maybe it gets similar treatment.

Maybe Coach is out there for the timebeaing BECAUSE of the Diva Searc?

Nark Order 07-11-2005 12:14 AM

Coach is much better IMO

Could that mean Al snow will become a third broadcaster when Tough Enough is back on Smackdown?

Kane Knight 07-11-2005 12:18 AM

And also, if they're gonna fire anyone, make it JR. Lawlers>Coach.

Actually, if he replaced Cole, that would actually be a step in the WRONG direction.

I detest The Coach.

Is your hatred of Coach pure though?

But I have to agree...the heel turn of the Coach has made him go from somewhat entertaining to totally annoying. And the sooner he's off my TV...the better.

PullMyFinger 07-11-2005 01:28 AM

I like the Coach now that he's heel. He went from being a funny goofball to being a funny heel goofball. He's not that bad. However, there definitely needs to be a major change as far as commentating team goes. I'd send JR out first, then Lawler.

El Santo 07-11-2005 01:31 AM

Forget Coach. Bring in Bill DeMott. It's been too long since I've seen DeMott's Turning Point.

Chavo Classic 07-11-2005 04:11 AM

what El Santo said

Vietnamese Crippler 07-11-2005 04:35 AM

JOEY JOEY JOEY JOEY

Someone was bound to do it :o

V 07-11-2005 04:42 AM

Heyman and JR were the best

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 07-11-2005 04:48 AM

Those are both awful options, but I think I'd opt for Coach over Lawler. Really, all the WWE announcers should be replaced by people that don't suck, though Smackdown's team is much better than Raw's, and I don't really mind them.

Xero 07-11-2005 07:56 AM

Replace Lawler with Heyman, you can't get much better than that right now without going outside of the WWE, and even then it's hard.

BatistaBomb 07-11-2005 08:42 AM

demott was a good commentator but damn i miss bill in the ring
i think lawler is the only thing that saves raw so they should replace jr with heyman or styles
coach needs to stay cause the guy is pretty damn funny at times
as far as smackdown's tema leave them alone cole and tazz are the best commentating combo in the biz

The Mackem 07-11-2005 08:54 AM

Cole and Tazz have improved with time, Smackdown's commentary is quite informative...Raw's is generally shit in comparison.

Afterlife 07-11-2005 09:31 AM

Tazz speaks from experience and Cole speaks from the "commoners" pov. Lawler uses sexual inuendos and the other day, JR refered to an inverted DDT as "The Unprettier". I"d say this is one aspect where SmackDown has it over on Raw.

Yeah...I wonder why.

Could it be...That HEYMAN was there?

Let's put it in terms most people here will get.

Look at darkpower's sig. Heyman is Eddie.

JR is the pudding.

blake639raw 07-11-2005 11:49 AM

I wouldn't be too terribly upset to see King go. JR and King have been around for ages, it's time for some new blood. I heard a while back that Road Warrior Animal was gonna try out for an announcing gig. Anybody heard anything on this?

Tiken 07-11-2005 12:39 PM

King is a god! Without the King, there is no Raw.

Kane Knight 07-11-2005 12:44 PM

And here I thought the wrestlers have a role in it.

They almost do, but if it weren't for King's graciousness, they would have nothing. He is so nice to let them put the camera on the ring and only take up the audio portion of the broadcast.

There has never, ever been a Raw without Jerry "the King" Lawler.

Kane Knight 07-11-2005 12:52 PM

So Raw...IS...JERICHO was all a lie? :'(

Yup. That's why no one minded when he was on SmackDown! Raw never was Jericho to start with.

Ahem... remember when King quit and Heyman took over a little bit in 2001 (or was it 2002?)? I miss those days...even if they were only a few days...

That never happened.

That was the Warzone you're thinking of, not Raw.

I don't mind him at all. He's ok. Better than King by miles.
