LMAO @ The "Power" of Hassan (Yes, another thread about him...)

Ok, anyone who's read my posts in the past couple of months know I have slowly turned into a mark for Muhammad Hassan with all the "<b>ALEEYEEEEE...</b>" posts and all of that.

Recently, my antics got me into a heated argument in the blogosphere because a wrestling-head with a little notoriety (i.e., his blog posts get like 30 replies on general principle) got exposed by me for falling for the Hassan "trap". On a review of the (ultimately crappy) Great American Bash, he was ranting about the "terrorists" and how UPN should just go ahead and kill off SmackDown because of it.

It's one thing to think Hassan sucks in the ring and on the mic (which, for the most part, he does, but that's beside the point), but it always... always amuses me to see someone call Hassan lame because he's a "terrorist character". When I go back on them, and point this out (i.e. ask them how they knew the men and black were "terrorists"), they get mad and point the finger back at me. And since on blogs, I post in a Rock ripoff gimmick in which I refer to myself in the 3rd person for S&G, it makes me an easy target for half-witty barbs. No matter how much of a "smart mark" someone is, when it comes to Hassan, at least one person will bring up "oh, well there's a war going on, it's insensitive"... and all I think of is how if it were JBL, HHH, or the Undertaker with the "masked men", it wouldn't even be a thought.

It is then that I realize how great a character this Hassan was. Sucked on paper, sucked in theory, great in execution. If only he had a more interesting wrestling moveset/finisher instead of "WWE Standard" (punch, kick, Irish Whip, clothesline, Complete Shot). Then again, if he did, he'd probably get more people marking out for him...

After all, what WAS it about an otherwise write-off of a midcard wrestler that spawned so much response and YTMND sites? The theme music? I still can't figure it out. Because like Eugene, I wasn't sold on Hassan immediately. Whatever it is, WWE needs to bottle it and use it on more of their midcarders.

Savio 08-07-2005 04:34 PM

I think he's good on the mic....except his squeks

Monster Thickburger 08-07-2005 04:49 PM

I won't miss Hassan. That gimmick is old anyway, they shoulda kept it buried when the Iron Sheik retired. It was bad enough when they had Sgt. Slaughter turn heel during the first Gulf War. And beside the point, if you haven't noticed, crowds don't really get into the USA!! chant like they did back in the 80's.

I'd rather see Hacksaw Jim Duggan comeback that that lame ass Hassan character.

All I can say is to WWE is, good luck if you're planning to repackage this guy. They've probably ruined his career. Davari had all the talent anyway.

^^^^ LMFAO!!

This is what I was talking about.

Hassan does not = Sheik (except for the lame, predictable use of the Camel Clutch) and he DEFINITELY doesn't = "Iraq RULEZ" Slaughter during the first Gulf War. He's AMERICAN, and stresses that all the time (unlike Sheik, who flew the Iranian flag with pride). He has never mentioned Iraq.

and if you didn't see... ANY time Daivari got on the mic, or Hassan started getting in extra whine mode, or any time someone fought them, there were a ton of "USA!!" chants. Ditto for any time Rene Dupree (or when they were around, La Resistance) was in the ring.

THE POWER OF HASSAN IN ACTION!

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-07-2005 06:50 PM

Anyone who says Hassan sucks on the mic or in the ring is a fucking idiot.

Nowhere Man 08-07-2005 06:51 PM

You're getting caught up in the details, Batsu. Just because they never outright said that Hassan supports terrorists or assigned him to a nationality like Sheik doesn't mean the implications are very much the same. Regardless of the fact that the Hassan character was supposed to be American, the gimmick was still very anti-US, considering he lambasted the American culture, attacked the American military, and the American way of life in practically every one of his promos, which puts him in the same boat as Sheik and Slaughter and Volkoff and Team Canada and a thousand gimmicks before him.

Whether it's a Muslim or a Russian or a German or a Frenchman, the "evil ethnic guy who hates Americans" gimmick is played out, racially motivated, and considering the time we live in, in extremely poor taste to begin with.

The "Power of Hassan" has a name. It's called 'cheap heat.'

Hassan sucks on the mic and in the ring. His matches are boring and his promos are predictable. There's really not much more to it.

Yes, if the American way is discrimination, then he attacked it. If prejudice and racism are your ideals, then he probably offended you. If you're wearing a fucking white Sheet, HAssan probably seems un-American.

Don't even start in on the terroristm shit.

Kane Knight 08-07-2005 06:54 PM

Seriously, this is some McCarthyist shit going on here. Loyalty oaths, anyone?

kinglacoste 08-07-2005 07:03 PM

Almost at 70000 posts Kane. You're the bomb and dont let anybody tell you you're not

Jalapeņo 08-07-2005 07:06 PM

When did he say he hated americans?

All I heard was "I'm american too!"

Jalapeņo 08-07-2005 07:07 PM

Everytime KK gets a bj, he posts.

Jalapeņo 08-07-2005 07:08 PM

So he's behind, actually. :-\

UmbrellaCorporation 08-07-2005 07:16 PM

Didn't you all know? If you support the Hassan character, you're a terrorist. Dem good ole tractor boahs down on tha farm don't take kind-like to all of that thar terrorism.

Seriously though, he's great. I'm not crazy about the character, because it doesn't appeal to me. People take shit WAY too seriously. Blew it all of of proportion.

I'd kill to see him again though, in any gimmick. I liked him in and out of ring.

kinglacoste 08-07-2005 07:16 PM

Everytime he gives one???????? Oh ok

The gimmick's un-American because it more or less says all Americans are racists. The fact that you're calling me a racist because I don't like a gimmick that calls me a racist doesn't make any sense.

Nark Order 08-07-2005 07:34 PM

The brilliance of the Hassan gimmick is all of the implications they used to push the gimmick, without coming right out and saying that Hassan was a 'terrorist'. Never once did he draw attention to the fact that he might be affiliated with terrorism and every single week, idiotic fans would come out and label the character. He also came out and said that he was infact from America but hated the way he was being treated, yet every week the morons in the crowd would chant USA. It really exposed the ignorance of American citizens.

I hate people that take the implications for more than what they are. Only when you take them at face value do you really realize how brilliant the gimmick actually is.

The gimmick more or less says that Arab Americans have been the victims of racism since 9-11. The fact that you would even imply that it might support terrorism, or that all Americans are racist, is racist in and of itself. MEthinks thou doth protest too much?

Why are you so quick to jump on the notion that you're being called a racist? Probably the same reason you believe it supports terrorism. You're one of the bigoted fucks it insults.

Or you're too fucking sensitive, and should not be allowed near the internet or your TV. I dunno.

There are not, nor has there ever been TONS of USA chants my misguided friend, unless you count Hogan's run ins. Sure they were audible, but they aren't anything to jump up and down about. They aren't anything near the USA chants that were heard in the 80's. You're REALLY wrong about Dupree and La Resistance, if anything they had some heat, but not because of their characters, it's because they had a lame ass gimmick and the fans knew it.

And your reading comprehension must be lacking, because I in no way said Hassan was anything like the Iron Sheik, I am saying the America hating Arab has been done to death, and should've been laid to rest when the Sheik retired.

Slaughter is American?!?!?! WOW thanks for pointing that out!!!!

No, fuckwit. Hassan is AMERICAN. Hence he goes on to say that he proclaims it frequently. Does Slaughter? No? Critical thinking=good.

Wow, let's get all testy over nothing. If his puntuation was a little better maybe I wouldn't have misread it. Anyhow, I don't ever remeber the Hassan character saying he was American. Hassan is Italian-American, fuckwit.

Hassan is Arab-American, fuckwit. That makes him AMERICAN.

The Hassan Character has never been stated to be Itallian in the least, and he DOES remind us that he is an American. Thanks for playing though.

Kane Knight 08-07-2005 08:15 PM

And I didn't really get testy, I just think you're a moron for getting all sarcastic with the high ground when a little bit of thought would have saved you from looking like an illiterate fuck. :)

Noobs like you make me look like a "POSTING GOD!"

As I remember it, and I'm sure this goes for almost everyone here, Hassan refered to himself as an Arab-AMERICAN in almost every promo.

And IN REAL LIFE he is Italian American, not in character. Fuckwit.

Well, actually, I've picked much more than one sentence out of any of your posts thus far, but I won't let that stop you from your little fantasy world. :)

And I CERTAINLY won't point out the hypocrisy of that complaint. :)
