LMAO @ The "Power" of Hassan (Yes, another thread about him...)
Ok, anyone who's read my posts in the past couple of months know I have slowly turned into a mark for Muhammad Hassan with all the "ALEEYEEEEE..." posts and all of that.
Recently, my antics got me into a heated argument in the blogosphere because a wrestling-head with a little notoriety (i.e., his blog posts get like 30 replies on general principle) got exposed by me for falling for the Hassan "trap". On a review of the (ultimately crappy) Great American Bash, he was ranting about the "terrorists" and how UPN should just go ahead and kill off SmackDown because of it. It's one thing to think Hassan sucks in the ring and on the mic (which, for the most part, he does, but that's beside the point), but it always... always amuses me to see someone call Hassan lame because he's a "terrorist character". When I go back on them, and point this out (i.e. ask them how they knew the men and black were "terrorists"), they get mad and point the finger back at me. And since on blogs, I post in a Rock ripoff gimmick in which I refer to myself in the 3rd person for S&G, it makes me an easy target for half-witty barbs. No matter how much of a "smart mark" someone is, when it comes to Hassan, at least one person will bring up "oh, well there's a war going on, it's insensitive"... and all I think of is how if it were JBL, HHH, or the Undertaker with the "masked men", it wouldn't even be a thought. It is then that I realize how great a character this Hassan was. Sucked on paper, sucked in theory, great in execution. If only he had a more interesting wrestling moveset/finisher instead of "WWE Standard" (punch, kick, Irish Whip, clothesline, Complete Shot). Then again, if he did, he'd probably get more people marking out for him... After all, what WAS it about an otherwise write-off of a midcard wrestler that spawned so much response and YTMND sites? The theme music? I still can't figure it out. Because like Eugene, I wasn't sold on Hassan immediately. Whatever it is, WWE needs to bottle it and use it on more of their midcarders. |
