I'm reading an old Apter magazine and there is an article talking about the feud between Col. DeBeers and Scott "Last Call" Hall in the AWA. And I forgot just how controversial DeBeers gimmick was.

DeBeers was a South African militant and a very racist one at that. His main goal was to rid the world of minorities. And here are some "quotes" from the magazine I'm reading.

That's some heavy shit right there. And yet people were complaining about Muhammad Hassan...imagine the outcry if this gimmick were to be shown on WWE TV now.

im from Durban, South Africa. Never heard of deBeers so Fuck him. as for the truth commision- that came about as a suck up to south african fans because of the first ever WWF tour to South Africa. I got to see Bret Hart wrestle the BullDog. Some south africans held up a sign saying "BULLDOG, TAKE YOUR UGLY WIFE AND GO HOME"

At the end of the tour they did a south africa only PPV - where bret took on and BEAT STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN - this was before his return match at Survivor Series 96 (the one beofre WM13)

Its funny how the the commentators at SURVIVOR SERIES 96 Neglected the fact that bret whipped austins ass in south africa. Owen was a commentator for that ppv - he was fucken funny!

OWEN MOMENT : remember when Bulldog was taking on Shawn michaels for the title at king of the ring (i may be wrong abt which ppv) but owen stands on the Announce table with Slammy's in hand and shouts " You're the best bulldog!" it was fucken funny.

I'm wondering how. First off, only luchadores and Superheroes do the mask thing in the WWE currently. Second off, Kane wasn't all that strong in the mask, either. He was the jobber who hung around with RVD, told the world to suck it with X-Pac, and simply couldn't beat his brother.

All they'd be doing is bitch slapping him again. He's a stronger character now with the serial killer shit, and the only real downside is that he's still treated like the WWE's bitch.
