This gimmick was ahead of its time...
I'm reading an old Apter magazine and there is an article talking about the feud between Col. DeBeers and Scott "Last Call" Hall in the AWA. And I forgot just how controversial DeBeers gimmick was.

DeBeers was a South African militant and a very racist one at that. His main goal was to rid the world of minorities. And here are some "quotes" from the magazine I'm reading.

Well, it wasn't as in depth, but look at the Truth Commission. A stable of white guys from South Africa...

This was definitely more intense, but it's not like it's never been done again...Just never on that level.

I just wish they'd grow a pair again. OFFEND ME. DAMMIT, MAKE ME ACTUALLY HATE SOMEONE'S GUTS.

And not by hiring shitty wrestlers who don't know how to do a full nelson.

Muhammad Hassan ould have been, but the WWE fucked that. Kerwin White may be, if they actually have him use facts to back up him losing his heritage, instead of just doing it try and get him heat.

Being french wasn't really racist. Even if they told us not to fear them for being different, that's more xenophobic, and mostly on the audience's behalf.

Like if Kerwin started saying thing like "Why would I want to be Mexican? im from Durban, South Africa. Never heard of deBeers so Fuck him. as for the truth commision- that came about as a suck up to south african fans because of the first ever WWF tour to South Africa. I got to see Bret Hart wrestle the BullDog. Some south africans held up a sign saying "BULLDOG, TAKE YOUR UGLY WIFE AND GO HOME"

At the end of the tour they did a south africa only PPV - where bret took on and BEAT STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN - this was before his return match at Survivor Series 96 (the one beofre WM13)

Its funny how the the commentators at SURVIVOR SERIES 96 Neglected the fact that bret whipped austins ass in south africa. Owen was a commentator for that ppv - he was fucken funny!

OWEN MOMENT : remember when Bulldog was taking on Shawn michaels for the title at king of the ring (i may be wrong abt which ppv) but owen stands on the Announce table with Slammy's in hand and shouts " You're the best bulldog!" it was fucken funny.

What if Kane could be given his mask back... in a winnning the mask match..
He can then go on to challenge batista for a match at survivor series become the new world heavyweight champ... i mean cmon this man needs some respect... he has been doing what the company told him to in five years, but as far as wwe history goes... he may get released or thrown out of the company like bret once he tries to change a story line...........

So the mask would equal respect?

I'm wondering how. First off, only luchadores and Superheroes do the mask thing in the WWE currently. Second off, Kane wasn't all that strong in the mask, either. He was the jobber who hung around with RVD, told the world to suck it with X-Pac, and simply couldn't beat his brother.

All they'd be doing is bitch slapping him again. He's a stronger character now with the serial killer shit, and the only real downside is that he's still treated like the WWE's bitch.
