64-Bit Computing
Right so my mom just bought a computer that says it's "64-Bit capable" or something. I would like to know more about this....
What do you want to know? You have a 64 bit processor you can use 64 bit programs, if you have Windows XP 64-bit.
It gives you twice as many bytes. WHAT IS TO KNOW, G? |
cool it lady
YOU SEE HOW I DID THAT RIGHT THERE??!?!?!?!
Yes I see. It was extravadanza.
SERIOUSLY, what is it, like color wise?
Yes, it is a slightly darker shade.
64-bit processors allow you to run Windows XP x64 which in turn allows you to run 64-bit programs. What does that mean to you? I means you get faster programs and faster speeds. Thus allowing you to do twice as much as you would with a 32-bit program, what most are still using.
Right now we have 3 computers wired to one router. Once she gets the new one, that'll make 4. Do they make like a super router so none of us lose any speed.

Now if you only said that the first time, we wouldn't be at post #10. |
What?
It won't effect router speeds at all. It has nothing to do with that. It just allows for more memory, faster processing, and that sort. |
Then how would you be making your extravadanza return to the forums? :(
I'm working with you, not against you. |

I am talking nothing about 64-Bit. I am talking about modem speeds you filthy whore. |
You won't notice the difference in 64 bit computing.
^I dunno which question that was directed to, but I will explain the modem thing one more time.
Forget 64-Bit. This has nothing to do with it, I just didn't want to make a new thread. When the modem was plugged in directly to the computer, I was downloading from IE we'll say at 500kbs. Then I hooked a router to the modem, and hooked up 2 more computers to that router. Now I am downloading at roughly 150kbs. Now what I'm curious is, when I hook this forth computer to the modem, I'm sure the speeds would be reduced more, because it has to share it with another computer. Is there like a super router or something that wouldn't cut the speeds down so drastically, or is it all up to the modem and how much it puts out. |
You'll notice it, but mostly just in certain games right now. You'll notice it more when Longhorn comes out.
Are you downloading IE again at 150? Because routers have built in firewalls which can cut speeds at a lot of places. It shouldn't have too much effect on the speeds unless you are all downloading or something like that. |
Well I don't play online games, since I only have a 16mb video card. Yeah my computer is downloading at 150kbs, but if I go and download the same file on my mother's computer (old one), it only goes at like 100kbs. My father's computer I couldn't tell you, but he only uses his computer for work downloads throughout the night. Once my mother get's her new computer in the mail, then I'm going to hook her old computer up for my wife, so she can have her own and quit bitching about mine. That'll make 4 total.

They'll need a huge envelope.
Im running 64 Bit Longhorn, runs no different to 32 bit longhorn.
If I upgrade her to the 64-Bit XP, then would I have to find 64-Bit software as well?
nah, xp64 does support 32bit processes, but they will only run in 32bit. You also need specific 64 bit drivers etc as well.
So basically it's not worth the time/money/trouble?
FU.
My 8-Bit NES > Your 64-Bit Computer |
It's nothing you need now. You'll need it in the future when they make 64 bit programs. The reason you don't see any improvement is because they aren't using it that much now. I know Cimena 4D has a 64 bit upgrade and you can tell the difference there because it uses a lot of power.

Ok thank you DS, you and Bad Company have been most helpful.
Your quest to have every last post on the front page will not prevail. I will always spoil your attempts!
Also, no problem. :D
DS knows jack shit about computers, shut the fuck up
As if your comment helped answer his question.
I was just stating what 64 developers have to say about it. So if I'm wrong, they too are wrong. And what would be the point of having 64 bits if the people that came up with it don't even know what to do with it? |
exactly you dont know shit, you are just doing copy and paste. when you do throw in an opinion its rubbish
Oh alright.
