Your Favorite announcer

:naughty:

McLegend 03-21-2006 01:15 PM

JR

Mr. Nerfect 03-21-2006 02:16 PM

Joey Styles or Josh Mathews.

Mr. Nerfect 03-21-2006 02:17 PM

Why do so many WWE announcers have "J" as the first letter of their name? Jim Ross, Joey Styles, Jonathan Coachman, Jerry Lawler and Josh Mathews. Half the WWE's announce team has a named beginning with "J".

Goulet 03-21-2006 02:25 PM

JR... and I hate that :naughty: Smilie too

What Would Kevin Do? 03-21-2006 02:29 PM

Current Joey Styles.

Overall: Bobby Heenan

wwe2222 03-21-2006 02:40 PM

Currently its joey Styles

overall, its Bobby Heenan

Dorkchop 03-21-2006 02:41 PM

Funaki. After all, he is Smackdown numba wun annoncah.

Dorkchop 03-21-2006 02:44 PM

Of all time I go with Bobby Heenan. Gorilla Monsoon was great too. I'd take Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon over everyone else.

Blitz 03-21-2006 05:16 PM

Play by Play man-Joey Styles
Color man-Don Callis (Cyrus)

Lord-Of-Darkness 03-21-2006 06:56 PM

The Brain. No question to me. I was watching KOTR 93 the other day. I cracked up when JR made a bias comment towards a face(I forget who) and Heenan say 'You've gotta learn where to draw the line Monso..... wait, you're not Monsoon! Sure do look like him though:wtf: '

Seening as the popular choice seems to be The Brain, post some of you classic 'Brain on commentary' quotes.
Personally I miss how he used to do the little drawings on the montior, like tactics, but just a comedy heel insult to the face wrestler in the ring.

Karlsberg 03-21-2006 07:21 PM

Currently my favourite is Joey Styles but overall I got to go with the Brain.

Loose Cannon 03-21-2006 07:29 PM

Tough.

I liked the Ventura/Monsoon combo a little better then Heenan/Monsoon. Ventura had some great lines against guys like Duggan, Hogan etc...

But those 3 are my favorite

NeanderCarl 03-21-2006 07:30 PM

One of my favourite "Brain" quotes was at Royal Rumble '93, during the Michaels/Jannetty match. Sensational Sherri was at ringside, in a skimpy little top, and the storyline was "which wrestler will she side with?".

Well, of course, Bobby claimed she was going to side with the future 'HBK' whereas Monsoon had odds on Jannetty. At one point, the camera panned to Sherri's rather impressed face when Michaels was getting his ass handed to him by Jannetty, and Heenan proclaimed "Look at the concern on that woman's face!"

Monsoon: "Well then, you and me must be looking at two different things!"

To which Heenan quipped, "Well I'm looking at her face, I don't know what YOU'RE looking at!"

I like it anyway.

I can't choose just one announcer, so I picked two in each category...

Favourite ever play-by-play: Gorilla Monsoon and Vince McMahon
Favourite ever colour: Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura.

Monsoon just had such a great chemistry with both Ventura and Heenan, it was so entertaining when they shared the booth. He played the aghast, bemused face role so well. The reason I didn't choose him as best EVER was simply, when he didn't have Ventura or Heenan next to him, he kinda sucked. McMahon had the ability to make ANY match sound like the most exciting match in years. Sometimes it could be grating, when he'd announce a match like Skip vs Horowitz as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but for the most part he really provided a great feel to any match he called.

Ventura was the pioneer in the "entertaining" commentator field, and paved the way for future aggressive, comical heel commentators. He has been described as the ORIGINAL colour commentator and that is spot on. Whether it was McMahon, Monsoon or even Jim Ross, Jesse Ventura provided endless entertainment. Heenan was just hilarious and really called some of the most ridiculous moments with a tongue-in-cheek style. His cowardly back tracking and hindsight, and his blinkered views on the action in the ring, made him a quality successor to Ventura.

Honorable mentions for J.R., Lawler in his prime (1992 - 1999), and Johnny Polo (Raven) who showed muchos promise in 1993/1994 as a comical announcer but alas was not satisfied in the role and wanted to wrestle. I would love to see Scott Levy become a full-time announcer when he retires from the ring, and I would love to see him drop the dark Raven gimmick if this does happen, and revert back to his comical side.

The One 03-21-2006 08:58 PM

Gotta go with the standard...

Play By Play: Joey Styles
Color: Bobby Heenan

mrslackalack 03-21-2006 09:11 PM

Calling a match JR in his prime was great. For humor Gorilla and Hennan was great. Styles solo was incredible and so was Solie except for his constant uh's Vince and Ventura made a great combo as well.

Funky Fly 03-21-2006 09:24 PM

Gotta love Heenan, Monsoon and old school JR.

dablackguy 03-21-2006 11:21 PM

Ventura or Heenan

and maybe mark madden :shifty:

Dorkchop 03-21-2006 11:27 PM

Stevie Ray. Fruity booty all the way.

BobBitchen 03-21-2006 11:33 PM

BAH GAWD GOOD OLD J.R.

I do too. Probably because it should say commentator.

No one is better than The Fink.

Jim Ross

Ring Announcer: The two from ECW

Play by Play: Joey Styles

Colour Commentary: Bobby Heenan

Mr. Nerfect 03-22-2006 01:15 AM

I know it has so little chance of happening, but how awesome would a Joey Styles/Bobby Heenan duo be, just for a night?

One guy that's not getting enough love in here is Paul Heyman. I honestly believe the guy got Rhyno over by calling The Gore the way he did ("GORE! GORE! GORE!"). Heyman would never look past the performers in the ring, and would relate the theme of the night back to them. More commentators need to do that.

NeanderCarl 03-22-2006 01:16 AM

Ring announcer: Brian Howard Finkelman, the legend, Finkus Maximus himself, THE FINK!

He is so underutilised nowadays.

Old School JR was the shit

John la Rock 03-22-2006 08:42 PM

All time - Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler

Right Now - Michael Cole and Tazz

John la Rock 03-22-2006 08:42 PM

I also think that Joey Styles is insanely over-rated

McLegend 03-22-2006 08:46 PM

He maybe overrated, but in ECW he was way better then he is now.

Mostly the 3 man both's fault though

It's a toss up between JR in his early days (pre-WWF(E)) and Joey Styles in his ECW days.

Mr. Nerfect 03-24-2006 07:31 AM

I think all commentators should be given different personalities. Sort of like how wrestlers have different gimmicks.

Michael Cole would really make a great arrogant play-by-play guy. Have him call a T-Bone suplex from Bobby Lashley a "throw" and have Tazz correct him on it, and then have Michael Cole say "Who cares? He technically threw him,". That would make Cole awesome, in my opinion.

Stickman 03-25-2006 11:53 AM

The Macho Man!! Remember those days?

The One 03-25-2006 04:05 PM

Ohhhhhhhhhhh YEEEEEEAH! I remember those days...

And those days were shit. He was a terrible commentator.

G-wrath 03-25-2006 08:15 PM

JR hands down.
