Does anyone else have trouble buying the Ankle Lock on big people?
Specifically, we've seen it several times done on Henry, and it doesn't look impressive or shit.
I've got to say this: I respect what a joint lock can do. I've been put in locks by people half my size which have left me with no option but to tap like a little bitch. I know exactly how beautiful these moves can be in that they do not require you to be stronger than your opponent. However comma, I see them on TV, and it's like, "meh." The pro wrestling belief-suspension doesn't much work. |
I think the grapevined version looks more impressive on bigger men. He should use his standing variant for smaller guys, and the grapevined version for larger guys.
They should have kept the Angle Slam a credible finishing move. That way Angle has a back-up when the Ankle Lock doesn't cut it. |
I agree with that completely.
I was sitting there at the Supershow Monday night watching Henry in the lock, and I thought the exact same thing. It's true about not having to be stronger than the "lockee", but from where I was sitting in the crowd, it looked like Henry could've just rolled and thrown him off. |
But come on. It's Mark Henry. No one could make him look good or vice versa.
|
Yeah, but it'd look bad on any big guy.

Incredible by Henry standards...Shit by Angle standards.

Are you purposing that Angle could carry you to a 5 star match, and can't carry Henry to a 3 star match?

That and with my Wushu backround I could do some pretty spots involving Angle flinging me like a rag doll. That would be amusing from at least a holy shit he's dead stand point. Jeff Hardy marks would love it.
|
I'm glad you think a wrestler could carry a rag doll to good match...damn shame it actually takes two people who know what their doing...hence why WWE doesn't offer you Mark Henry's contract. As shitty as he is, he was kind of trained...maybe.
|
By the way...Mark Henry...trained by The Harts. Tell me you put out better matches then someone The Harts trained.

Wow... never thought someone would take me that seriously on here... :|

Next time...put a :shifty: otherwise it leaves room for confusion.
|
I thought the Jeff Hardy marks loving it comment would suffice and cover the :shifty: . I apologize.
|
I like cheese. :shifty: Jeff Hardy marks like cheese.

As long as the person taking the move makes it LOOK like it's hurting like a bitch and the person applying the move locks it in with intensity and with no visible means for an escape (like Shamrock when he used to sit down with the hold, none of this standing up and elevating the leg nonsense) then yeah, I could buy it on a large guy.

Honestly, I never really found the Ankle Lock to be the most impressive LOOKING hold to begin with. Even with guys Kurt's own size, it somehow appears as though it'd be easy to get out of or avoid being locked in. But, to be honest, I don't see it as any worse on guys like Mr. Henry or the Big Show.
|
A lot of moves look stupid when done to big guys. Hence, why I'm not a Rey Mysterio fan.

For some reason, the Crossface is exempt to this, IMO. |
I took wrestling for a month I could whoop angle.

All submissions in wrestling look rediculous.

The smaller (Or not huge) guys can lift most of their bodies off the mat with their hands while Kurt stands straight up... and even leans back a tad. http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackd...hotos/a223.jpg Guys like Taker and Kane are really tall so when Angle stands up in the Angle lock, they're still on their knees. http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackd...hotos/a197.jpg Guys like Henry and Viscera are freaking huge and can barely lift themselves off the ground and Kurt can't hold them up for too long. The last two examples are when the leg lock Angle lock looks a lot better. I miss Shamrock. |
Shamrock's was incredible...even if I hate the cocky fucking bastard.
