How could WWE compete with the UFC?

It's a known fact that UFC is the realest out of the two. Even though wrestling is very real in it's own respect, it just doesn't compare

I've noticed that they announce the wrestlers when they are both in the ring, as opposed to announcing them as they walk to the ring (ie. Lillian Garcia announcing John Cena vs. RVD on RAW this past week)

I think the key is to get back to the basics. Gimmicks gimmicks and more gimmicks. I kinda wish Vince Russo was back. UFC could never pull of a 'Higher Power' angle. UFC could never pull off a 'gay marriage' angle. UFC could never pull off a 'Let's make a badass black panther stable' angle

WWE is trying to play UFC's game.

Instead, WWE should use what they already have and use the 'fake and scripted' concept to it's full potential. Everyone knows wrestling is fake, but WWE keeps trying it to make it look real (ie Tough Enough, [worked] shoots etc)

discuss bitches

BigDaddyCool 06-29-2006 11:03 PM

Why would WWE want to compete with the UFC? The 2 have nothing to do with each other. It would be like Nascar competing with Monster Trucks.

Crimson 06-29-2006 11:06 PM

Yea they are 2 seperate entities. UFC will take over boxing if anything. Wrestling is stuck feuding with the likes of 'Dancing with the stars'

The Naitch 06-29-2006 11:06 PM

also the characters are terrible

I still can't get over the whole John Cena disaster. Sure he makes money, but he's like Ashlee Simpson or Britney Spears.

oh and off topic, i had a dream two nights ago that Madonna was my girlfriend.

okay, back to Cena. It's been said a million times on here, but IMO, I think Cena would have the same effect as Stone Cold if only he had more edge. We all know it's coming, but they're just milking it. It eventually happened with The Rock in 2003. Patience.

I also think CM has an awesome look. He should go to RAW though.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Triple H turns on Michales again and somehow get The Spirit Squad to be the new DX.

Thank you. I don't know why people are always lumping wrestling, MMA and/or boxing together. There are enough differences to put wrestling in it's own category.

Kane Knight 06-29-2006 11:12 PM

The fact is, however, people do. Demographics lump them together, too.

i know what you mea, but it's like UFC can easily expose wrestling's weakness.

Especially for younger kids. Once thinking wrestling is cool, UFC is alot more edgier and 'cooler' than wrestling. UFC has the power to convert wrestling fans into something greater

The Naitch 06-29-2006 11:14 PM

i think UFC is the current version of what wrestling used to be

back then the marks thought wrestling was real. Now it's obviously 'fake' or 'phony'. Sure the true fans will stay, but whether you like it or not, wrestling is looked down upon

but these days, we all know UFC is fucking real. Not to mention the crazy mainstream popularity of it right now.

McDoogle 06-29-2006 11:16 PM

It's because WWE doesn't have an Andrei Arlovski.

McLegend 06-29-2006 11:17 PM

Or Matt Hughes

Innovator 06-29-2006 11:19 PM

or Randy....or Chuck.....or Tito

The Naitch 06-29-2006 11:19 PM

I've met Chuck

Xero 06-29-2006 11:19 PM

Does anyone have any good UFC fights I could watch or you could recommend? I've never really seen a good fight, just one or two random fights here and there.

Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell, UFC 47

Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg, UFC 52

Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, TUF1 Finale

Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock, UFC 40

Xero 06-29-2006 11:26 PM

Just ordered UFC 47 from Netflix. Got any DVDs I should rent, to make things easy?

Pepsi Man 06-29-2006 11:26 PM

I agree with BDC.

UFC 52
UFC 49, watch the Yves Edwards fight first
UFC 44
UFC 40
UFC 50

BigDaddyCool 06-29-2006 11:31 PM

Ok, demographicly speaking the same people who like wrestling are going to like ufc. But that doesn't mean they are competing against each other. They are competing with each other in the same since that McDonalds is competing with Applebee's for where you are going to eat dinner, but they aren't directly competing with eachother.

Fignuts 06-29-2006 11:35 PM

I think wwe is far more successful at the moment than ufc, if I'm not mistaken.

That is because WWE is a marketing machine. What kind of merch does UFC have and what doesn't WWE sell. WWE is by far more profitable.

Skippord 06-30-2006 12:11 AM

I cant be the only one who hates Tito Ortiz can I?

McLegend 06-30-2006 12:15 AM

Tito Ortiz is the man.

Skippord 06-30-2006 12:18 AM

Yeah but he looks like a monkey on crack with downs syndrome

McLegend 06-30-2006 12:24 AM

That's like Shamrock calling Tito a Bitch Monkey, and that was like the lowest point in Ken Shamrock's career.

Also you wouldn't even know what a monkey on crack with downs syndrome would look like.

Terrible Skippord

Innovator 06-30-2006 12:26 AM

Punk needs to debut, so I can start out-marking Skippord

Fox 06-30-2006 12:42 AM

nobody out-marks Skippord.

Innovator 06-30-2006 12:46 AM

just you wait Fox, just you wait

Xero 06-30-2006 01:11 AM

There is no comparison. UFC is in a league of it's own right now in terms of an entertaining product. A big reason why they are taking a lot of wrestling fans now is because UFC is similar to what pro wrestling should have evoled into in this day and WWE is nothing close. There is room for both to be sucessful but one has respect for it's audience and the other never has and never will.

weather vane 06-30-2006 03:18 PM

THAT HAS TO BE THE FUNNIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN

Why should have WWE evolved into attempting to be a leigitmate sport. Any possibility of that went out the window 20 years ago. I really like BDC's analogy.
