Top bands of your generation.
Starting with the year you were born, go through and think about the most influential bands or groups that you have had the pleasure of being around for.
They could be your favorite bands or just bands that where unstoppable at the time. Come up with a top 10 and post them here. Also, don't just list bands from the States.... go ahead and list the top bands from your country as well. Let's see how many of these way can agree on. The music thread doesn't get that much love... let's get something going in here. Here is my list:

Didn't the Jam break up in like 1982? How old are you?
|
October 7, 1979

Is Joey's birthday
|
So he was 2 when they officially split (It was like 1981). That's not your generation.
But shit, I'm gonna toss in Mission of Burma if I can count stuff that dates back to when I was 3. |
My generation's (Let's say from 1998-today) music sucks. :|
|
Pearl Jam should count, but I didnt exactly grow up with them, other than that, Our Lady Peace is probably the best band of my generation.
|
Incubus
The Mars Volta |

Ummmmm probably Blink 182 is the only band I'd hve on my list since they pretty much inspired any sort of musical anything whatsoever in my life. No other bands really matter to me tbh.

Alice Cooper
Black Sabbath Split Enz |
BTW Mitch's Australia list is possibly the best list ever
|
Mitch knows good Australian music.

Meanwhile, there are a tonne of other bands that most kids our age would list, such as the Superjesus, Magic Dirt, Machine Gun Fellatio, Superheist, Silverchair, Killing Heidi, Jebediah, Regurgitator, etc. that didn't make an appearance either, and I don't particularly rate The Living End that much higher than any of the other bands I just mentioned, save for Killing Heidi. :-\
|
I've stuck to UK bands, and they are all fairly recent, but to be honsest, i've only really started listening to music (by music, i mean not commercial pop" in the last 7 or so years)
Muse Ash Feeder Franz Ferdinand Arctic Monkeys Maximo Park lostprophets Kasabian Snow Patrol Athlete |

Hey, credit where credit is due, they are catchy as hell and good at what they do. "The Living End" was a fantastic CD, and I actually liked "Roll On" more than the self-titled. By the time "Modern ARTillery" rolled around, though, it kinda felt a bit re-hashed.
Still, I gave love to like, every Western Australian band ever, so come on. :( THE SLEEPY JACKSON. :( |
Alice in Chains

Well my birthday is October 9th 1987, So some of these bands are iffy, as they have been around awhile, and may have been before my time, but have released albums after I was born which I heard and listened to thier old albums.
1) Static-X ( My Favorite Metal Band, Buddy had thier c.ds and I liked them) 2) Metallica ( Heard Dirty Window, and St.Anger while not great songs got me to listen to thier older stuff 3) Silent Civilian ( Bought thier Rebirth Of The Temple album loved it) 4) Opeth ( Some of the best metal around) 5) Linkin Park ( First c.d I burned/owned was 75% Linkin Park 6) Rammstein ( Made me want to learn better German, Also "sonne" is great song) 7) Nickelback- ( I started to listen to some of thier music after Spiderman was released (Hero) 8) Creed- ( I will probabily regret this :p but alot of good memories came from thier songs being played) Like KK said these spots are more or less filler 9) In Flames - (I liked a few of there songs, and they are an ok band) 10) Shadows Fall - ( I like some of there songs and plan to listen to more) |
