Exclamation Top bands of your generation.

Starting with the year you were born, go through and think about the most influential bands or groups that you have had the pleasure of being around for.

They could be your favorite bands or just bands that where unstoppable at the time. Come up with a top 10 and post them here.

Also, don't just list bands from the States.... go ahead and list the top bands from your country as well. Let's see how many of these way can agree on.

The music thread doesn't get that much love... let's get something going in here.

Here is my list:

  1. Paul Weller/The Jam
  2. Mother Love Bone
  3. The Pixies
  4. RUN-DMC
  5. The Smiths
  6. Black Flag
  7. Public Enemy
  8. U2
  9. Nirvana
  10. Beastie Boys

- 2010 Stanley Cup Champions -

So he was 2 when they officially split (It was like 1981). That's not your generation.

But shit, I'm gonna toss in Mission of Burma if I can count stuff that dates back to when I was 3.

Paul Weller STARTED with The Jam, but he continued on with The Style Council and his solo career.

*has seizure at mention of the Style Council*

So yeah, why not just say Weller then? Since the Jam was neither your generation or mine?

So anyway, my list:
  1. Queen. Since they continued until 1991 as a whole entity, and their final record was 1995, I'd count them. Hell, I'd count Bowie if I could name more than one hot album he's done in my lifetime.
  2. The Stone Coyotes.
  3. The Pixies. I grew up on their first couple EPs.
  4. Buffalo Tom
  5. Frank Black and the Catholics (I haven't really liked his recent records, with or without the Catholics, but early catholics shit was better than the Pixies even)
  6. Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Of all the people who were called a modern day Bob Dylan, he was the most apt.
  7. Tupac. The guy was gold when he was alive.
  8. The Cure--Who should probably be higher, but I didn't want to lower anyone either.
  9. Throwing Muses.
  10. Type O Negative. I can't think of a tenth band, and they're probably not #10, but they're a solid band and this slot is filler anyway.

Ummmmm probably Blink 182 is the only band I'd hve on my list since they pretty much inspired any sort of musical anything whatsoever in my life. No other bands really matter to me tbh.

1) Metallica
2) Nirvana
3) Offspring
4) Green Day

Welp, that' it. Everything else I listen to is older than 1983. There's newer bands that I listen to but I didn't exactly grow up on Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, Limp Bizkit, I just listened to them while they were hot.

I really liked their first album, but it all got a bit samey after a while. Three guys who went to talented musician school should be capable of much more than three-chord riffs and rockabilly bass lines.

Meanwhile, there are a tonne of other bands that most kids our age would list, such as the Superjesus, Magic Dirt, Machine Gun Fellatio, Superheist, Silverchair, Killing Heidi, Jebediah, Regurgitator, etc. that didn't make an appearance either, and I don't particularly rate The Living End that much higher than any of the other bands I just mentioned, save for Killing Heidi.

Hey, credit where credit is due, they are catchy as hell and good at what they do. "The Living End" was a fantastic CD, and I actually liked "Roll On" more than the self-titled. By the time "Modern ARTillery" rolled around, though, it kinda felt a bit re-hashed.

Still, I gave love to like, every Western Australian band ever, so come on. THE SLEEPY JACKSON.

Well my birthday is October 9th 1987, So some of these bands are iffy, as they have been around awhile, and may have been before my time, but have released albums after I was born which I heard and listened to thier old albums.

1) Static-X ( My Favorite Metal Band, Buddy had thier c.ds and I liked them)
2) Metallica ( Heard Dirty Window, and St.Anger while not great songs got me to listen to thier older stuff
3) Silent Civilian ( Bought thier Rebirth Of The Temple album loved it)
4) Opeth ( Some of the best metal around)
5) Linkin Park ( First c.d I burned/owned was 75% Linkin Park
6) Rammstein ( Made me want to learn better German, Also "sonne" is great song)
7) Nickelback- ( I started to listen to some of thier music after Spiderman was released (Hero)
8) Creed- ( I will probabily regret this but alot of good memories came from thier songs being played)
Like KK said these spots are more or less filler
9) In Flames - (I liked a few of there songs, and they are an ok band)
10) Shadows Fall - ( I like some of there songs and plan to listen to more)
