Dwayne Johnson to drop "The Rock"
 

In another move that signals the end of Dwayne Johnson's wrestling career, he has been noted in a few of the media outlets that he intends to drop "The Rock" nickname by the time "Southland Tales" is released, in order to seperate his movie career from his wrestling career.

Johnson is beginning to promote his next film "Gridiron Gang", which opens nationwide on 9/15, with tons of promotional work in New York City this week.

I believe he will just drop it when making movies, not when he is wrestling.

The Rock as been saying since his first independent venture that he desires to be known by his real name. It was only a matter of time.

He's through with wrestling.

Once his career goes to shit and he uses up all his money on his apparent crack addiction he'll go into porn as "Rock Hard" Johnson.

Better yet, he could just take his daddy's name.

Rocky says he is as much The Rock as he is Dwayne Johnson. He'll never give it up because The Rock will always sell more tickets than DJ.

I'd never hear the end of it. But oh, how fitting....

By the way, I meant to say that I call The Rock "God", not me.

I'm glad to hear that he's dropping the name "The Rock." I wouldn't mind seeing him act under the name Rocky Maiva. He can pull it off because of his family.

Rocky Maivia still has ties to wrestling. Wouldn't make much sense to keep that ring name as opposed to his other ring name.

Actually, this story was called false by a "rumor killer" on some of the very sites that reported it.

I'd rather see "Last Action Hero" staring Rocky Maiva than "Last Action Hero" staring Dwayne Johnson. Rocky Maiva sounds better, and it could be a way of "honoring his family" or some drek like that.

His real name is too much like Dwayne-Wayne. =/

Dwayne is admittedly a dorky name. He should just come up with a manly name, like Dirk Hanson ... or Butch Reckless.

He should take on the name Phil Hiscock

THen in 3 years or so, people will recognize Dwayne Johnson as independant (name)

The Rock is his trademark. He shouldn't disown it. People know wrestling is lame, but they (general mainstream) know Rocky is above 'that' (wrestling). People I know don't like wrestling but they realize DJ is a standout and is above WWE.

Yeah, we already mentioned the rumor killer so he's NOT dropping "The Rock". He was apparently misunderstood.
