Official SS match announcements thread

At Survivor Series, WWE fans will see a reunion, an extreme first and an inter-brand showdown all in the same match when a team co-captained by D-Generation X meets a team co-captained by Edge & Randy Orton in a 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match.

The two teams of co-captains have been at each other’s throats for weeks, with Edge & Orton trying to end DX’s reign of terror on RAW. They were successful at Cyber Sunday thanks to special referee Eric Bischoff, but Shawn Michaels & Triple H responded by costing them the World Tag Team Championship the next night on RAW. Now, at Survivor Series, the two teams will add three partners and do battle in a Classic Survivor Series Match.

Both quintets will be made up of Superstars from all three brands. Along with HBK and The Game, Team DX will be made up of RAW’s Jeff Hardy, SmackDown’s Matt Hardy and ECW Extremist CM Punk; meanwhile, Edge & Orton’s squad will be rounded out by Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms and ECW’s Mike Knox.

Jeff and Nitro, Matt and Helms and Punk and Knox all have their own rivalries brewing as well. Jeff and Nitro have traded the Intercontinental Championship in recent months, Matt and Helms have been battling over a personal grudge and Punk and Knox have been at odds seemingly due to the schoolgirl crush Knox’s girlfriend Kelly has on Punk.

All four of these rivalries will be combined into one volatile match at Survivor Series; but while hostility is high, this match will also see the ultimate reunion of the brothers Hardy. Together, Matt and Jeff have won the World Tag Team Championship on five occasions, but Survivor Series will see them teaming together for the first time since August 2002.

Who will survive when these 10 Superstars and Extremists collide in the same ring at Survivor Series?

Check back tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET for the announcement of another Survivor Series match.

Wow, that was unexpected.

Pepsi Man 11-07-2006 02:56 PM

How random.

weather vane 11-07-2006 03:17 PM

I like it. This is how it was back in the day. This is what I was hoping for. They need to make at least 2 more of these matches and the rest whatever else.

Londoner 11-07-2006 03:22 PM

^ Agreed, DX/Hardys teaming up with CM Punk should be interesting.

D Mac 11-07-2006 03:26 PM

So I guess K Fed vs Cena will be added? This should be a crapfest.

Thats not happening till New Year's Day from what I took last night on Raw? My Guess Cena's team vs Umaga's Team deal

Yeah I do to, they take faces from different fueds and team them up against the heels. Traditional SS match. I like it.

Caged Heat18 11-07-2006 03:43 PM

I really like this match. Matt Hardy actually gets to be in a high profile match, along with Gregory Helms, and it's CM Punk's WWE ppv debut. Plus, I like how everyone has issues with someone on the other team. Very cool.

Crippla 11-07-2006 03:54 PM

Yeah, like I said, true traditional SS match like back in the day.

M-A-G 11-07-2006 04:07 PM

Why is ECW on this show again?

Jordan 11-07-2006 04:20 PM

I am really happy about this announcement. Weird though seeing as Triple H didn't "see anything" in CM Punk. Great that they are putting lower card workers who can really work in a high scale match.

M-A-G 11-07-2006 04:21 PM

If it makes you feel any better I don't see anything in CM Punk either. But funny how HHH says that about a lot of guys.

Skippord 11-07-2006 04:21 PM

Thats odd

Corndad 11-07-2006 07:42 PM

Just thought of something... They teamed Jeff Hardy (known for his drug addictions and whatnot) with CM Punk, whos gimmick is the Straight Edged Life. Kinda funny if you think about it I suppose.

Dorkchop 11-07-2006 07:49 PM

That's actually a fucking awesome match to have. Hopefully no one will be burried in this match.

Boondock Saint 11-07-2006 07:55 PM

The Hardyz and Punk will prolly be eliminated within minutes and DX will beat all 5 guys.

weather vane 11-07-2006 08:24 PM

Few other good matches would be ...

Undertaker and Kane along with Sabu, London and Kendrick vs

Kennedy and Umaga along with Thorn, Stevens and Burke

also

RVD and Sandman along with Crazy, and Cryme Tyme vs

Big Show and Test along with Masters, and Cade/Murdoch

ALSO

Batista and Benoit along with Carlito, and Flair/Piper

Booker and Chavo along with Benjamin, and The Spirit Squad

ya know something along those lines

the whole show should be just these matches, except one championship match

Caged Heat18 11-07-2006 08:38 PM

I wish it would only be classic survivor series matches. With so many ppv's make this event different and unique again.

Destor 11-07-2006 08:41 PM

Corndad: make this the official thread for the WWE.COM released matches. That way we don't have to have a new thread every day. Maybe we could get a sticky as well.

I would like as well, but as stated earlier in this thread, Benoits *SPOILER* already got a match with Chavo

Destor 11-07-2006 08:42 PM

DX, The Hardy Boys, and CM Punk. Hot team.

I see potential in Punk, but nothing can match up to the hype the IWC feeds him.

However, I think any of a dozen or more guys could do the same if they were being groomed by WWE, so he's really nothing special.

I like the match, but I expected more high profile folks for some reason. This feels more like a main event match as a vehicle to a PPV than it does a PPV match.

I got a hard on when I saw the line up for this match.

Splaya 11-07-2006 11:09 PM

You get DX, you get CM punk but you also get Hardy Boys to reteam together for the first time in year. The big thing is will they all come out to their own music, or do you have those 3 join up as a DX reunion for the night.

Oh, I just got an idea. Maybe because Bischoff has been so involved lately, you have him define Team Orton/Edge as Team NWO for the night. Then you've got DX vs NWO

St. Jimmy 11-07-2006 11:11 PM

LOL @ Trips and Punk in the same ring.

Mr. Aristocrat 11-07-2006 11:30 PM

Wow, I have been a fan of pro wrestling a long long time, and I thought I had seen everything, and yet never once in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would see Triple H, Shawn Michaels, a reunited Hardy Boyz and CM Freakin Punk be in one match...never mind teaming up against 5 men who actually have a purpose in being in the match. It's almost like...WWE...somehow...used logic. I tell you, this is a very weird day indeed.

weather vane 11-07-2006 11:36 PM

yeah for one match

if they were smart they would do this PPV right

we need more survivor series matches

Dorkchop 11-08-2006 12:13 AM

It would be awesome if the WWE made either Orton, HHH, HBK, or Edge get eliminated before all the other guys do. It can end up as HHH and Edge at the end, I don't care, I just want to see some unpredictibility.

Splaya 11-08-2006 12:21 AM

I could see HBK getting eliminated early. I still thought though that he was going to be out due to knee surgery. Anyone know whats going on with that?

Mr. Nerfect 11-08-2006 01:06 AM

I'm happy about this match.

Splaya 11-08-2006 01:14 AM

Wait, that's it. No explanation, no storyline progress.

WHAT THE FUCK ALIENOID.

Jeritron 11-08-2006 01:15 AM

Happy as long as it doesnt turn into DX against the world and results in burying on both sides for a DX vs Edge/Orton Rematch. I'd like maybe HHH and Edge to make it to the final four, with unexpecteds. Say...HHH and Punk (haha) vs Edge and Nitro.
I think you could subtlely give Punk a decent rub from being crowd favored along with HHH on a big time WWE ppv, as much as I hate to feed HHHs ego with such a claim I think its true.
Edge is the better of the 2 leaders of that team to go to the end, and I think it would be right to have Nitro and Helms stick around. Leaving HHH and Punk with 3 on 2 odds, overcoming the odds. I'd have Knox come back out and take Punk out of it to fuel that fued to a conclusion match. And then I'd have Edge go over HHH by cheating, but nonetheless winning.

Jeritron 11-08-2006 01:18 AM

Keep in mind HHH can't win this match in any way shape or form haha. Isn't he yet to win at a Survivor Series? Hes to Survivor Series as Undertaker is to Wrestlemania, only the complete opposite. As far as I can remember hes never won at SS, correct me if thats changed.

Destor 11-08-2006 01:44 AM

He is to Survivor Series as The Big Show is to Wrestle Mania.

Punk seems to have an "it" factor to him though. Something that makes you want to watch him, regardless of the fact that he's just beating jobbers. Hard to describe, but certain people have the "it." Take Umaga for example: same type of push (if not more so), but it's taken the WWE cramming him down our throats for us to get used to him.

I really like this match. If it were the main event that'd be even better, but I have a feeling it won't be. We all know it's going to boil down to DX vs. Edge/Orton though, which kind of hurts it, but just seeing the Hardys back together is going to be worth it.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-08-2006 02:09 AM

Wow, that DX team is badass. Personally though, I would take Knox off the other team. I think Test would be a better pick... Although they aren't feuding. Meh.

Destor 11-08-2006 02:13 AM

Knox is a very good brawler. I don't no why everyone is so down on him. Might have something to do with most people not liking that style, but I dunno. I am fond of Knox.

Jeritron 11-08-2006 02:18 AM

The match really suprised me, which is a good thing. I was predicting a 4 on 4 with DX Flair/Piper vs Edge/Orton/Bischoff/_____ or something along those lines. Hopefully they keep booking these and not too many singles matches. I think Taker/Kennedy, Benoit/Chavo, and one world title match is enough.
