Rowdy Piper has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer

Quote:

WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper announced via his official website that he's been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and will begin treatment to battle the disease immediately.

The cancer was found after Piper was hospitalized for the removal of a benign tumor in his back that had been causing Piper tremendous pain. As we noted earlier today, there had been great relief when the tumor was ruled benign, but additional tests found the lymphoma.

Piper, on his official website, commented, "It seems like I have been fighting someone, something, someplace, in some manner, my whole life. But this fight, is one I am gonna win!"

Piper, considered to be one of the top heels of the 1980s and one of the all time greatest talkers in the history of the business, had a DVD devoted to his life and career released earlier this month by World Wrestling Entertainment titled, "Born to Controversy."

Although he recently had a short WWE Tag Team championship run with Ric Flair, Piper had been more focused on his acting career of late, booking several independent films and a Trvial Pursuit board game commercial while developing a one man show that would look at the more comical aspects of his career.

Everyone at PWInsider.com sends Piper and his family the best as he battles Lymphoma.

Probably just found out themselves, because Piper just found out.

They knew something was wrong, hence why Piper was removed from the storylines.

Joey Slugs 11-27-2006 07:32 PM

Shit man. I really do hope he wins this fight.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 11-27-2006 07:43 PM

Let's hope he invites the cancer onto Piper's Pit and cracks it over the head with a radiation-laced coconut. :y:

Optimus Bone 69 11-27-2006 07:47 PM

The Naitch 11-27-2006 08:52 PM

prayers go out to Piper

KayfabeMan 11-27-2006 09:11 PM

Read about this earlier, and still can't believe it.

Piper always has been one of my top favorite guys, and I wish him and his family all the best with this. Cancer is, unfortunately, a big thing with my family and friends - so I know what it is like to battle with it. He's surely a fighter though, and that definitely helps in times like these. All the best to him and his family, and we'll all be praying for them.

Avenger 11-27-2006 09:14 PM

This is awful.

Don't really have words, something like this always stops me in my steps.

Piper is a real man and a fighter. He'll beat this.

El Fangel 11-27-2006 09:29 PM

:O wow, wasn't expecting this, hope he does well, that guy was entertaining as hell.

Chuck Jones 11-27-2006 09:59 PM

This sucks. Hope he beats the disease.

Blue Demon 11-27-2006 10:09 PM

I hope he's going to be ok :(

Azriel 11-27-2006 10:30 PM

Jeez I hope he beats it. Cancer sucks. It's the ultimate heel

Azriel 11-27-2006 10:35 PM

Londoner 11-27-2006 10:39 PM

Damn, don't know what to say other than it shows you how easy it is to get. Hope he beats it though, good luck to him.

Zen v.W.o. 11-27-2006 10:47 PM

Get well Roddy, I wish him the best.

Piper is right up there for me, he's been my fave since I started to watch.

FourFifty 11-27-2006 11:23 PM

Oh come on, He's the Hot Rod, he'll beat this thing like he should have beaten Hogan at the first wrestlemania.

Kane Knight 11-27-2006 11:45 PM

Come on, man. This isn't how you're supposed to go out.

Liver poisoning, maybe. But lymphoma?

ClockShot 11-27-2006 11:54 PM

God damn this sucks.

Prayers go out to him. :'(

Too true :'(

Shadow 11-28-2006 02:10 AM

Damn....hopefully they caught it early enough.

Splaya 11-28-2006 03:25 AM

You know, I've never been a huge fan of Piper. I've been a fan, just not a pop like crazy fan. But when he came back for this short stint with Flair, I loved it. It was kind of ironic because after DX won tonight with Flair on Raw, HHH and HBK both went up to Flair and told them they loved him and Flar mouthed it back and was near tears. You had to think this is what they were talking about :(

I don't want to admit that I laughed at that.

Corkscrewed 11-28-2006 09:19 AM

I second Jabba's statement. Lymphoma is a bitch. I pray he can kick this one's ass and then some.

Ben Rodrigues 11-28-2006 09:32 AM

He'll be fine. Technology today is amazing - he'll be back this time next year hosting another classic Piper's Pit.

I don't want to admit I made that joke.

The Ravishing One 11-28-2006 05:01 PM

This sucks.

parkmania 11-28-2006 10:32 PM

Hey, if Mario Lemieux can beat Hodgkin's then so can Hot Rod.

ddpBANG 11-29-2006 01:22 AM

I really hope it is Hodgkin's lymphoma. WWE.com says it is, but it's a little hard to believe their news lately.

The Naitch 11-29-2006 03:06 AM

weird how I found this out, not from here but from the news ticker on my local news station

I was seeing which schools would be closed for the day (snow) and BAM out of nowhere they say that Piper has cancer

ddpBANG 12-04-2006 10:42 PM

Bump

An Early Christmas for Roddy and Thanks to the Fans!

Roddy has Wrestling and the Fans to thank for an early Christmas present this year. After returning to the WWE and the Fans voting him in on Cyber Sunday to wrestle, Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper became the World Tag Team Champions. Roddy then continued on tour with the WWE in the UK. While there he suffered a back injury and had to leave the tour early, resulting in emergency back surgery upon arrival home in Portland, Oregon.

While performing the surgery, the surgeon took a biospy of a suspicious lymphnode. While Roddy has been recovering from the surgery on his back he has been waiting and undergoing further tests regarding the biopsy. Initial findings were that he has lymphoma cancer, (non-hodgkins).

Today he got final results from all the tests and knows that he has low grade lymphoma cancer in one maybe two marble size areas near each other, behind his stomache. Due to the back surgery and the Doctor noticing the cancer it has been caught at an early stage. Roddy will undergo 4 weeks of radiation treatment.
Roddy has always stated that his career in wrestling and his success has been given to him by the FANS. Now again with this sequence of events, going back to the WWE, The FANS voting him to wrestle, the injury to his back, resulting in the Doctor finding his cancer early. Has again strengthened his feelings that Wrestling and the Fans have had a positive outcome in his success not only in his career but in his life!

The One 12-04-2006 10:45 PM

I hope his recovery will be quick and complete.

Shadow 12-05-2006 05:28 PM

Well thank the gods he's going to be fine.
