You know the wrestling industry sucks at the moment when....

I find myself 1000 times more entertained by old wrestling footage on YouTube (mainly Nitro/nWo stuff and Attitude Era) than anything both WWE or TNA is producing.

TNA should really study the old Nitro and nWo footage and look at how WCW perfected wrestling back then. Really, the peak of Nitro had everything a wrestling program should have....good wrestling, excellent storyline, great balance, etc. Every Nitro felt like a grand event.

If they would have perfected it, then they wouldn't have gone out of business, now would they? Nitro PEAKED at 6.0 in the ratings on August 31, 1998 and from there it was downhill. Raw peaked at 7.4 on May 1, 2000. Nitro's best rating ever was during GOLDBERG's reign as WCW champion. Not to mention the fact that Nitro jumped the shark when the infamous "try to spoil RAW by poking fun of Mick Foley winning the WWF title" plan backfired followed by the "Fingerpoke of Doom".

...Wow. You are the first person to ever think this. Amazing. I'm glad you made a thread on this stunning realisation.

You can have the shittiest wrestlers in the world (Hogan, Goldberg, Nash, etc) and the worst match combinations in the world, if you can put up top-notch, entertaining storylines you'll succeed in the wrestling business.

Thanks man! I'm glad to have brought up this realization to everyone here. :)

You know, nostalgia has a big bit to do with it. I'm not saying that the current wrestling scene is good, but saying that you'd rather watch what is considered the heigh of professional wrestling than the current product? Well fuuuuuck.

Kane Knight 02-18-2007 05:38 PM

And the greatest hits, no less?

Russenmafia 02-18-2007 06:24 PM

Could the WWE go back to the Attitude Era if they really wanted to or does Vince prefer the shitfest that is his product nowadays. They changed their product to "attitude" to beat WCW. Since they bought them out, its back to the stale product of the early 90's. The only way we can see anything close to the Attitude Era again is if the WWE gets some serious competition.

Xero 02-18-2007 06:27 PM

Vince prefers the current style clearly. It's very reminiscent of his 80's style of booking.

Vince was pushed into the Attitude era, and he'll have to be pushed into another change, whether it's dwindling ratings (I'm talking 1.5s here) or competition.

Kane Knight 02-18-2007 07:06 PM

You know, if the ratings rop to 1.5, even TNA will be competition. ;)

Djscorpion 02-18-2007 07:13 PM

we all really hate vince for making this shitfest

You know a basketball game sucks when you watch the best of Michael Jordan.

Or as I call it, 8 years of the Bulls' regular season.

Watched an old WCW match on YouTube the other day, only an undercard match. Yung Dragons vs Air Raid (AJ Stlyes and Air Paris).

Not a match I have any nostalga for, but it was so much better than shit like the Cruiserweight battle royal last night

I honestly think just ending the brand split would be a huge improvement.

Also, bring back lesnar.
