Money in the Bank match confirmed for Wrestlemania 23...

On WWE.com its reported that Monday night on Raw, former MITB winners Edge and RVD will face off to kick off the first round of MITB qualifying matches for Wrestlemania 23.

So it is going to take place again this year. Figured I'd report it. Will one of these 2 end up being in it do you think, or is it just to kick off the tournament and both will do other things?
Who do you think will compete? Who do you want to win? Do you think it will be interpromotional? Does anybody care? Is anybody listening to me?

Blitz 02-19-2007 01:33 AM

Punk had better be in it.

Corkscrewed 02-19-2007 01:43 AM

Wow, so that makes one match that I'm excited about for WM23.

One.

weather vane 02-19-2007 01:52 AM

told you this would happen

Mr. Nerfect 02-19-2007 02:00 AM

RAW:
Jeff Hardy
Johnny Nitro

SmackDown!:
Chris Benoit
Matt Hardy

ECW:
Rob Van Dam
CM Punk

That's my prediction for it. To take the match, I'd bet my money on Chris Benoit. Have you noticed how strong the WWE have kept him? I get the feeling they're going to give him a Rocky-style run at the top again soon.

Funky Fly 02-19-2007 02:14 AM

I'd keep Jeff Hardy out, tbh. He's already got the IC title and should defend it instead.

I'd put Nitro in for sure and Kenny, since he's the only worthy candidate who isn't either in a tag team or in the doghouse (like Carlito). I think Edge going in twice is a waste, tho.

The One 02-19-2007 02:23 AM

I'd like to see...

RAW
Randy Orton
Edge

SmackDown
Chris Benoit
Mr. Kennedy

ECW
Rob Van Dam
CM Punk

Figure, have the most over guys on the brand who arn't in a brand Main Event do this. It would be like a proving grounds that they can put on ME matches.

The One 02-19-2007 02:23 AM

Let's go ahead and have Benoit win it and be the guy to take the title off Taker...or Batista. :shifty:

Funky Fly 02-19-2007 02:24 AM

I would not be opposed to such an idea. How old is Taker now? Gotta be near 50.

Jeritron 02-19-2007 02:25 AM

I'd love to see that swirve. I'd rather see Orton and Edge get a singles match and have someone like Benoit or Kennedy go over in the MITB (since I know they won't pull the swirve so..) .

But imagine Edge won the MITB again, and after Taker defeated Batista, Edge came out and shocked the world again

The One 02-19-2007 02:28 AM

Just realised that not both RVD and Edge can be in it...so take out RVD and put in Sabu. Not a lot of people are expecting him to be under contract after Mania this year. It could be given to Sabu as a one last chance to prove his worth to the company...we all know Vince will keep on anyone if he thinks they can make him money. Even if he isn't given the chance to stick around afterwards, it could be Sabu's big last match on a national stage. And what better place to let it all hang out than on WrestleMania. Hell the fucker has done crazy shit for 300 fans. Think about if he knew it might be his last chance to put on a match for an audiance that size, and to be at Mania...I'd suspect we could get either a total dud out of him or the match of his career.

Jeritron 02-19-2007 02:31 AM

Plus it'd serve as a great way to...
-put Edge over as a huge heel
-take Takers streak
-pad his own
-great way to move him over to Smackdown as their top heel, and leave Orton on Raw
-leave the fans with a shocker
-is a way to have takers streak snapped and give that rub without making him look weak

Holy Shit! It would be great and make boatloads of sense! Never gonna happen.

Corkscrewed 02-19-2007 02:46 AM

But then RAW would have two champs.

*cue alienoid*

Edge would then continue his feud with John Cena for six months as both people go on all three shows defending their belts, but ultimate it leads to Edge pinning Cena at Survivor Series to unify the belts and end the brand split between RAW and SD. ECW will have gone under by then, so they won't have to do anything, and Edge would then feud with Orton to continue their teased feud from the beginning of this year. Orton goes over Edge at the Royal Rumble, which is won by Val Venis, who then feuds with Orton until WM 24, where he defeats him to become the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion!!!

Jeritron 02-19-2007 02:52 AM

Nah, if he snapped Takers streak and took the World Title off of him, that'd put him on Smackdown.

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 02-19-2007 04:13 AM

If Edge is in the MITB, I totally think Jeritron's idea is the way to go. 'Course, I imagine he'll end up facing Orton one on one, and RVD will be in the match.

I'd like to see RVD and Sabu in the match, with Punk challenging Lashley for the title. Then Benoit and Kennedy for SD, and Kenny and Carlito (unless he's facing Flair, in which case Nitro).

If they do have Edge win, I'd have RVD challenge Lashley with Punk in the MITB, and Edge and Orton in for Raw's side.

Jeritron 02-19-2007 05:13 AM

The first round qualifying match doesn't neccesarily mean one of them automatically gets a spot. It just means they advance. I wouldn't count on either one of them participating in MITB. I think its just being used as a kickoff with an interpromotional match between two former winnners and champions.

Edge will most likely work a program with Orton, and RVD will probably be involved in some kind of Originals/New Breed 8man tag.

I'd look for Raw to offer a combination of Jeff, Nitro, Kenny, Masters, Carlito (if they don't fued him with Flair).
ECW better offer Punk, its the best place for him on the card. I don't know who the other will be since all their talent would be involved in that other match. But maybe they'll just send one wrestler as opposed to 3 from Raw or SD (ie Rumble)

On Smackdown, I see Kennedy starting a fued with Benoit for the US title, so they're out. If they don't put Rey back in a fued with Chavo I could see him being in it. Other options include Finlay, Mercury, Helms, but more interestingly I would like to see Matt in there with Jeff working together but on their own.

If Jeff is gonna be in it, I'd like him to job the IC title beforehand so we can get an IC title match too.

AdrianM 02-19-2007 06:37 AM

I'd say:

Shelton Benjamin (I mean, he is MR.MITB)
CM Punk
Marquis Cor-Von
Rey Mysterio
Chris Benoit
Kenny Dykstra

KingofOldSchool 02-19-2007 06:45 AM

Raw:

Carlito
Jeff Hardy

Smackdown:

King Booker
Ken Kennedy

ECW:

RVD
CM Punk

V 02-19-2007 08:20 AM

Chris Jericho :(

Xero 02-19-2007 08:26 AM

This is the time to jump on Kennedy. Build him up for the year and give him the title at SummerSlam.

FourFifty 02-19-2007 11:19 AM

MONEY IN THE BANK!!! SWEEEEET!!!!

St. Jimmy 02-19-2007 11:42 AM

Could care less, Briefcase winner is just gonna job to Cena anyhow.

JT 02-19-2007 11:52 AM

I doubt RVD is going to be in it as he is on his way of jobbing out of the company at this point, though Edge being stuck in this match and not a singles main event is crap too.

M-A-G 02-19-2007 01:40 PM

There. Everyone's got their match. Be happy now.

What I would like to see:

Raw:
Shelton
Jeff Hardy

Smackdown:
King Booker
Kennedy

ECW:
RVD
CM Punk

Indifferent Clox 02-19-2007 03:03 PM

they've had IC champs in the MITB match before at WM. I just used 3 abbreviatons in the same sentence.

My list for the match to make a good match:

Raw
Super Crazy (but realisitically Johnny Nitro)
Jeff Hardy

Smackdown
Kennedy
Benoit

ECW
Sabu
RVD

I'd have Benoit or Kennedy win since SD hasn't won it yet. RVD went to ECW, Edge went to U2, I mean Raw.

I would like to point out that everyone that has won the MitB match has won the title off of Cena.

St. Jimmy 02-19-2007 07:57 PM

NOTHING CAN BEAT SUPERCENA RAWRSNORT.

Jeritron 02-19-2007 08:01 PM

except for the past 2 briefcase winners

And i would like to point out that Cena has won the title back both times.

You'd bo onto something...if that were accurate. But history means nothing, it's all about how you perceive things. That's the TL way.

Legend Killer 02-19-2007 11:20 PM

For those who think Punk will not be in the MITB match you're just dumb, I'd like to see Kennedy take it, it will fit his gimmick......MIIIIISSSTTTTERRRRRR. MONEY IN THE BANK.....MONEY IN THE BANK:wtf: and my predictions are

RAW
EDGE & Randy Orton

SmackDown
Mr. Kennedy & Chris Benoit

ECW
Rob Van Dam & CM PUNK

Mr. Nerfect 02-19-2007 11:27 PM

Well now that Edge is in the match, they really need to put Randy Orton in it. Chris Benoit from SmackDown! seems logical, and MVP then has nothing to do. ECW can offer forth CM Punk, or something. I can see RAW maybe also having Kenny Dykstra in, so that gives us three RAW guys, two SmackDown! guys and an ECW guy. Kind of like the Royal Rumble ratio.

Edge should definitely go over and pin The Undertaker after he takes the belt off Batista. Edge as SmackDown!'s top heel is something I can see.

Legend Killer 02-19-2007 11:36 PM

Nah, CM Punk wins and when H gets back he wins the title and then we get to see the dream match....CM PUNK VS Triple H and the debut of the Pepsi Plunge in WWE.

See the problem with that is the first 2 should have been singles matches. The 3rd would be a great match too but has no build up. Theres plenty of other talent on the shows to put on a credible MITB match, whereas these guys could be in meaningful matches elsewhere on the card. With this, guys who had a place in MITB don't now. And if they did their matches will be less meaningful or built.

It SHOULD have been Jeff Hardy and Dykstra from Raw, CM Punk and RVD from ECW and Rey Mysterio and Matt from SD!
Jeff and Matt would draw in a ladder match, Rey and RVD are former world champions. And CM Punk and Dykstra fit right in. This wouldn't be as star studded as the first MITB, but would certainly surpass last years.

Then Edge and Orton could have had a grudge match, and Kennedy could go over Benoit for the US title.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see all that talent in a dream ladder match. It's just too much over talent and build up characters to throw away in one ladder match, when you could have over midcarders carry it with the help of 1 or 2 established main eventers.

McLegend 02-19-2007 11:40 PM

If it's a ladder match I'm pretty sure Jeff Hardy is going to be in it.

Edge
Jeff Hardy
Orton
Punk
Matt Hardy
Kennedy

I wouldn't be surprised if MVP were to replace Punk however
